Introduction
Hey everyone, my name is Daril Alanis, and I am currently majoring at Baruch in cybersecurity. I’m from queens and I usually like spending most of my time outdoors. A few things I enjoy are designing as in fashion construction, listening to music of almost any genre, iced coffee, and drawing art. Also new hobbies I picked up over the summer were skateboarding and bike riding. And a text that made a lasting impression on me was after listening to “Sleep on the floor” by The Lumineers. When I heard the line “Cause if we don’t leave this town, We might never make it out, I was not born to drown…” After listening to this song it impacted my way of thinking and living. I discovered a new feeling of dissatisfaction and realized I was unhappy being in NYC because I had felt as if I was trapped in my own borough. I always hated not being able to move or travel anywhere, not only was money the reason but during this time I was very young and believed I had enough time to work hard to be able to go visit new places, meet new people, and follow my ambitions and fears. But I was also able to recognize how I didn’t want to live by waiting and roaming around aimlessly. This definitely made me want to experience all the joys and tragedies that life brings. Now at any chance I get to meet people and places I go for it especially if it means I get to experience a new way of viewing everything. Furthermore the line brought about a new perspective to how I viewed my environment around me and only added more motivation for me to step out of my comfort zone and explore new areas, cities, and neighborhoods in other parts of the world.
