Modernism Assignment- Head of a Woman by Picasso
HEAD OF A WOMAN
The work I have decided to critique is the “head of a woman” by Pablo Picasso. Pablo Picasso was born in the 1880s to a family with creative roots. He was among the most powerful craftsmen that embraced cubism. Picasso is seen to be unique amongst the most inventive craftsmen of the twentieth century, who played a noteworthy effect affecting youthful specialists. Picasso is additionally outstanding for helping to establish the time of the cubist development, alongside the creation of a model which was built, the co-innovation of composition and the various measure of styles of which he created by investigating more remote than different craftsmen. The cubist development was a kind of fundamental way to deal with the portrayal of shape and space.
Picasso’s sculpture “Head of a Woman” is a fascinating piece of art. While seeing this model it is changed each time you move your own head, stroll around it, and curve nearer. According to me it simply has a method for an evolving shape. While taking a glance at it, it first appeared to me as a man or some sort of animal. Taking a gander at the name, one would acknowledge what the model is. The subject of this figure is Fernande Olivier. She had functioned as a craftsman’s model in Montmartre and was a yearning painter. The piece has a considerable measure of harsh and sharp trims; however, the surface was exceptionally smooth. It is interesting how Picasso appears to see underneath the skin. He uncovers the ligaments in Fernande’s neck. We also see the broke surface of Fernande’s face, her hair an arrangement of crevasses and upland edges. Picasso talked about being gotten by Fernande’s magnificence and started a long association with Fernande Olivier; however by 1909, when he made this head the strain in their relationship was appearing. By 1912, the relationship had finished.
It is viewed as the primary cubist figure. Cubism was a craftsmanship development that altered European painting and model in the mid-twentieth century. The possibility of cubism is that as opposed to survey subjects from a solitary settled point, the craftsman splits them up into a few unique perspectives/appearances of the subject so they can be seen at the same time. The originality and the perfection of the sculpture are fantastic and one of a kind. This particularly drew my attention as it is one true depiction of art in its best state. The general appearance of the sculpture seems as though it was recently created even though it is decades old, thus showing us clearly how art is never forgotten.
The question that I have about the work is: Why does Picasso outline the head of Fernande to have highlights of a male? Why does Picasso base his form to the lady Fernande?

“The Metamorphosis”- Group Project
Based on the text by Kafka, Gregor was the main provider for the household and thus they all depended on him. When he changed into an insect they took care of him and grew poorer as they did not have another provider. At that state, he was pretty much confined to that room. This text can be can be related to a situation I happened to witness within the community I come from. There was a man who was the main provider in his family, meaning everybody was dependent on him. However, one day he suffered a stroke which left him in a vegetative state, unable to do much on his own, just as Gregor dependent on his family to care for him. This meant he slept in his bed or sat in a chair every other day and thus could not care for the family but rather the family cared for him. This change put a lot of strain in the family and thus they grew poorer.
In the story, Gregor could no longer eat the meals that he liked as he found them distasteful, this is due to the new condition he is in. this can be related to the man’s case where he could no longer consume his meals as he regularly had. His condition made it harder to move his jaws and thus he was forced to adjust to a new diet.
Gregor eventually became a burden to the family and it was seen in how his sister was not keen on bringing him food and cleaning up his room. They also hired a charwoman who cleaned the loungers and Gregor’s room. Eventually, Gregor died and this was seen to be a relief to the family as it gave the sister a chance to grow stronger and marry, and it also enabled the family to move into a better apartment. This related to the man’s end as he was seen as a burden by his family as they felt his caring took a lot of time, money and effort. They hired a caregiver to care for him. The attention they took in caring for him highly reduced and thus the man’s condition worsened, and just like Gregor, his death came as a relief to his family members.

Response to Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man
According to Pope, what place do human beings have in the universe in relation to other creatures?
Pope wrote this Poem to indicate the relationship between humanity and God. He acknowledges that human beings are not special but just a part of the large system that God have created. He also states that all God’s creation is significant since taking out one piece would ruin the entire system. However, he believes that humans are below God, spirits and angles but are above plants, animals and inanimate objects.

Response to Akinari’s “Bewitched”
Why do you think Toyo-o continues to be involved with Manago even after he suspects that she is a demon of some sort?
Toyo-o Continues to be involved with Manago despite suspecting that she is a demon of some sort for various reasons. The first reason is that Toyo-o appreciates the fact that Manago likes him and sees him as a great man. Many people see Toyo-o as a useless person, takes as an example his father who sees him as a family disappointment and his brother who gives up on him contributing to society. Due to the despiteful perception that society gives him, it is evident that Toyo-o is a man desperated for love and attention and he is ready to welcome any love and attention from anyone regardless of whether the person that love his is a demon.

Response to Tartuffe, Moliere
-Describe the character of Orgon. Why do you think he’s so vulnerable to Tartuffe?
Throughout the play Moliere, presents Argon a man who falls prey to misplaced adoration, someone who no longer cares about the welfare of his family to the extent of claiming that he would not feel any pain if his family members would die. His character also play that he is a funny person who is introduced to a religious lifestyle for the first time and end up being swayed by new ideas or people in the religion.
His character end up being let down because of his decision making and thinking at some point he contended with Valere marrying his daughter but later he changes his mind when is influenced by Tartuffe. This decision also show how Orgon has been lost and devoted to Tartuffe. I believe the reason that he is so vulnerable to him is because of his newly acquired believes and seeing what Tartuffe believe in as the righteous and devoted way of life. Another reason that makes Orgon vulnerable is his devotion to God and his incertitude regarding his acceptance in to the heaven which results to him not caring about his family and people around him. He insinuate that having Tartuffe by his side will secure his place to heave by following his command. The use of religious nature in impressing Organ is seen to have worked in deceiving him and letting Tartuffe get into the family.

Introduction
Hello Class
My name is Saul Guerrero. However, most people just call me “Saulitoh”. I was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to New York around eight years ago. Both, my father and mother were seeking for new opportunities in this country, “the American Dream”, a place where I can also pursue my dreams along with them. This is my first semester at Baruch College. I have an associate degree in Business Administration, and I am currently majoring in Finance. My interest in business came from my father. I have always had a passion for following the financial markets and current business news. As a child, I had the opportunity to observe my father works in the business world. He works for a small multimedia company where he specializes in sales and marketing. By growing up around the business atmosphere and going to work with my father on many occasions led me to develop a strong liking for the industry as a whole. I watched my father plan and execute various strategies, pricing schemes, promotions and distributions of ideas, and goods and services for his clients in and around New York City. My father influences are the reason why I want to be in the business world and become a Financial analyst.
I consider myself to have a great sense of humor. I like to be around people who always think positively. Whenever I have free time I like to travel and as one of my goals I want to travel the world to meet new people and experience all different types of cultures. I feel that there is so much more out there that I would love to discover.
As far this course I am very excited because I feel this class it is going to help me to improve both my public speaking and communication skills. I look forward to having a productive semester, making new friends, and improving my writing skills throughout this course. This whole blogging thing is new to me and I really like it. It could probably make me new friends and people that have common interests with me.
