Introduce Paper 1. What is rhetorical analysis? What kind of argument could we make in a paper of this kind?

Week 4

Wednesday, February 22 Discuss Medvedev Essays and Medvedev Poems.

Discuss audience and evidence.

Week 5

Monday, February 27 Discuss Lorde

Discuss essay structure, and the relationship between thesis and topic sentences.

Wednesday, March 1 Discuss Mandelstam.

Discuss paragraph structure: how to use a topic sentence to make a claim for the paragraph. How to introduce and analyzing textual evidence, and link it back to the paragraphs’ main claim.
