Political Science Midterm

I was so relieved to get the political science midterm back.  I was checking for my grade on blackboard since tuesday.  I was scared when he said that that the class average was low and started to doubt that I might have done good.  I wish I would’ve gotten in the 90’s but I’m ok with 80’s.  I was also relieved to hand in the last paper for that class.  They’re not hard to write but I get so lazy when it comes to starting a paper and handing it in was awesome.

(By the way, the music quiz grades are up too, if you want to see your grades)

Pursuing your Passion workshop

Last week I attended my career planning workshop and it was aimed at helping you understand a little more about your interest to guide you in choosing a major. It honestly confused me even more about what I wanted to do. They present you with a hexagon where each side represents different types of people; realistic, artistic, conventionalist, etc. For each individual it gives you  a list of possible major and professions. I could’ve chosen 3 and they were pretty distinct which made me wonder even more about exactly what I want to do. However the positive aspect of the workshop was that it showed how certain majors can branch out into different professions, so that made me feel a little more assure that even if i don’t exactly end up liking something, I can go onto another job with my degree.

To Be Slim is the Law! (Japan)

Wow what a coincidence! Look what I found…

Article – http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/japan/091109/fat-japan-youre-breaking-the-law

Video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1hqHo6lyUU

Japan has set a limit on how obese their employees can be due to the fact that citizens have been getting “bigger”. Now we all know the majority of japanese people are not…that big but apparently bigger is no good to the Japanese Government. As the video says, the invasion of Mcdonalds introduced a new diet on fast food…compared to the typical Japanese meal which has only around 600 calories…a Mcdonald’s meal consist of calories twice as much. Such a coincidence after reading chapter 10 of Fast Food Nation ahahaha. But yeah companies are encouraged to slim down their employees or the company will have invest more into a health care program. In my opinion, this is a great move by the Japanese government. By doing this, more citizens will be fit and the government will save money due to less obesity-related health care problems. I’m looking forward to see how this goes.

So what do you guys think of this? Would it work in America? I mean like…if this was established right now in America, SOOOOO many companies and employees would break the law….

“Japanese lawmakers last year set a maximum waistline size for anyone age 40 and older: 85 centimeters (33.5 inches) for men and 90 centimeters (35.4 inches) for women”

Stress workshop

The stress workshop we went to this Tuesday was just weird. I mean it was real out there right from the start. The dude had us feel up on the raisin and then tasting it(which I didn’t of course). I mean that’s a bit much for a workshop, don’t you think? Plus that audio tape we listened to was just plain funny. I almost burst out laughing but held it back out of the respect for those two guys that were doing the workshop. I am glad I got through with it though, since now iam done with all my workshops. Woot!

Photography Club

After a late start in the semester, the Photography Club finally got going. Even though I’m no pro, its been interesting thus far. After all, none of us are experts. It has just been good to learn from peers.

Well I picked up a DSLR camera, finally!

Last Saturday, we went out to High Line Park on Manhattan’s West Side to do what we do, take photos. I gotta say, I’m enjoying it.

I liked these in particular. So yea, I enjoy this club. How about you guys? Anyone joined a club they like to share? Comment.

If anyone else in interested in photography, (even if you have no experience, we are all learning), come to the next meeting on Tuesday at 1 PM in Room 12-135 VC

Impression Management workshop

This workshop is about impressions you give in college. It talks about how people look at you and judge you by the way you dress, talk, make eye contact, walk, etc. It advises students to be on time for classes and be respectful. It also advises students to have as high GPA as you can because after you graduate and start looking for a job, employers take a good look on your GPA before hiring you. I advise you guys to attend this workshop because it’s only for an hour and the speaker is actually funny and makes jokes while presenting.

The next Impression Management workshop is on Nov 24, tuesday. though you have to register first. It counts as your “Career Exploration” required workshop. 🙂
