This video is based on a study showing that woman are the main breadwinners in their families. This notion that only men being the breadwinners is fading away as woman show that two can play this game.

 This pictures shows the rise of woman being breadwinners in the U.S and it is still continuing to rise as we speak. This is just the beginning for the future has to bring.

Census Fatherhood Statistics

70.1 million: Estimated number of fathers across the nation.
24.7 million: Number of fathers who were part of married-couple families with children younger than 18 in 2013

• 21 percent were raising three or more children younger than 18 (among married-couple family households only).
• 3 percent lived in someone else’s home.

2.0 million: Number of single fathers in 2013; 17 percent of custodial single parents were men.

• 9 percent were raising three or more children younger than 18.
• About 44 percent were divorced, 33 percent were never married, 19 percent were separated, and 4.2 percent were widowed.
• 39 percent had an annual family income of $50,000 or more.

214,000: Estimated number of stay-at-home dads in 2013. These married fathers with children younger than 15 have remained out of the labor force for at least one year primarily so they can care for the family while their wives work outside the home. These fathers cared for about 434,000 children.

18% – In spring 2011, the percentage of preschoolers regularly cared for by their father during their mother’s working hours.

Father Involvement and Education

When fathers are involved in the lives of their children, especially their education, their children learn more, perform better in school, and exhibit healthier behavior. Even when fathers do not share a home with their children, their active involvement can have a lasting and positive impact. There are countless ways to be involved in your child’s education at all ages.

According to a 2007 National Center for Education Statistics Report:

• 92% of students in grades K though 12 had parents who reported receiving any information from the school on the student’s performance.
• 83% had parents who received any information about how to help with homework.
• 59% of students in grades K through 12 had parents who were “very satisfied” with their child’s school; 55% had parents who were very satisfied with the school’s parent-staff interactions.

The presence of a responsible father promotes improves academic performance and reduces disciplinary problems among children.

According to religions, cultures, beliefs a man is the provider of his family, but according to society they make man become more than what he should be. His role is also to protect his wife, and child and if he is seen not to do so then he is less of a man. This puts a lot of pressure on men and their roles in society as being the breadwinner. In the book “The Unfinished Revolution” by Kathleen Gerson she says in chapter seven page 159, ” If women worry about the economic, social, and psychological risks of depending too much on someone else, men are more apprehensive about their financial ability to support others”. In others words as I previously has said men feel more of that pressure of making support for their family financially if their wife or significant other depend on them too much.

Men are seen as depicted as “Superman” and have the weight of the world on their shoulder, which can be a burden on them. So the question I ask to you: are your ready to put on your cape and be a hero???

As I had previously said that society has mad it a norm that women are seen as caregivers , taking care of the children and the household, but for father it is seen not as normal because for the most part men are the breadwinners and are the providers for majority of the households. So for a man to be a caregiver it is good for a father to spend that quality time with his children that he may not have if he was working, but still adjusting is still needed to be done in todays gender roles. The book also states that ” Men face rising pressures to do more at home and earn more at work if they do not marry”. If a man is the caregiver the woman would like for everything to be done just as she would have done if she was staying home and the man was working. That may include cleaning up the house, washing clothes, taking care of the children, and preparing a meal for the family.
