The overall feelings of the poem leave a sadden form of regret. The narrator of the poem appears to be describing the passing of time as he fails to acquire any connection with women. The sadden mood adds emphasis to the central idea that is trying to be expressed. That central idea being that regret and wasting time is worse than rejection.
–“I have measured out my life with coffee spoons,” laments Prufrock. What do you think this line means?
It seems like Prufrock is well aware of the time that is passing by and that he doesn’t have much left of it. Also, the coffee spoons resemble some repetition, as if there was no excitement or enjoyment in his life, he just repeated the same thing time and time again over the years. very bored with himself and mainly regrets that he didn’t use wisely the time that has passed.
What is Prufrock’s relationship to time?
Prufrock’s relationship to time is that he is very aware of it. He seems to contradict himself though, he says that there will always be time for whatever he needs to do and seems to be putting something off. Although this is true, he also states how he is insecure because he is growing old and running out of time.
the line “I have measured out my life with coffee spoons” has significant meaning to it. this quote shows us an insight into how mundane and boring his life is. we tend to measure our life in events that were exciting or worth memorizing. due to the fact that he matures his life in coffee spoons it tells us that the only exciting or memorable thing that happens in his day to day life is getting a cup of coffee. it also shows that he is lonely as he does not have anyone to share a cup with.
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons,” laments Prufrock. What do you think this line means?
I think the like means that the value and significance of his life is as insignificant as coffee spoons. He’s able to outline his whole lifetime and compare it to something so small because of his inaction.
“I have measured out my life with coffee spoons,” laments Prufrock. What do you think this line means?
I think this line means, Prufrock’s life is as boring and as not important as small coffee spoons. Prufrock’s life is dull, and there is nothing interesting going on in his life.
I think the line “I have measured my life with coffee spoons” means that he has lived his life day by day, and that the most memorable part of his day is the coffee he drinks. He has a dull and meaningless life.
