This portrait of an onion in its beginning conception was replaced by an artichoke. The artichoke was chosen as a reflection on myself. The artichoke and onion both have layers much how I see myself. The shift from myself to the onion came when I realized that onions serve a purpose. To be prepared, sensual-ized, and then discarded. So in this video I decided the onion was portrayed through its function. The surreal part of the video is that nobody (at least anyone that I know) eats a sautéed onion by itself. It is usually used to enhance flavor so I wanted it to stand alone as not only the ingredient to a meal but the subject of my portrait. I had a great time filming this and believe even though it is ended with a piece of toilet paper swirling in a toilet, the onion was the star of this tribute.
