Introduction

Hello! My name is Mohammed (Farhan) Tanvir (he/him). I was born and raised in New York City, but ethnically am from Bangladesh. I am currently a sophomore at Baruch college, but this is my first in-person class that I will take. I am majoring in accounting. I am very excited for this college experience as COVID-19 has deprived me of it. Although my senior year in high school and freshmen year in college did not go well, I am very positive about this college semester and forward. Although I would have to commute and wake up much earlier (not just five minutes before class), being able to socialize, learn much better (since in-person makes it easier for me to learn), and actually have a real experience of how college is, makes me know that I will enjoy my education at Baruch College. I hope that everyone else also is looking forward to their education at Baruch College!

A text, (or song in this case) that made a lasting impression on me is Katy Perry’s ‘The One That Got Away’. What stuck with me is that death is something that everyone will experience, and although it might hurt to see a loved one go through death, it is something we must deal with. This song has changed my perspective about the world around me by showing me that death can come out of nowhere and that it has no age limit. I connect with Katy Perry since my grandpa died back in 2016, and my uncle died recently just a month ago. I know how it feels to lose someone– it feels like a dream, but it is reality. It is like why today? Why not another year or so? But it doesn’t matter–it already happened, and there’s no going back. It’s just like what Katy Perry said (or sang) “Never planned that one day I’d be losing you…..In another life.”
