Welcome to English 2850

If you are reading this post, it means that you have found your way to our class blog, so welcome!!! We will be using this site in a variety of ways over the course of the semester, so please bookmark it and get in the habit of checking it regularly. You can find your syllabus, general information about resources that might be of interest to you, and links to some of our readings at the top of this page.

Our first meeting will take place on Monday, August 28th at 2:55pm in room 4-218 in the Newman Vertical Campus.

*****Acquiring the books for the course should be at the top of your “To Do” List. The required textbook for our course is The Norton Anthology of World Literature, Martin Puchner, Ed.,  Third Edition,  Volumes D, E, F.   These three volumes are sold together as a package.  It is crucial that you buy or rent the Third Edition – which is not the most recent one available.  It is much cheaper than the fourth edition, available both new and used,  and contains the readings that you will need for our course.  Please get the books as soon as possible.  You will have reading assignments in the Norton Anthology every week, and you will need to have the text with you in class.

*****Your first assignment is simple.  Create a post on the blog in which you introduce yourself to the class.  It’s up to you what you choose to share in this post, but your introduction should be approximately 350-500 words.  Together with this brief introduction, please take a minute to upload a photograph of yourself to your blogs@baruch account.  This way, your face will replace the default bearcat avatar!

Introductions should be posted by Friday, September 1st!

I am looking forward to meeting you and to getting to know you over the course of the semester. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to address before the start of the semester, please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected].

  1. TONY ZHENG says:

Hello everyone, my name is Tony Zheng and I’m a sophomore at Baruch and majoring in Accounting. I’m from New York and currently living in the Upper West Side. I have always love problem solving because I get to challenge myself and thinking outside the box. I love playing games, working out, basketball, skateboarding, hanging out with friends, and listening to music. Whenever I have time, I would always love to play basketball with friends because it helps me get my mind off things especially when I’m stressed or feeling down. As for skateboarding, I got inspired from a friend of mine. It was hard at the beginning, but many of my friends help me along the way. It took me a while to get used to it and learn some tricks I have been attempting for months. Now, I’ve realized how fun it is just being able to skate with friends and going to the skatepark. Every time I land a new trick, it would be the best feeling ever. It taught me a lot of things like perseverance and improving my confidence.
I like listening to different type of music like rap, K-pop, and pop music. Some of my favorite artists include The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, and New Jeans. I always love listening to them because they make me feel happy. It motivates me to stay focus on what I’m doing especially when I’m studying and working out. I also try to listen to discover new artist and get different recommendations.

I would describe myself as someone who is always trying to learn new things and improving who I am as a person. I also used to procrastinate a lot but I have been working on managing my time efficiently. It has improved a lot ever since my first year of college. Even though, I didn’t really do as good as I thought I would first semester, I promised myself I’ll do better going forward. Lastly, I love meeting new people and getting to know them. I hope to make more friends during my time at Baruch and create great memories. Hope to have a great semester with you all.
