Some of the challenges the author describes in this article is that she would have a hard time understanding her mom. The main challenge that she faces is that her relationship with her mother does not make any sense to her. But slowly as time has passed she has gotten to understand her mother piece by piece and thinks that mothers should be celebrated. Many times she connects pieces of music from the artist Noname to her relationship with her mom and this helps her understand it more. One example of this was with the song “Hold Me Up” and some of the lyrics that connected with her were “Daddy pays the bills, but mama holds me up / Daddy pays the bills, when that ain’t good enough.” These lyrics helped her understand because after hearing this she knows that her mother will be their for her whenever she needs help mentally or physically but sometimes she needs something more. She admits that her mother is proud of her and what she does or says no matter how crazy it might sound and her father paying the bills is seen in her eyes as putting time and dedication in to keeping everyone healthy and trying to put his family in the best possible place.

In my case there has not been many song that have helped me understand my parents more i think we get along well and there is not too much confusion. It has helped me understand my brothers in some cases when I was younger they would listen to certain songs or make me listen to something  and at the time I didn’t really get the music because I didn’t pay too much attention to the lyrics. But as I grew up and learned more about the world and experienced many scenarios myself.  I would go back and listen to the songs and I would understand the song more because maybe it talked about a breakup or a bad friend and when I was younger this wasn’t something that happened to me. This would then help me grow closer to them because I knew why they would listen to it was all about what they were going through at the time and after you experience something yourself and if a song takes about a similar case you connect with it more.
