NO-CARD

Penn station during rush hour.

My first semester at college has been extremely stressful. Spending most of my day walking to and from Penn Station, riding the Long Island Railroad, and sitting around in between classes. I ended up spending more time for the commute and doing nothing during breaks than I even spent in class. Penn Station is the worst on fridays. It is completely overcrowded with people rudely pushing walking into me like im not even there. Especially since I get out around rush hour. The best part is I didn’t realize how motion sickness I get on trains. Waking up at least two and a half hours before class in order to make it on time is much more difficult than I had thought. And I have become basically dependent on coffee. I really hope next semester I will be able to make my classes closer together or find a way to have a three day week, which I know will be near impossible.

Although transitioning to college in the city has been tough, I am very glad I picked Baruch in the end. So far I like most of my professors and the people I have met are intellegent and nice.

Enrichment Workshop

The enrichment workshop turned out to be more helpful than I expected. Like most of baruch students, I commute to school every day. After being in class until 4:30 or 5:30, I’m ready to just go home and go to bed. The last thing I want to do is make it so I get home even later. Athough, the speakers opened my eyes to the importance of being involved with my school. They also described some different clubs around Baruch College and how they can help students learn leadership skills. I do not intend to join a club this year, I would prefer to get accustomed to college and the commute first. Hopefully next year my schedule will allow me more free time and I will have time to join a club.

Laura: NY Times, questions

1. The theme we selected for our presentation was smartphones. It is an easily universible and broad enough topic that it was fairly easy to find articles related to it. Our articles ranged from local to global issues, including: addiction, applications, recycling and the cell phones results or effects in other countries.
2. My role for the project was the bearcat post.
3. I do not believe that this project has had much influence on my understanding of “news literature.” I often read the newspaper during down time.

7. Jamaica

I go to Jamaica every summer. It is my favorite place in the entire world. It’s the one place that I have no stress or worries. I just get to relax.

8. The Woods

I really enjoy taking walks in the woods. It’s just beautiful and quiet.
