  1. While reading through the text, I noticed that the authors included the dangers of relying on artificial intelligence as ChatGPT was about “64 percent accurate in [reasoning] categories, performing the best in logical (i.e., deductive, inductive, abductive) reasoning and less effectively at nontextual semantic (i.e., temporal, spatial, mathematical) reasoning and commonsense reasoning” (The Challenges and Opportunities of AI-Assisted Writing). This shows the dangers of relying on ChatGPT to write for us, since ChatGPT has trouble with information that are not necessarily within the text and has trouble reading emotions in writings. Furthermore, I agree with the author’s point of how “generative AI can lead to less critical thinking and creative thinking, which are critical for quality content development” (The Challenges and Opportunities of AI-Assisted Writing). With more students using ChatGPT to complete assignments and summarize readings, students now have less opportunities to practice critical thinking, which is an extremely important skill to develop. The usage of AI is also related to future jobs, as it will kill certain jobs, but also make the research process more effective. Overall, I think the usage of ChatGPT should be monitored and limited, as misinformation can also spread easily when relying on generative AI.

  2. The reading on AI assisted writing talks about the acceptance of AI in the workplace/education, but not without its potential impactful risks on education or communication. It highlights the fact that although many instructors see a lot of pros like being more efficient or gaining more/better ideas, there remains the negative impact it can enforce on critical thinking and creativity. AI literacy as a concept can prepare people for an age where most things will be highly likely to be run by AI. An abundant amount of companies, especially those related to business have or have been trying to integrate AI as a tool in a way that boosts communication and upholding human employment. The views are split as there are people who view AI as abomination to the education system and there are those that view AI as a helpful tool that can be used to further student education.

  3. A personal experience that supports the author’s key idea occurred when I first learned about AI. Initially, I was skeptical about OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Influenced by movies and shows depicting AI as a threat to humanity, I believed it was dangerous and posed a risk to our well-being. I remember typing my first prompt into ChatGPT, “Write me an essay about why I should go to college,” and was surprised when ChatGPT responded with a full essay discussing the pros of attending college. I had expected it to direct me to a website with information regarding my topic, not to write an essay itself. As ChatGPT’s popularity grew, I noticed that many people became complacent with their assignments, often submitting work generated by AI. I also observed that many students stopped attending classes regularly, relying on AI to complete their homework, hurting this learning capability. While AI can indeed be intimidating, I believe it is more beneficial when used as a supplementary tool rather than as a replacement for personal effort.

  4. Upon reading the abstract section of the reading, we are given information about the general message the author wanted to convey to their audience, that being AI assisted writing can have both its challenges and opportunities. With the introduction of ChatGPT, it garnered popular opinion by rich elites like Bill Gates, who referred to the “transformational nature of ChatGPT as ‘every bit as important as the PC, as the internet’” (The Challenges and Opportunities of AI-Assisted Writing). This kind of label on AI makes it seem like something revolutionary and beneficial for all. However, it was pointed out that as a result of AI, there could be potential job displacements, which’ll lead to higher rates of unemployment, and in effect, worsening the livelihoods of many. Moreover, they discuss the risks that come with AI assisted writing due to their own limitations. Because ChatGPT “relies on an enormous and growing data” it won’t always have the most up-to-date information. As a result, their responses may be biased and full of inaccuracies. (The Challenges and Opportunities of AI-Assisted Writing) I agree with this notion as I stumbled upon a video of how ChatGPT was unable to detect how many rs there were in the word strawberry. While I found this a little humorous, I realized that even as the individual tried to explain to the AI that there were in fact three rs and not two, ChatGPT does not realize this mistake and continues to justify their answer. This lack of awareness of something so simple does not help anyone. There was also discussion of instructor’s fear with the use of AI on the academic integrity and learning of their students. As the author puts it, “some instructors worry that AI ‘will manipulate the human thought process and generate deception of thought’” (The Challenges and Opportunities of AI-Assisted Writing). I concur with this statement as those desperate for an easy way out of an assignment will agree with anything that they get from AI, unable to tell from what is true and what is not. I fear our future generation’s dependency on AI will lead to a world devoid of creativity and authenticity.

  5. After reading the text about AI, I learned that people have very mixed emotions and opinions on using AI in the workplace, school, or in general. Some think it can be a very important tool to help you gain ideas, write important emails, research topics, do work problems, plan teaching lessons, etc. Others think it can be a negative tool because people might use it for any work that should be their own like essays, exams, etc. Not only that but the fact it would get harder to identify who is using AI specifically ChatGPT because a lot of people use it. They’re also worried it will take over people’s jobs or limit job spaces. They also don’t want to learn how it is used or else they will have to redo their teaching lessons to fit AI into it. Others do want to involve AI and ChatGPT into the learning space especially in the business space because it can be a good opportunity for teachers to show students how to use AI responsibly to create interesting pieces. I think learning about AI and ChatGPT could relate to our class or any class in general by showing how it can be a helpful tool for some, helping them gain ideas just so they can start off on a good note and then do the rest by themselves, or it can be a risky tool because it might not have precise information or get people into a habit of using it for everything and not letting themselves do any work.

  6. Through reading the text, I gained many valuable insights into the usage of AI in academic environments and workplaces, and one specific finding stood out to me and left me curious. In the text, the author mentioned that a UPenn Wharton professor tried using GhatGPT to complete a final exam for an MBA course, and the results were B and B-. Which left me curious, because even an untrained chatbot can achieve such a grade in one of the best business schools in the world, what will happen if the professor feeds the chatbot with all course knowledge, examples, and prompts for it to practice? As we know the ability for AI to learn is extremely fast and with its ability of never forgetting things, it seems possible for it to absorb and utilize all knowledge required for a master’s degree in less than a week. Yet, the usage of AI deters our ability to grow, as the author mentioned relying on AI would shrink our ability to think critically over time. However, in today’s society, almost every industry incorporates human-AI workplace environments to increase efficiency and bring innovation to the company. To me, AI literacy seems to be one of the most important skills to attain to stay on track within this highly innovative society and to succeed in your career path.

  7. From the beginning of technology towards present times where technology is taking over reality, we can see that it has been a useful asset for our daily activities. Focusing on education specifically, students and even teachers use artificial intelligence to use for assignments or just to learn new things. Artificial intelligence is a major advancement into the technology field; it is a more lenient, persistent way of writing, especially for students and instructors, as it gives them ideas and/or tips. Using AI tools is a very useful thing for me, especially for assignments. Whenever I am stuck on something or I need extra information about a certain topic, using AI can be helpful as it generates texts based on a certain topic. However, artificial intelligence can have some downsides when it comes to information. There’s times when AI tools generate texts without accurate sources, which can cause some concerns when using these tools. Another concern that connects with the  lack of accuracy is the increase of plagiarism that will occur. When using AI, it’s important to understand that you need to understand and grasp the concepts of the generated texts instead of using word for word in your assignments. “I worry that students will adopt characterless, functional writing habits that do not allow them to think through problems on their own or with teams. AI ‘thinking’ can be limited, whereas the human imagination is unlimited.” (Cardon et. al. 2023, Page 6) This quote conveys a deeper meaning that all teachers, bosses, and any type of leader relate to, especially when it comes to critical thinking and problem solving. They want employees or students to solve and understand their own to increase their cognition and have a grasp of understanding on the objective of the entire task rather than just look it up and not learn anything at all. One example would be from my physics professor. Whenever exams are upcoming, he hands out practice sheets and then states, “I encourage you to try these sheets on your own before looking at the answers. If you just look at the answers, you won’t learn anything.” To surmise my reasoning, although AI tools are a useful tool to surpass obstacles when doing tasks, they can just cause concerns when it comes to credibility; therefore, we must use them in a proper way.

  8. According to experts and scholars, the use of artificial intelligence has transformed the present in a way that has increased productivity. While artificial intelligence can play a part in transforming the corporate world, others believe that there may be downsides such as loss of jobs due to ChatGPT replacing humans in work. Although ChatGPT has logical reasoning, there are flaws. For instance, ChatGPT can be biased towards certain topics and can even generate inaccurate information. In the field of higher education, studies showed that ChatGPT was able to perform just as well as an average student getting Bs and B-’s on exams. I personally have never used ChatGpt, not even once just to try it so I’m not sure how great it is or what it can accomplish. However, I do have a friend who has used ChatGPT many times. He usually uses it to help him solve math problems and according to him it has been very useful in helping him understand the concepts. The article highlights many valuable ways artificial intelligence contributes to the world but also warns about the negatives of using artificial intelligence.

  9. Based on the paper’s research, some of their findings through my own discovery was that Artificial Intelligence was created many years ago even prior to the twenty-first century. Apparently, the first ever Artificial Intelligence chatbot, Eliza, was created by an MIT professor named Joseph in 1966. I always thought ChatGPT and its previous module, original GPT, GPT2 -models, and GPT3-models were the first chatbot to be created. The release of ChatGPT actually just popularized large language models and accelerated the adoption of AI.

I remember the uprising from ChatGPT when it was relatively new back in 2022, when I was in my senior year of high school. It was all over the news, but only a couple of my classmates and some teachers knew about it. My dad was even telling me about ChatGPT before I experimented to see the reason behind the uproar. ChatGPT was revolutionary – it could help me write essays, complete writing assignments, help with decisions making, explaining complex topics, creating art, brainstorming ideas, doing math, code for you, and the list of capabilities just goes on. I asked some of my teachers about it because one of the biggest applications during senior year is common app applications; writing personal essays, and supplements for college. A lot of my teachers feared that using this tool would not only suppress learning, but also compromise academic integrity and authenticity. In the article, the studies showed that within the category of business communications instructors, more than 70% of them agree on the outcome of using ChatGPT would make it more difficult to assess student learning, lead to more plagiarism, lead to less critical thinking among those who uses it, less creativity, less credibility, and degrade writing skills. It turns out that my teachers were right because later on in the senior year, everyone knew about ChatGPT, and most of them did integrate it into completing their assignments, or just asked the Chatbot to write the entire homework assignment for them. Copying and pasting does not teach you any writing skills whatsoever, and because of the education system that is grades-based learning, as long as the content is able to get a high grade, it influences students to rely more on ChatGPT without actually improving on writing.

According to this article, Article link, it also corroborates with the researchers’ key notions that the use of ChatGPT is a challenge to learning. In their article, the thesis was to find out if ChatGPT was helpful or harmful, and examines the causes and consequences of generative AI usage among university students. The study provided evidence that “the excessive use of ChatGPT can develop procrastination, cause memory loss, and dampen academic performance of the students.” In the theoretical and practical implications, findings suggest that users who are more reliant on the excessive use of ChatGPT reduces critical thinking and creativity. Much like the research that is published in Sage Journal, it challenges students’ learning. Many instructors were concerned with students not taking responsibility for their own development in writing, and constraining their growth in their linguistic literacy over the long-term.

One of the practices that the business communication instructors emphasized is for students to incorporate Artificial Intelligence as a framework to aid you in research or learning. I fully support that the education system should be thinking about how to effectively teach students to use these tools in the classroom setting rather than banning it. The reasoning behind this is that Artificial Intelligence has already made an unprecedented advancement, and adopted by various industries, especially in business, where it’s used for content creation, advertising, marketing, responding to basic customer service requests, writing emails, letters, reports, speeches, evaluations, and so much more – you get the gist of it. The core message is, it improves the effectiveness of productivity in the workplace, but it doesn’t prove to be helpful if it’s used for the wrong reasons in an educational environment. ChatGPT can be used for good potential, when it comes to being a tutor for explaining difficult concepts like codes, or providing specialized information that you’re unfamiliar with. Overall, reflecting on this has helped me recognize how using Artificial Intelligence can serve as an efficient learning aid, exposing me to the harms, as well as providing me new insights to my own approach to research and knowledge acquisition.

How is this related to our class? In class we explore the depths of our literacy history and learn about our literacy sponsors – in which they could foster and suppress our learning. However, something drew my attention. It made me wonder, with more advancements to futuristic technology, will newer generations that are known as the “ipad-kids” also shift to a revolutionary era, where face-to-face learning experiences passed on by their mothers is now transitioned into an increasingly facilitated education through artificial intelligence?

  10. Artificial Intelligence has made revolutionary changes to the economy by increasing productivity and accuracy of repetitive task. However the downside to this is an increase in job loss and chaos within the economy. AI has also became very popular in the academic world as many students and educator may use AI like chatgpt to receive ideas on their assignment, lesson plans, and etc. This can potentially lead AI user relying on technology which can reduce the critical thinking and activity in the future. A research was conducted and it showed that human-AI collaboration can outperform groups of human only group. But in the long term the humans working with the AI would eventually just rely on AI and lose the ability to think for themselves. (pg 261) As much as AI is a leap for the future it can also result in a bigger set back. As more people rely on AI we might fall into a scary world of being controlled by technologies.

  11. The text had an interesting take on the use of AI. On how it is being used in school and the workplace. Personally I have used AI in school to better help me understand certain readings. Especially when the text is long and I forget certain aspects of it. AI is always there to help if I have a hard time understanding a certain topic. In that sense I would say it’s really useful. Yes people take advantage of AI, but using it in a beneficial way it can only do good. It’s not only a faster and more convenient way of learning, but on hand. You can use any electronic device at your disposal to use AI. Instead of waiting for a reply or assistance from a teacher, you can easily use AI to help you. It wouldn’t take more than a few seconds to get a response. AI has its downsides, but really helps students when they are struggling.

  12. From this reading, I gained different perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence in the workspace and educational institutes. With the increased use of Artificial intelligence recently specifically in schools we are instructed not to abuse this resource and steer away from it. However, this reading helps me understand how to use AI as a tool because AI at hand is a tool. Something new I learned was how professionals in the workspace like doctors used AI. A reference article within the text, A Better Way to Onboard AI Understand it as a tool to assist rather than replace people. by Boris Babic, Daniel L. Chen, Theodoros Evgeniou and Anne-Laure Fayard states, “Some medical specialists, for example, use AI tools to help make diagnoses and decisions about treatment.” With technology being so accessible it’s better to use the advantages it holds. Sometimes I struggle with phrasing or context, so using this tool of AI to rephrase prompts or help with reading would be useful. As much as we are taught about the downsides of AI we should be taught how to use it correctly and this article helps express both sides and how impactful we can make this tool.

  13. The use of AI is a very controversial subject. Many people think it is beneficial to our world; while others think it is harmful to our world. I think it is both beneficial and harmful. It depends how it is used. Some students use it to help get a better understanding on information they’re learning in school. Some professionals use it to reference articles. I think AI is okay to use in those cases. But when students use it to write entire essays for them and do all their work for them, I think AI is extremely harmful. It takes away a students ability to critically think. It should not be the students number one source for doing work. It should just be used as an extra tool to assist the student in creating ideas, or providing further information on the subject. I personally use AI to help me gain knowledge on information, or to help me create Ideas for writing assignments. I do not use it to write my whole essay. I use it in a way where it helps me expand my knowledge, not take away from it. I think AI is a took that could be very useful if used in the right circumstances. If it is abused, I think it is extremely harmful to us.

  14. I learned how Ai is seen as a turning point in writing. As scholars have pointed out in the article, Ai is able to cover more topics and help with expensive problems. By using its data base to assist in these problems. Ai would be used for good but if we rely heavily on Ai what happens to people who have jobs related to topics Ai could easily solve. As Ai grows the risk of human jobs disappearing is more likely. Why pay a human to do something Ai can get done in 5 minutes? This reminds me of how when Ai was first introduced people had this stigma against it as they were afraid of what Ai can do. Now it seems like the narrative switched, as now more people trust Ai. But i feel like a good balance of not relying on Ai for everything is what we need. The authors idea helps me understand my experience Ai in a new way, in high school Ai was heavily viewed down on, my teachers would always threaten if caught using Ai we’d fail. So no one really reached out to try it. Compared to the essay i see how Ai is more viewed as a support in the professional environment compared to a high school classroom. I relate this back to class as if i’m stuck on ideas or how to word current ideas to get my point across better i could use Ai as help to further improve.

  15. The use of AI is commonly seen and used throughout the workforce and the education system. Where common debates on whether AI is considered plagiarizing come with no human feeling when elaborating on a prompt. With AI it takes away the challenge in writing or research. Therefore, can replace a worker’s job or the title of the work because with AI there’s no work needed. The influence of AI discourages users to think critically and write using personal sources. But as the use of high tech fluctuates in this generation it’s hard not to define a system that was generated by AI. On the other hand, the conflict of many high tech companies or brand deal stores uses AI for their websites. With the high generated and fast techniques companies tend to move towards AI because it’s convenient and well organized. Hence, the use of AI is unavoided when it comes to its fast and compatible results.

  16. Throughout this reading, they’re many ways to use AI. One being big corporations using AI by designing an assistant tool that answers FAQ. Although their is “positive nature in these tools” some fear their might be a negative impacts of AI. CHAT GPT has had a positive and negative influence on our society as people take it for granted rather than using it as a tool to assist them. People use it as a personal gain as well as a cheat code to any questions or assignments they may be prompted. Visualizing AI in major corporations is a bit odd because its labeled as the biggest technological advancement to adapt into our generation. I believe that AI is a tool meant for people who’re lost in their own bubble hence making it a good tool to ask questions and be open minded. While AI provides high-quality answers, I believe human skills such as critical thinking will become less important which prompts me to say where do you draw the line? What’re the boundaries of using AI?

  17. AI is transforming the way we write and solve problems in the real world, Ais Like Chatgpt are like a double edged sword with its variety of benefits and negatives. On one hand, AI can tackle complex issues in minutes, making it super efficient like shortening a reasesrch paper. But on the other hand, I can’t help but worry about the jobs it might replace. In school, we were always warned against using AI—teachers made it sound like a shortcut to failure and caught with it will receive a F. Now, though, it seems like AI is more accepted in the professional world as a helpful tool. While I think it can be great for brainstorming and improving my writing, I fear that relying too much on it might weaken our creativity skills. Companies love AI for its speed, but where do we draw the line?.

  18. Artificial intelligence has many potential applications in the workplace, including in marketing and sales, customer service, operations, information technology, engineering, legal analysis, and finance. ChatGPT has the ability to generate a wide range of logical statements and facts. Using them for the purpose of learning can be a useful and resourceful aid. But unfortunately, there are flaws in the chat gpt system: “it could also lead to lower transparency, less autonomy for human researchers, bias, and the spread of misinformation” (p. 4). Using AI as a learning support could be functional, but the line ends when it no longer has the ability to provide the right support. This event would actually lead us to develop backwards when people rely too much on AI. They decrease promotion in self-learning and having the ability to learn by oneself. But not just based on logical learning; it could also deprive us of emotional logic. Although ChatGPT functions by constant learning of human emotions, what it can project is still general and monotone. But because it is artificial intelligence, it deprives us of the human emotions of writing and describing. We can feel how writers feel, if not more, by what they write. And what makes this trait special is because it projects individualism, a trait that AI cannot conduct.

  19. According to this author, the use of AI for writing is being responded to numerous ways. Some people are extremely fearful of this new invention while others taking this new development in stride and using it in ways that appear beneficial. However, the use of AI could be seen as something harmful as it could do all of the work that would require people to utilize and exercise the brain. This would mean that people would become extremely stupid because if the brain is not exercised then the intelligence and processing speed of the brain would diminish. It is commonly said the brain is a muscle and that to keep your intelligence you must “use it or lose it”. On the other hand it could also be extremely helpful for people who struggle to connect their ideas or understand dense readings. A person could place all of their ideas into an AI service like ChatGPT and have it connect these ideas into a sentence describing this idea that makes sense to the common person. If a student has trouble understanding what a textbook is saying they could input the reading into ChatGPT and the AI could explain it to the student in a way they understand. It may also help a person find reliable sources to cite for a paper. But the downside to this is the question of the AI service’s quality of work. It may be extremely inaccessible or go completely off-topic.

  20. Multiple companies have endorsed the usage of AI, saying that it is the future as it can “improve billions of lives” and provide an “outlet for creativity.” However, if multiple people rely on the usage of AI, people would not have their own sense of creativity and simply depend on AI to do the work for them. I have personally used ChatGPT before, mainly to help explain math problems that I had trouble with or help create an outline for a story that I didn’t know how to start. AI is useful in many ways when it comes to helping people with multiple issues but it becomes a problem when people overly depend on that AI to write their own stories and essays. AI may be improving to sound more like a human but it still does not have the humility, emotions, or the same passion that a human has.

  21. Artificial intelligence has become widely popularized in many fields and continuously developed to soon “craft most or all of our written or image-based content” (page 2). This development has brought many arguments in both the academics and the work field. While some people bring light to the positive aspects of this tool —such as promoting effective writing, enabling discussion, and allowing the quick completion of tasks— others condemn it and even push for regulations. Some concerns surrounding AI include: increase in plagiarism, less creative thinking, inaccurate information, decrease in writing skills, and most importantly the loss of jobs. Social media has been great in supporting these concerns; many people using their platform to speak out on the fear they feel in getting replaced by AI. This is a fear commonly shared by those in the art industry, who have seen the tool be increasingly used by agencies and as a result stripped them of potential job offers. As a result, AI has gathered much attention and is constantly framed as a negative and dangerous invention. Throughout my high school years, most of my teachers have been strict in the use of this tool, with many announcing an automatic zero on a paper if its use is detected. However, despite these concerns, many businesses have implanted the use of AI and some teachers have even been opened to the assistance of it. According to them, AI provides great help in generating ideas, creating early drafts, crafting prompts, and allowing for a higher level of thinking. College is the first time I have seen this argument be made and supported. It was rather interesting to hear my English professor encourage the use of AI after having many of my high school English teachers depict it as voodoo. However, it makes sense why its use is now encouraged. It has to do with the fact that AI can only do so much right now. It might provide a full essay, but that essay will still have to be thoroughly revised for it to feel authentic. This means that many writing skills are still being actively used rather than erased. This type of incorporation has therefore caused me to view AI as not a cheat tool but rather as a helpful resource.

  22. As I read the article, I learned of the promotion of AI and the challenges and opportunities that come with it.
Can you share a personal experience that supports or challenges the author’s key ideas?
A personal experience that challenges AI would be the positive aspect of it. For English class in my senior year of high school, I was assigned an essay to write about the book A Doll’s House. I decided to use chat GPT to give me inspiration and ideas. This did not help me at all, my teacher found out and explained to me that this was not useful. This did not give me any ideas. It was not making me use my creativity at all. This is negative as AI giving you ideas for assignments rids you of your personal ideas and your creativity.
A key idea from the author’s essay that helped me understand my own experience in a new way would be credibility. My own experience was working hard to learn the way I write. In the article when it talks about credibility and I feel as though that is unfair. AI is taking credibility from others and it can make others who worked just as hard or hard seem like worse writers. I want my work to be my own and shown to others as hard work. I have no interest in being compared to others who used AI for their work.
What I learned is related to our class as in this class we write personally, from our own experiences. AI can take away from that and expand our ideas but it cannot take over our creativity. It cannot remove and take for its own our own experiences. This is why this class is so important. We, as humans have our own ideas, our own experiences that have happened AI does not.

  23. AI has become increasingly popular since the past year. The author talks about how meanwhile AI can be helpful, it can definitely have its negative impacts. In high school, AI websites like ChatGPT were incredibly relied on by students. It was an easy way for everybody to get their work done and get a grade without using their brain or wasting any time. This had a significant impact on them because not only did it get them in trouble with the school, they also don’t have the skill to do what humans are supposed to do, which is to think on our own. The use of AI allows us to reduce the need of using our own brainpower simply because it’s a “shortcut”. The author also mentions how with advanced tech, the use of “classical human skills and liberal arts such as critical thinking, communication, and problem solving become more rather than less important”. I agree with the author because the skill of critically thinking is not something we can gain via AI. The use of it should not be our first solution to our work just because it seems easier. AI should be used in a manner of assistance rather than replacing our own work. Whether it be school or a workplace, the use of AI can be helpful if used in a manner of assistance. Other than that, it could potentially harm our use of critical thinking since it actually takes away our desire to do work ourselves.

  24. Although AI can be helpful, the author of this article conveys reasons why AI can be detrimental to society. Although I feel that I am supported by AI, let it be Grammarly or AI that helps me find places to eat, etc. The author stated, “Some experts forecast that business communication will be dramatically influenced by AI-assisted writing and other forms of generative AI.” This would be the start of evolving issues with AI. This concern leads to more concerns about the fear of AI taking over activities that should be done by humans. There already have jobs that being taken over by AI. Additionally, the article stated that Chatgbt, “Could also lead to lower transparency, less autonomy for human researchers, bias, and the spread of misinformation.” Although this can happen with humans, Chatgbt heightens the chance. AI can replicate human behavior but it can’t perfect it. This is why empathy, sadness, and other feelings can’t be created perfectly by AI. As of right now, while I agree with the author, I haven’t been personally affected by AI. I continue to use it for grammar because it helps me learn what I am doing wrong. I do acknowledge that overusing it starts to dull the brain and our creativity. This is related to our class because if we use AI for every assignment or even once, we start to lose our voice. This is especially true in our assignment right now. It is harder to write a narrative essay especially since it is our story. Overall, AI is beneficial to a certain extent. But I do leave with a question, how do we know when we’ve used AI too much? And how can we regulate this?

  25. AI is slowly becoming the new “norm” and more and more people are using it. Whether it be to help them get started with an essay or gain feedback on an essay, we cannot deny that AI is consuming our lives. Some say it may even take over our jobs later in the future. One of the authors included and talked about the dangers of using AI and how it can affect our writing skills later on. If we were to rely on ChatGpt for all of our writings, then yes I can agree that this will affect how we write or read later on. But if it’s to start up a paper or gain some ideas on what to write about, I think using AI is good. Sometimes we have those days where we can’t think of what to write and using something like AI to share some ideas can make us start to think of what we want to write. I personally have used AI to give me ideas for a board game project and using their ideas helped me come up with my own. The ideas of different board games helped me not get stuck on an easy project.

  26. I learned about the different uses for AI, for example the author talks about research done in 2022. They examined the use of ChatGPT with essay-type questions. They also examined its performance with questions that require a lot of critical thinking. ChatGPT can’t generate responses with a deep level of accuracy and depth as a human can. A personal experience that support’s the author’s key ideas was when many large companies started utilizing AI. For example, Microsoft and Apple – it’s taking the place of humans in some cases. There are a few benefits when it comes to the workplace like increased productivity, improved decision making and cost reduction. I also used ChatGPT while in high school to create ideas when I needed more inspiration. However, some ideas from the author helped me realize the affect it can have on you in the future. If you rely on AI tools too much, it can lessen creativity and will make your work less authentic. It can also be crucial if you are seen using the platform. This reading will benefit me in my future classes and jobs because I know how to expand my ideas without lessening the creativity.

  27. What stood out most from this reading was how AI affected our society. AI has its pros and cons and one of the cons is how AI can take over someone’s job. “The Guardian recently reported that more than 6 million workers in the UK fear being replaced by machines.” I think AI would be more beneficial if they replaced us because they are more efficient and powerful. One of the pros is that AI can provide us with any information if we ever need help. For example ChatGPT, you can ask ChatGPT to make you an essay and it will do it within seconds. You can ask the AI any question you have, and it will always be of assistance. Overall I personally think AI is bad for us because if we always rely on AI, we won’t get far in life. We have to learn skills and expand our knowledge without the use of AI.

  28. I agree with everyone that AI can be both helpful and harmful, I think that we don’t acknowledged that students have always found ways to avoid doing work, even before AI existed. The difference now is that AI makes it more convenient for students to skip the critical thinking process entirely, and it does so much faster. Instead of using AI to help with understanding or generating ideas like it meant for, some students rely on it to do all the work, which weakens their ability to think for themselves. This is concerning because, without critical thinking, students won’t develop the skills needed to solve problems or analyze information on their own. So, while AI has its benefits, we need to be careful about how we use it. Instead of letting it replace our thinking, we should be using it as a tool to help us learn and grow. Like a wise man once said, “the brain is a muscle, and critical thinking works it out and strengthens it.” Relying on AI doesn’t build the mental muscles we need for life.

  29. One thing that stood out to me was how AI is very normalized. To the point that people use it every day. Some people use it for work Or even non-Work related things as well. And the author also into the idea that AI is Very helpful. It will never truly be equivalent to as if we were to write it ourselves. Because AI is machine generated, it is missing the empathy part that else as humans feel. The article The Challenges and Opportunities of AI-Assisted Writing: Developing AI Literacy for the AI Age states ‘This study of 343 communication instructors revealed a collective view that AI-assisted writing will be widely adopted in the workplace and will require significant changes to instruction. Key perceived challenges include less critical thinking and authenticity in writing.’ And this goes back to the idea of how normalized the use of AI. as I continue to read the text. I noticed the same question kept coming up for me .Is a I truly helping us or is it just a shortcut to make our lives easier? the author as well taped into the idea of because of the Ai we are using critical thinking. I believe we are getting too comfortable comfortable using AI and and eventually it will prohibit us from using our personal thinking.

  30. After reading this article I gained some insightful information about the use of AI. AI can be a something beneficial to learn because as we move along AI will only get stronger. There could be a chance of AI replacing humans in most categories. Many of us have already started adapting to AI by using it either in school for assignments or at work for better promotion or ideas. Students use ChatGPT for examples or resources when help is needed. However there can be a few cons when it comes to using AI. ChatGPT is widely used in schools and businesses. Due to this the generated responses don’t lack the core thinking or depth that a human would use when responding. I think learning AI is important though, because it will only advance more in the future and become more accepted as the norm.

  31. The given article talks about the role of AI in our society as well as its impacts on the creativity of a human species. As of today most people have a negative perception about the use of AI, especially when it comes to writing. And while that’s a completely understandable position the article also describes the fact that as technology advances we as humans will have to accept that fact and adapt to it. Ai by itself is a great invention and in my opinion it will be something that humans will use in a day to day basis due to how many uses it has. You can find any information in seconds, you can create your personal study or workout plan. Ai gives many limitless opportunities, however whenever it’s mentioned people usually assume that the only use for it is to cut corners which is completely untrue. When it comes to writing, Ai isn’t always a bad thing, it can help you improve your idea or even give you a list of all the sources that would help you study and prepare for whatever your task is including writing. People need to understand that there’s more than one perspective in most things in the world including Ai. And considering how fast it’s spreading and evolving it wouldn’t be a surprise if in a few years we would look back and not understand that the hate that Ai generated was pointless.

  32. Ai has gained popularity over the last few years after the pandemic started, particularly among high school students and college students. Using websites such as ChatGPT for completing assignments. While Ai could be beneficial for understanding difficult and complex concepts as well as enhancing productivity, it does in fact pose risks to younger generations by reducing critical thinking and creativity because students become dependent on it. People argue that the over reliance of Ai could diminish cognitive skills, and instead saying that the brain should be exercised to maintain intelligence. However others believe that Ai can help aid in improving as well as learning communication. While people still argue whether Ai should be viewed as a threat to traditional learning or as a valuable source of information, I believe it may be helpful to a certain extent. Using it as an aid instead of copying the information is crucial for maintain basic human skills.

  33. AI-assisted writing presents both opportunities and challenges, as the reading discusses. One of the key takeaways is that while AI tools like ChatGPT can be useful for generating ideas and assisting with writing, they also raise concerns about accuracy, overreliance, and ethical implications in education and professional settings. The reading highlights how AI can streamline the writing process but also warns about misinformation and the potential loss of critical thinking skills if users become too dependent on it.

From my experience as a student and journalist, AI can be a helpful tool for structuring ideas, but it cannot replace human creativity and analysis. ( or can, who knows ) I’ve found that while AI can provide a starting point, it often lacks depth, nuance, and contextual understanding. This aligns with the reading’s concern about AI-generated content lacking credibility. Overall, AI is useful, but it should be used as a supplement rather than a replacement for human writing.

  34. The reading highlights the increasing application of AI-assisted writing in business communication and education. While AI tools can assist with efficiency and ideas, they also create the issue of undermined critical thinking and originality of writing. This is applicable to my personal experience as an ESL student. Sometimes I difficult to write in English and rely on AI tools like Grammarly and ChatGPT to help me translate my ideas. Although they helped me improve grammar and composition, I keep in mind that excessive reliance can reduce my active participation in the process of learning.

The reading also emphasizes AI literacy, such as understanding how to take advantage of AI without sacrificing accountability and authenticity. This is important both professionally and academically. Going forward, I see AI as a tool and not a replacement for independent thinking. There has to be a balance between AI assistance and personal effort so that learning and skill development are not eroded.

  35. Writing summary3 -AI

This reading material is analyzing the “AI age” and how to use AI in various section of our society, particularly in educational part. From administrators to students we all can’t avoid of this new wave.

Since we are living in the would surrounded by generative AI, we need to learn AI literacy with 4A (Application, Authenticity, Accountability, and Agency). Among those 4 factors what I think the most important thing is Authenticity. It is about real communication and more focusing on one’s own voice and showing sincerity.

Using AI tools in writing could be helpful in the beginning stages of writing . However we should know that we might lose our ability of critical thinking and creativity which is important when we write our own story.

To be honest, I used chatGPT only once. Because I was afraid to copy its results without even noticing it, and lose my attention, ability of critical thinking.

But, after reading this report, I’ve changed my point of view. I can’t avoid it.
It would be better to learn how to use it properly and exploit it to improve my English such as grammar mistakes and typos.

Like it said, improving AI literacy is crucial for everyone such as students, instructors and company workers too. As long as we get used to using it properly it will save our troubles and help us to manage our time efficiently.

  36. It is quite incredible and haunting that we are experiencing a drastic change live as it happens. AI is an invention described as having the same impact as the PC and the internet. Its repercussions for both good and bad are here to stay. Living through these historical moments as they happen isn’t something you can always claim to be in, it is a momentous occasion. With technology’s exponential improvements, we can likely expect another incredible and gradual invention that will change a large portion of how we live our lives.

The article agrees with the notion of the invention of AI carrying massive consequences. The negative consequences would be straining critical thinking and authenticity of many writers especially if AI is deliberately misused. We already see this through the countless homework done by middle-schoolers. Younger and inexperienced individuals would naturally prefer to take the easy route because they’re just not aware of the long-term consequences. On the flip-side, the paper claims that proper AI usage may yield better idea formulation and efficiency – and it concludes that the positives far outweigh its negatives. For better or for worse, AI is here to stay – thus, we must adapt around it.

  37. What I find interesting is that this article encourages the use of AI in classrooms. The reason is that people in workplaces use them too. Teachers should add AI-related content to their courses. I find this interesting because most teachers I know discourage us from using AI or ban AI usage. I remember I held an art contest on Discord for a new logo design for our Discord. I was excited to see amazing artists. But to my disappointment, everyone submitted AI-generated work. It looks good; that was about it. It was not possible to judge their work. They all looked alike to the point that I stopped the contest. I see no point in holding a contest if all they do is input the prompt for AI to generate.
Similarly, teachers are having a hard time distinguishing students’ works from AI-generated ones. Business communication instructors believe the way of teaching should change for the AI Age, but many are still not. Most instructors’ concerns about assistance for writing will harm the students in learning and as writers. Another concern is the loss of unique and original writing. I will too be concerned if all the writing in the future sounds similar. Therefore, it is important to inform students of the pros and cons of AI so they will not rely on it heavily. Ai can be a good way to generate ideas to start a project. But it is best to do the thinking yourself.

  38. AI in the classroom is something inevitable, many people use it, but
in many cases in a bad way, in my personal opinion, AI can help us with difficult topics or when we are most confused, it can explain to us those topics that we find difficult, or it can also help us by finding more precise information. AI is a good tool if we use it effectively, The correct use of AI can benefit us, and thus help us either academically or in daily life, this is beneficial for some as something that can affect us if we do not use it correctly since excessive use of it can become bad, and get used to always taking the easy way, this consequently would make us unable to develop our ideas or thoughts. n my experience, I use AI when I am most confused about a topic. For example, when I don’t understand something in class, it helps me generate ideas. I also use it in my daily life to ask about the best product to buy or to find out the best way to spend a free day. AI is not just for doing homework or putting words in my mouth that are not my own; it is a tool that can be very helpful if used effectively.

  39. The article talked about the impact of generative AI has on critical thinking and the authenticity of one’s writing, and also encouraged the use of AI as a part of the educational program.
I personally believe what the article is trying to say, since my previous university, the University of New South Wales, had professors as well as tutors encouraging the use of generative AI and implementing AI into their teaching. They did this by telling everyone how to correctly write prompts for the generative AI, encouraging students to use AI to assist with brainstorming when facing a writer’s block, they also required students to write a report on how they used AI and what they used AI for when submitting their assignment. I believe that by doing this it has helped me to better understand the correct way of utilizing generative AI.
Given the findings stated in the article and my previous personal experience, I do believe that all other educational institutions would adapt AI into their system. Similar to what is said by Lorenzo, this would be similar to how computers and the internet has now been apart how we learn.

  40. Technology is making drastic changes in many industries, including the education service industry. This article describes the impact of AI and I couldn’t felt more identified. ChatGPT has become a best friend for many students, and without realizing we are becoming codependable. The brain is like a muscle that needs to be exercised and AI can decrease our cognitive skills. I questioned myself if AI is enforcing or weakening my critical thinking or if constant usage is counterproductive. But is inevitable to consider all the benefits AI has, as per the article it can help organize ideas, help brainstorm, and more. In my opinion, we are going through a digital transformation and as per my CIS class businesses need to adapt to technologies because if they fail to do so risk falling behind. We have many examples of what was once a successful business, Blockbuster didn’t adapt to the new market conditions influenced by technology and was replaced by Netflix. AI is a part of our lives, and we need to learn how to play with it.

Additionally, many businesses are implementing and replacing some tasks with AI, and we need to adapt to this new technology like our parents had to do with computers. However, we can’t rely 100% on apps like ChatGPT since some information may not be accurate. Another important point was that instructors need to change the teaching, its scary and I share the feeling with the 47% of the study that feels nervous or anxious, this feeling of being replaced without permission, many news of automation displacing routine jobs, or seeing business full of machines instead of humans, brings uncertainty. But I think the teaching system needs to help us create new skills and tools needed in the work field that as of right now is adapting to the technology era.

  41. Through this journal, the author mainly expresses concerns about the diminishing critical thinking and authenticity in writing due to reliance on AI, particularly ChatGPT. The author highlights the limitations of ChatGPT, such as plagiarism, fake news, and security risk. Also, the author mentioned how important it is to improve ‘AI literacy’ including authenticity, accountability, and agency in current era. Since AI is easily accessible not only in the academic situation and writing class, but also in daily life and any other classes, I could relate to my writing, daily life, and even ethical considerations in science. Also, it reminded me of the risk and expected problems in my writing skills and critical thinking ability by reading the journal.
While I understand the author’s concerns, I believe that capitalizing on new technology, including AI, is equally important. The author’s points may be valid to some extent, but people should try to see the forest, not tree. In other words, people need macro-perspective rather than micro-perspective.
Historically, whenever new technology has been invented, there have been pushbacks and worries from the public. For example, in early 19th century, Luddite movement occurred to oppose the mechanization and automated machinery during industrial revolution. The public tried to destroy the machine concerning that automated machinery will cause unemployment. Can you understand with current perspective? And do you think the development of automated machinery has negatively affected to human being? Similarly, concerns were raised about studying with computers and tablets. And they assert that people need to use paper not using computer because readability of computer is less effective than paper book. However, if a study suggests that computers are inferior to paper in terms of readability, does that mean we should abandon digital reading altogether? Shouldn’t we read the book or article on smartphone? Same logic applies to calculator? If research indicates that calculator negatively affects to the student’s logical reasoning and calculation ability comes out, should we go back to calculating everything by hand or abacus?
Likewise, I have been helped from ChatGPT and try to make the most of its positive functions not just simply copying and relying on it, but by writing my own ideas and using ChatGPT to correct grammar errors and suggest better vocabulary. This has made the writing process significantly more effective and convenient. If ChatGPT had not been used, I would have had to look up everything in a dictionary myself. Rather, I could improve my literacy and writing skills using AI tool well.
We cannot ignore how technological advancements have made our lives more convenient and fact that scientific development enhanced accessibility, allowing us to read even on the subway or bus thanks to significantly improved portability. For this reason, although I agree with the statement that students need to improve ‘AI literacy’ at the same time., I also worry about the excessive concerns and AI-phobia.

  42. After reading the text about AI, I noticed that people have very mixed opinions and emotions about using AI in our everyday lives: workplace, school, etc. Some people believe that AI is an important and necessary part of the technological improvement that can help us gain many more ideas, write important letters and emails, research topics, and so many other things. On the other side, people are also worried about AI replacing our jobs or limiting job opportunities. On the education side, the use of AI can be hurtful to students unless they manage to use it properly. Even the author mentions that “Some instructors worry that AI will manipulate the human thought process and generate deception of thought,” which can become totally true. Numerous students have started using AI, especially Chat GPT, with the intention of pursuing easy ways – writing essays, answering assignments – which can definitely lead to decreasing their own ability to think critically as well as write efficiently. In addition to that, AI doesn’t always give us up-to-date information as it only depends on a large existing database. From reading the text, I acknowledge the idea that we should only use AI as a supplementary tool for our work, and the rest of it should be left to us. At the same time, I fear that our future generation’s dependency on AI will lead to a world lacking creativity and authenticity.

  43. Artificial Intelligence delivers technology which enables machines to execute duties that need human intelligence to solve problems and make decisions and learn new information. The technology finds extensive applications throughout healthcare along with finance and education and entertainment services. People who use AI systems acquire capabilities to automate tasks along with data analysis techniques and programming abilities. Using AI beyond acceptable measures results in multiple ethical issues including biased activities and privacy breaches which produce false information while also eliminating employment spots. People must understand AI strengths alongside its weaknesses to manage the technology correctly in their daily routines.

  44. As I read this article I understood that AI has definitely changed the way students learn, making studying easier and more accessible. It provides quick answers, and helpful study tools. However, relying too much on AI comes with negative effects. Many students use it to complete assignments without fully understanding the material, which can then weaken their critical thinking and creativity. Basically, instead of figuring things out on their own, they might depend on AI to fully do the work for them. This can also lead to weaken understanding, as students get used to instant answers instead of digging deeper into topics. Another issue is accuracy—AI isn’t always right, and trusting it blindly can spread misinformation. It also makes cheating and plagiarism easier, creating academic integrity concerns. AI learning can reduce real-life interactions, affecting communication skills. AI is a great tool, but in my opinion, students should use it wisely to truly benefit from their education.

  45. This article brings different views of the use of AI. In one hand, we have people who believe that AI is a great tool that can make things easier to everyone and that can have a very positive impact on our lives. In the other hand, we have people that are concern that AI will be use in a way that is not positive, like using it to do things that we should be learning how to do it. Personally, I believe that AI is not supposed to be used as a searching tool. I think that when we are looking for answers, is important to be checking on places that we know will bring us a truthful information, since AI can make mistakes, and we can even see a message on chat GPT that says: “Chat GPT can make mistakes. Check important info”. When we are in a learning environment it is important that we don’t choose the easiest way to get a good grade, because what we are seeing will be necessary for our future jobs and career. If we use chat GPT to write all our writing assignments for example, when the time comes, we won’t even know how an essay should be organized. AI is a tool that needs to be used with a lot of responsibility and it should be used to help with small things, not to do everything we don’t want to.

  46. Business communications instructor recognize the need to upgrade their teaching to integrate AI-assisted writing tools, as the increase of these technologies, many people are more often to starting looking for the AI to help or use it as a tool to get ideas. However, reactions vary around people arguing that AI some people think that AI as an opportunity for innovation, while others express as an impact to the learning for students. Many Students worry about using AI to complete assignments dishonestly. Concerns increase for the learning about the AI assisted writings. Although many teachers agree that AI could be a tool for corrections or areas for improvement, others consider as a dishonesty or cheating to complete a work. AI can be an strategic advantage for embrace AI to enhance learning while maintaining essential human communication skills. To maximize its benefits, educators must establish clear guidelines, promote AI use, and ensure students develop critical thinking and originality.

  47. Reading the article made me reflect on AI’s role in education. While it can be useful, my experience showed its limitations.

In high school, I used AI for an essay, hoping for inspiration. Instead, it provided generic ideas that didn’t help me think critically. My teacher pointed out that relying on AI took away my creativity. This made me realize that true learning comes from struggling through the process, not taking shortcuts.

The article’s discussion on credibility also resonated with me. Writing reflects effort and individuality—AI-generated work lacks authenticity. This connects to our class, where we focus on personal expression. AI may assist, but it cannot replace human creativity and lived experience.

  48. n this article we learn about the significant impact of AI in our world, especially ChatGPT and its impact on education, work, and business communication. Since its release in November 2022, ChatGPT has been hailed by scholars and tech leaders as a “game-changer” and a “tipping point” for AI tools. Notable figures like Bill Gates, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, and Mark Zuckerberg emphasize its potential to boost productivity and creativity. However, there is some AI’s negative impacts, such as job losses and geopolitical risks. Experts like Kissinger et al. (2023) warn of AI-driven imperialism if certain countries dominate these technologies. Regulatory bodies, especially in the EU, are already pushing for AI governance, with Italy temporarily banning ChatGPT. The article also highlights that AI could revolutionize business communication by automating written and visual content generation, as forecasted by Davenport and Mittal (2022). Overall, while AI offers transformative possibilities, it also poses challenges that require careful management and regulation.

  49. My thoughts on AI, as much as it is argued on the internet that AI is going to bring the downfall of human beings and as such that it will take jobs away. Following the challenges of AI and how it’s going to shape our learning, there was a certain point that I would like to add. From a Reddit post, I have seen a thread that was talking about somebody’s article as being flagged as written by AI, even though in reality it was not. One popular comment under that mega-thread was that oftentimes, by following AI too much. We human beings may start to adopt the style of AI and lose our own creative way of writing. As humans, we are always learning from our surroundings. By reading AI texts in the process of learning, we might get carried away from what is our own style of writing. One possible reason behind the article being flagged as AI might have been due to the adoption of the style of AI unconsciously. Not that the person did it on purpose. This is also supported by the data from the website that “in a quantitative survey, Roughly 73 percent believe that AI-assisted writing will lead to lower perceived authenticity.”. AI can and will interfere with the learning process of human beings.

  50. AI is a unique tool, it helps out a lot in terms of education, economically, technologically, and in workforces, and businesses. AI helps give ideas, and it’s something that helps out many people, because it’s an open source, it is more open to sources, however, due to it’s absolutely neutral nature, many people can manipulate AI in a sense where it does the work for them. My personal part for me about AI is that it’s a open-source calculator, I know someone who did Bachelor in CS, at NYU, and has said with job parts, CS will not leave, rather evolve which WILL kill off many jobs, but CS is more likely going to revolve around AI than other things, because AI does most of the work, and at the pace it does it, not many humans can compete it, like coding, coming out of an NYU major.

  51. Who in this world doesn’t know about AI and ChatGPT today? The user base for AI is massive, surpassing that of TikTok and Instagram. I use AI frequently. I was in school when I first heard about ChatGPT from a friend, and I was amazed at how it can provide answers in a fraction of a second. I started using it extensively for my assignments, homework, and even tests. But recently, I discovered, as the authors say, that it lacks the human touch in the text, despite generating human-like content. However, it’s a great tool to enhance writing, which needs to be handled intelligently by asking the right questions. Furthermore, the claim that ChatGPT is less effective at mathematical reasoning is accurate, as about 30% of the questions it encounters result in incorrect answers. Additionally, if asked the same question multiple times, it gives different responses each time. Beyond academics, I use AI to write basic notes and letters, summarize large texts, and even draft legal affidavits. The analysis in Table 1 is quite surprising; teachers view AI as a form of academic dishonesty and discourage its use, while in business contexts, effective writing is expected and encouraged. Given the growing demand for AI, educators should teach its correct use and incorporate it into their curricula because the reality is that AI is the future, and we must learn to use it wisely

  52. According to my own experience, I think AI is a good tool, I am computer science student and sometimes I would write some code under the support with ai. Sometimes I just want to write some code for some small tool, if you are someone who is interested in Android development, and is not very familiar with and not interested in web development, you can let it write the difficult code for you. And then, you can read the code and learn something from it, read the code line by line, and copy and paste the part you don’t know, let AI help you figure out why the code is written like that and learn some knowledge from it. Also, I have copilot extension in my code editor who can automatically complete my code, which helps a lot.
So, personally, I think it is a good idea to learn to use AI but pay attention to the output since it sometimes make mistakes. Thinking on your own is also important.

  53. This article discusses how AI writing is redefining how we think of communication, especially at the workplace and academic level. I found that while AI applications like ChatGPT are able to speed up writing efficiency and facilitate brainstorming, they also raise questions of authenticity, originality, and developing critical thinking. The authors suggest that students must gain “AI literacy,” or the skills to master using AI in an ethical and responsible manner. As a student who occasionally uses AI to assist with grammar or generate ideas, I can understand how useful this tool can be—but also recognize the risk of overdependence on it. This reading reminds me of how I can responsibly use AI, especially given that writing is such a large part of both my college life and future career. It is most directly connected to our class assignments. It also makes me wonder about how technology affects how we communicate.
