Read chapters 1-3 in George Lakoff and Mark Johnson’s Metaphors We Live By and write a one page response noting the main point of the piece and anything you found anything particularly interesting or surprising, disagree with, or found contradictory or problematic.

For February 6:

Read Claudia Rankine’s The Condition of Black Life is One of Mourning and comment on the prompt posted under the title “Conversation,” on this blog.

For February 8:

Read Wendell Berry’s “A Defense of the Family Farm” and comment on the prompt and/or on a peer’s post.

For February 15:

Read Barbara Ehrenreich’s Maid to Order and comment on the prompt and/or on a peer’s post.

For February 22:

Read Kiril Mevedev’s essay and poems and comment on the prompt and/or on a peer’s post.

For February 27

Read the Lorde essay and comment on the prompt and/or on a peer’s post. Choose which essay you will be analyzing for paper 2 and do a close reading, beginning to brainstorm for your paper.

For March 1:

Read the Mandelstam poems and comment on the prompt and/or on a peer’s post.

Also: bring in a claim for your paper 1, and a piece of evidence to support it from the text.
