In my first three months of Baruch, one of my main challenges, was to find a balance between friends, family and grades. It’s been hard to learn how to manage everything when the workload is so different from my high school workload. Another challenge that I’ve faced, is being around so many business oriented people when I recently found that I would rather go into the science field. I felt like I never completely fit in because the mind frames of many of Baruch students is centered around business and money and I don’t really relate to those types of priorities.

Otherwise, Baruch has been really fun so far. One of my favorite things, was going to school in the city because it is so conveniently located. You can find everything within a small radius.

To me, the enrichment workshop, explored the need for leadership and how it provokes action. Acts of leadership can bring about significant change. Like many, there are many things that I am dissatisfied with in my life, and even in the world. To bring about change to these dissatisfactions, leadership is required. To me, the workshop, emphasized how we must all take up leadership roles and help bring about positive change.

Leadership can start anywhere and the enrichment workshop elaborated on how involvement in extracurricular activities is a great way to start.

1. What was the “theme” your group selected for your front page, and how did you select it? How did the articles you selected fit within that theme?

1. My group’s theme was food. We chose food by thinking about what each group member loves: food! The articles we selected fit within our theme because they were all related to some sort of food or restaurant.

2. What was your individual role in the group process working on the NYT project?

My role in the NYT project, was write a local story on food so I based my article on a local restaurant.

3. How has your experience within this project influenced your understanding of “news literacy”?Provide a link to your NYT Front Page Project.

My experience within this project influenced my understanding of news literacy by helping me better understand how important it is to keep up with the news on a daily basis.

Elephants are one of my favorite animals. They always exude a wise, serene and gentle essence. Their strength and social capability is something I admire. The collaboration of all these attributes into one animal, creates an admirability.

Makeup is also something that I admire and respect. The artistry and transformation involved in the makeup industry is something that has always awed me. Whether enhancing beauty, portraying a character, or just expressing an idea, there is always an aspect of transformation in makeup.

Possibilities and fantasies broaden our world so much. I really like the idea of supernatural discoveries waiting to be uncovered. Even if they are never uncovered, having the belief and imagination to broaden my world, is something very important to me.

Being a Vegan is a big part of my life. Besides feeling healthier and more energized, it also greatly attributes to my moral standing.

Friends and family are also a very important part of my life. My friends and family are the people I trust, love and respect. If I did not have them, I would not have been able to become the person I am today.

Like many from my generation, technology has also been a key element in the shaping of my life. Growing up with technology as a source of information, social connections and amusement, technology has become something I depend upon daily.

Having been born and raised in New York City, it has shaped who I am. The exposure to diversity in people, foods, ideas, and lifestyles has molded my own ideas and perceptions of life.

Like most of society, media has greatly shaped my perception of the world.
