While I was watching this documentary I was really glad they played a lot of the music we listened to in the album. I grew up around my aunts always playing the beatles at family BBQ’s so i’ve always liked their music to a degree. It really brought me back to listen to it all again and when i saw how much they smoked in their house i was thinking to myself  if we smoke as much in vapes than they did in cigarettes. Until watching this documentary i really didn’t know much about yoko and how she and john met but i did know that she was really demonised by the public and never really questioned it. While i do believe there may have been genuine conflict between members of the band because of yoko’s involvement in john’s life, i feel that john basically dropping a diss track on paul is more for publicity because it would drum up fresh exciting news about a band people love and offers more chances for reunion tours and talk show appearances afterwords. But all this publicity isn’t just about selling records, the Beatles were adamant about protesting the war in vietnam and wanted it to stop because they saw how wrong it was for us to be there. They also pointed out that no one truly knew why we were at war and for this reason it makes our soldiers sacrifice “senseless”. At least if someone died during WW2 they could say he died fighting to stop hitlers invasion, but in the case of vietnam if you asked them what they fought for they would give much different answers. I think that the whole reason the song Imagine was able to obtain its award is because of the groundwork the beatles played in terms of gathering people through their music to stand up against human rights violations and provide music that signifies a togetherness that allows for a controlled expression of the muted and unable.

  1. Something I did notice from the documentary was the constant smoking of cigarettes but I really did not think about how in today’s world cigarettes are replaced with vapes and different types of electronic cigarettes. Vapes and electronic cigarettes are super common nowadays so I rarely see people smoking cigarettes anymore. Although it really doesn’t relate back to John and Yoko it’s interesting to see how society’s habits have really changed/modernized. I do agree that John’s diss track was more for publicity. A lot of stuff done in the music and entertainment industry is done for publicity to keep people in the eyes of the public.
