Blog #10

I took a long time trying to decide what to do for my creative remix project. I am not a creative person. I am far from it, so I had a lot of difficulty just trying to figure out what I wanted to do. All I knew was that I wanted to do a project on how African American artists reclaimed country music, a genre that was once considered as “white music.” After listening to the music video played in class that had a timeline of the different songs in America, I came up with the idea to create a playlist of music. I decided to create my own timeline, with each song displaying how African Americans reclaimed country music. Each song was an example, a step, on African American country music and their progress to finally being accepted and destroying the illusion that country music is for white people, despite its roots and heavy influence from black music. I used the sources from my research paper, as well as doing more research myself, to create an extensive timeline for my playlist.
