This image corresponds to “Bewitched” by Aknari is the gender roles in the Japanese culture. Women where not valued as men where in the Japanese culture. For the women characters in the story was the demon Mangago and the maid Maroya and Toyo-o’s wife Tomiko. They all have significant roles in the story but are not given names. An example of value of lack in women is when Toyo-o defeated Manago and Tomiko was released from the demon’s possession. Tomiko became ill and died and Toyo-o didn’t get ill but lived a long healthy life. The only crime that Tomiko had was her relationship with Toyo-o and was punished. Manago bewitched Toyo-o which wasn’t his fault. Manago encounter with Toyo-o he knew that she was supernatural. The second encounter he chooses to accept her excuses and be in a relationship with her. The characters in the story that will deserve a punishment is it should have been Toyo-0.
