Blog #4 Part 1

“Since the early 1990s, pre-internet, I have been arguing that during the last century in and as cinema and other media technologies, capital, that is, leveraged exchange with productive labor for the purpose of profit, has undergone a metamorphosis—not just imperialism or globalization, but cinematicization.”

I think this concept is important due to the fact that they compare the growth of cinema and media technologies to other major periods of growth for the world such as imperialism and globalization. The big boom in the media industry is a force to be reckoned with because of how big of a part it is in our everyday lives. It can be feared and embraced at the same time because of how much the media can teach us, which can be used in both positive and negative ways. The world of video and cinema can continue to grow as we’ve seen the advancement in the technology used, even within the last ten years. This leaves me ready for the advancements that will be coming in the upcoming years.
