For a women it is a give and take to be a breadwinner, meaning that if they make the most in the household over their partner they are seen as the dominant figure while the man is looked at as emasculated or less of a man. If they dont make more they are cool with that. In the text from an article called ” ” it says Breadwinning for men historically has been constructed as a career-primary identity; meaning, a principal focus on paid work with a secondary focus on home. Yet this career-centric aspect of breadwinning most often was resisted in women’s accounts. Many women discursively positioned themselves as challenging assumptions that as breadwinners they are primarily focused on their careers. Resisting career-primary assumptions was seen in just over half of the passages evoking this facet of breadwinning. Still, in a third of career-primary passages, woman positioned themselves centrally career- focused.
