Amy Xu NYTimes Blog Post #2

Having always been scared of public speaking, I was anxious the days leading up to the presentation. Surprisingly, it came natural when I was in front of the class. Our process of sharing our project was straightforward and informative. We stressed the critical points and related all the articles to our theme. I learned that I have to work on my presentation skills; I tend to speak too quickly. Watching my classmates present was not only a learning experience but also entertaining. I was able to learn more about the person through their communication styles. Students who I originally viewed as shy were impressive skilled speakers. I was able to learn more about what topics my peers were interested in. I got the opportunity to learn about how twitter was doing financially, about devoted young girls in third world countries and how kosher marshmallows are produced.

Amy Xu NYTimes Article #1, Who Made That Marshmallow?

Ever wonder what makes marshmallows so fluffy and voluminous? After mixing the ingredients of sugar, starch and gelatin, the candy is heated at 241F. Next the gooey mixture is forced into a tube where it will begin to form its shape; when the candy is in cylindrical form it is then cut into the perfect bite size pieces. At this point, the candy is delicious, but still not at its fluffy size yet. Finally air is being pumped into the marshmallow giving its soft fluffy texture.

Regularly marshmallows are made with beef gelatin, but when kosher marshmallows became a demand fish gelatin was used instead. Surprisingly, kosher marshmallows are not made in the US because all US factories refuse to work with fish gelatin. Therefore, factories that produce kosher marshmallows are built in Israel.
The world of kosher marshmallows has new ideas that will not only attract more children, but even adults. They are introducing marshmallows that come in a variety of shapes; even marshmallows in a twisted form. In addition, marshmallows will come in new drooling flavors such as pretzels and beer, turkey gravy, margarita, salty watermelon.

As cliché as it sounds, I love chick flicks. I love every fragment of a chick flick; I love the handsome and humorous male characters, the romantic gestures, the happy ever afters, the pretty women, the emotional break downs and even the predictable endings. My absolute favorite tear jerker is 50 First Dates. Adam Sandler plays the role of the most perfect man, all us girls fantasize about. Although I adore Adam Sandler’s charming character in 50 First Dates, the bold and manly features of Wolverine is irresistible. No girl can complain having a Hugh Jackman beside them. Who I love more than Wolverine are my babies. Charlotte, Perry and Mila (left to right) are the three most intelligent, sweet, kind and funny little animals ever. They know a variety of tricks which include, play dead, roll over, high five, dance, crawl, kiss and speak on command.

What I look forward to most every summer is tanning; never tan enough!  Others may think applying makeup daily is a drag and a chore but, I enjoy every second of it. I love pampering myself and attempting to look presentable.

Adding cheese to my meal makes it all the more enjoyable. I love the texture of cheese, the creaminess and the cheesy flavor. I have no self-control when it comes to gouda, parmesan and provolone cheese.

My favorite candy is the ever so sweet candy corn.

The 4 ½ inch scar across my lower neck, between my collar bones was due to a thyroidectomy. I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease September 2011, March 25, 2013 my thyroid gland was surgically removed.
