Digital Story DRAFT

As someone who loves editing videos, I knew this would be time-consuming, but I also foolishly assumed that It would not be hard as I have some experience with editing. I was wrong. Firstly, it was extremely difficult to come up with a topic. It usually helps me if the task is more narrowed down than something personal. I think I finally understand the saying that too much freedom is scary (this is just like choosing a major). The videos I usually edit are already well put together, all I need to do is match the music with the video and chose the best scenes. Making a video from scratch is much harder. But the videos from StoryCenter were helpful. Unfortunately, I did not have enough pictures of the things I talked about. I wish I could have included them but since I could only take these pictures outside of NY I can’t really do anything about that. I found this project too personal and at times I was questioning myself and if it’s right to say what I’m saying. I think I made this video mainly for myself. It felt nice to talk about my feelings, I think it helps me cope with my fears.  I wanted to make a video about my grandmother who passed away a few months ago, but I decided that is still too painful. I think choosing the music was my favorite part. I had 4 tracks in mind all by Audiomachine (a bunch of composers that are amazing) from the album La Belle Epoque which is filled with a sense of nostalgia. I decided on The Shores of Forgiveness composed by Thomas-Adam Habuda.

I don’t really have any questions but I’m definitely open to any suggestions.

  1. Hi Olha!

I loved your project, it told a really personal story in a compelling way. The effects and music were perfect too, it felt like I was watching a mini movie. You chose pictures which really showed the connection you have with him which was really special. Overall great job! Not sure how much better you could make it since it’s already solid 🙂

  2. This was an amazing piece! I thought the beginning was very grappling. It was consistent, as you talked about your grandfather and included various pictures of him in the digital story. You have a great narrative voice, which makes it very easy to follow along. I absolutely loved the music in the background. The only minor improvement I would make is the music at the ending–it made your voice a little hard to hear, but it is just a quick edit! Otherwise, fantastic work on everything!
