Artist Statement

For my first video project, I decided to come up with a concept that people tend to look past on a regular. The prompt given to us had me thinking about portraits of objects on a literal basis. I did not necessarily want to tell a story, but moreover I wanted to touch up on something that is looked past almost too easily. My overall concept entails, a very brief day in the life of a street photographer with the emphasis of an object (my backpack).  Given it is the day in the life of a photographer, what this project aims to portray is the role my backpack, as an object, plays in that specific day. The camera techniques used are all an emphasis on how we as humans can look past a very simple object that plays a vital role in our daily lives or routines. As you’ll see I’ve captured moments through different parts of my routine as a photographer, whether it is getting my things together or strolling through a park. All these specific moments give away what a street photographers routine is and how a backpack might play a role in that very routine.
