Isabel Allende, “And of Clay are We Created”
What do you think the significance of Allende’s title is? What does it mean to be made of clay?
The clay could tell the story of how Rolf got created from his history and set free. It could have been a biblical reference when God generated humanity from soil. It could also represent how the media formed us to be clay-like. It causes us to think in particular ways, and because clay is dirt, dirt is the deception or exaggerations that the media is trying to show. It is sometimes more vital to cover the story than help Azucena.

Mary Wollstonecraft, a vindication of women’s rights
Do you think women are still raised to be “nice”? Why or why not?
In the work of Mary Wollstonecraft, you can see how women observe that women should supposedly be shown only to “make them submissive” to please men, live to please, however this has changed over the years because Before we could see how women were housewives, in the house the decisions that were made were beneath the man but now women if they have to live alone without a man by their side they do it or if they have to work equally or more than He does it too, over the years women have become more independent with more equality. It does not mean that there have stopped being women who are housewives, no less than before.

Toni Morrison, “Recitatif” Merichel
Is the story’s perspective on race relations ultimately pessimistic or optimistic? Why?
I understood from the story was that it talks about the ways in which relationships can be optimistic as well as pessimistic with the racial form. It shows the lives of Roberta and Twyla from a racial perspective, telling how they both treated each other and how they thought differently from each other but at the same time shared family themes and certain similar conditions. As at the beginning of the story they did not get along very well but little by little they began to form a friendship and in a certain way support each other both inside the asylum and when they leave and start a family.
Merichel, Modernism in Visual Art Assignment
Claude Monet (Merichel Almonte)
Claude Monet, Monet’s work is famous for its loose brushwork, vibrant color palette, and emphasis on natural light and atmosphere. The work I selected is “Agapanthus”, a series of paintings that Monet created between 1914 and 1926. I chose it because since I saw it it gave me a feeling of peace, nature. I am a very lover of flowers because they make me feel calm. When someone gives me flowers it makes me feel loved, happy and even lifts their spirits. I chose it because of the colors and also because of the shape of the leaves. It transports me to my country of the Dominican Republic because we have many similar plants. It reminds me of the countryside when I went to visit my grandmother who played outdoors with my cousins. It was a very beautiful part of my childhood that I value a lot and makes me feel happy since here in this country I cannot experience any of that because of the system, because of the lack of time here we do not have that type of nature.
Additionally, what attracted me to this piece was the beautiful interplay of color and light, and the way Monet was able to capture the essence of the scene without resorting to detailed realism. The painting feels alive and dynamic, as if you are viewing the garden in a specific, fleeting moment. This ability to evoke a sense of life and movement is a testament to Monet’s skill and the power of the Impressionist style.
This series is part of her broader exploration of his water garden in Giverny, France, which includes her famous Water Lilies series. Agapanthus paintings focus on clusters of these lily-like flowers, often with the water garden in the background. “Agapanthus” reflects the aesthetic preferences associated with modernism in several ways. Modernism was a reaction against traditional art forms and the emphasis was on new ways of seeing and describing the world. Monet’s work embodies this through his innovative use of color and light to capture fleeting impressions of the natural world. His loose brushwork and his emphasis on the effects of light and atmosphere over detail or realism are distinctive characteristics of this movement.

Tayeb Salih, “The Doum Tree of Wad Hamid”
The narrator tells us that “every new generation finds the doum tree as though it had been born at the time of their birth and would grow up with them.” What do you make of this?
I believe that the tree means a lot to the community because it represents values for them, the children who are born present the tree with special powers, because of this they grow a lot making connections with the tree. It represented strength and power. The doum tree was already there when people were born, the village may change but the tree remains the same that is why it presents so much because it is something essential.

Kafka, “The Metamorphosis”
Actually I didn’t understand this story much because it is very strange, I mean I don’t know how an author can talk about metamorphosis with a cockroach, I have read stories about metamorphosis before but nothing like this one but from the little I understood about his family and the story It is impossible to have a normal life like before when you were a human and your family is not very well off financially, so now everyone has to work. This metamorphosis leads him to be lost because he is trapped with himself in a body that does not belong to him, he can no longer speak or express himself as before. His family is now afraid of him, the first time they saw him they screamed. This event leads his family to face certain fears.
Lu Xun, “In the Wineshop”
The story of his brother Weifu’s reburial shows the filial that comes from China if. I’m not wrong, I heard about that in a marketing class where filial piety is how important it is to have respect for the elderly, how you should take care of them, respect your career and experiences in life, how their wishes are important as society. He must take care of them because they are part of us. This story tells how Weifu’s mother asks him to bury his little brother again. Even so, he buries another person to be able to fulfill his mother, as he still leads a life that is not very nice because he has no meaning to live it, but fulfilling his mother he feels as if it already fulfills him and fulfills the values of society.
T.S. Eliot, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
I think it’s a story where you can see how he is someone who lives in isolation, depression and disability. I learned a lot from this because it shows you how you yourself are the one who can destroy your own future, like the power you give to your mind and let the things that you really want to fight to have in life not come to you in time. It may be that when you want to do it it will be too late. He is sad, showing a feeling of emptiness, that no matter how many material things you may have at the end of the day, there are others that have more value and that are often not paid for with money. He struggled with his internal superego, that part of you that can sometimes keep you grounded and at the same time can limit you from things that are worth doing or creating experiences, like in this case he left it until later to get closer. For women he left everything for another day. He was already at a point where he was rehearsing what he was going to say for when the time came to talk to a girl but he didn’t let go of that fear or shyness of doing it. In the end you can see how time passed and the physical appearances changed. It became late because time took its toll. He taught me to do what I want to do when I want to do it and not to think about society or fear because today I am young but I may not be young tomorrow.

Rabindranath Tagore, “Punishment” what the tittle means ?
What I could understand from what I read and analyzed in the book was that Rabindranath Tagore’s “punishment” comes from India, which means that the man has a lot to do with the woman, he has a lot of rights over her and her decisions. For example, the title says “punishment”, this refers to how women are oppressed by men, as from the moment a woman marries, according to society, the woman belongs to the woman in every sense of the word, something that is not true, without However, women who are mistreated by men punish them by speaking lies.
It refers to how they punished someone based on what the witnesses or accused could say about that person, only that was the only evidence and based on that they determined whether it was true or a lie, they did not look for more evidence. The police and the government did not have investigative methods to discover the truth and many times when you speak a lie it is more credible than the truth because the truth hurts or hurts and because of that people refuse to believe it.

“The Death of Ivan Llyich”
The quote is “Ivan Llyich’s life had been most simple and most ordinary and therefore most terrible.” page 742.
I think that this quote means that Ivan lived a life simple just like everyone else, he did not create experiences, with the same daily routine without leaving the monotonous because he had a good job but he had it for meet the requirements of a society to cover family expenses. He lived to impress others that others were comfortable but he forgot about himself, but at the same time he was someone who only wanted to have a pleasant life but he sought that pleasure at work and in his social life but when he When it came to his wife and children, he saw it in a different way. He had a successful life professionally and in terms of the standards that a man must meet according to society, but he felt empty.
