Two of the main themes that the story Frankenstein addresses is loneliness and rejection. When Dr. Frankenstein abandons the creature he created, the creature was left in the world without anyone who cares about him. Additionally, due to the abnormality of the creature, there is no one who wants to be friends with him. The loneliness inside of the creature can be predicted using the quote in page 125, chapter 15 “I am an unfortunate and deserted creature; I look around and I have no relation or friend upon earth. These amiable people to whom I go have never seen me and know little of me. I am full of fears, for if I fail there, I am an outcast in the world forever”. From this quote, the creature feels like that he is rejected by everyone in the entire world, and if he leaves this world, there will not be anyone who will remember him and mourn for him because there is no one who loves him. The loneliness the creature experience can be seen as the pain the author, Marry Shelley, suffers when she loses her baby just before she writes this novel. In my opinion, I think that Shelley writes this story to express her sorrow of losing her baby. In a sense, I feel like Shelley thinks that she is rejected by the gods to have a baby as the creature is rejected by the gods to live normally. The creature is born with the ugly face, huge body, scars all over his body, and other abnormalities that makes him differs from other people. He is destined by Victor Frankenstein as by the gods to live this way, to hide from others, and live lonely until the end of his life. In this video that I picked, it mixes a sad music with the explanation of the rejections and loneliness the creature experience throughout the two-year experience of his life. It is interesting in that it touches on some of the main points of the story that I never thought of before; it expands my understanding of the theme of this story and leads me into thinking more about the proposal behind this story.
