My college experience so far has been more of a bland time. When coming to college, I felt as if I would be enjoying myself since I would have a handful of things to do. In reality, life at Baruch was just come, go to class, and then go home. I never really got involved when I started off. I started to join clubs as well as finding things to do during my break and found myself enjoying life at Baruch just a bit more. I have many plans for the future at Baruch and intend to act on them by the time the second semester comes. My expectations when coming to Baruch were completely different than what I had experienced. I’ve met new faces and have seen the passion that the professors at this school have in the work they do. I did experience some sort of culture shock from high school to college but it was a positive shock that I was looking forward to. Sometimes I feel as if Baruch is the place to be and there are times I feel the exact opposite. Only time can tell what Baruch has in store for me.

Third Post: Enrichment Workshop

The enrichment workshop was inspiring to me to join organizations and clubs within the school. I had listened to the experiences of the speakers up front and had been urged to join clubs and get involved in my school. They told us stories about how they had been going in and out of Baruch College every day during their freshman year feeling like they weren’t a part of anything. They also stated how they did not feel like they were getting the college experience that we all see on TV. Ever since I started going to Baruch, I’ve felt the same way. But recently, before the workshop, I have joined one club which I feel can offer me some sort of the experience I’ve been looking for. I didn’t really need the workshop much to convince me to get involved. I plan on getting involved a lot more. Right now I’m just trying to get used to the workload and my time-management. Next semester I’ll get involved with about 2-3 clubs/organizations including the current one and see how that plays out.

New York Times Project

1.What was the “theme” your group selected for your front page, and how did you select it? How did the articles you selected fit within that theme?

The theme my group had chosen was food. We came to select food because it is one of the most general topics and everyone all over the world can relate to it. The articles all had to do with food on levels that were given to us. Ex: Global, local

2. What was your individual role in the group process working on the NYT project?

I had been an administrator just like everyone else. One person needed to do two articles since we needed six and there were only five of us. So I had volunteered to do two “national” article posts.

3. How has your experience within this project influenced your understanding of “news literacy”?
Provide a link to your NYT Front Page Project.

I had enjoyed the project with my group and it led me to not only do the project itself but explore the New York Times websites and update myself on the latest news and I came to realize just how relevant it is to us college students.

The eight image slide show describes who I am. I’m a very quiet person and I always have been when I’m around people I don’t know that well. It takes me longer than most people to start talking but when I do I’ve been told I’m an awesome person to be around. My favorite show at the moment is Game of Thrones. Based on the Fire and Ice book series by George R. R. Martin. It’s only been out for a couple of years but has grown a large fan base ever since it’s premiere around the world. I’ve posted a photo of the Vertical Campus of Baruch College, because for the next four to five years I’ll be spending my time studying as a Finance Major. School has always been important to me and College was never an option. It was something I always knew I had to do… something I was going to do no matter what. The picture of the laptop and phones is because I rely a lot of the two devices. Without them I wouldn’t be able to get much done or keep in contact with people. I’m a very big movie buff, I just love watching movies of any type, old or new. Just like everyone else, I LOVE food. I try out different things all the time. Family and friends are my number one priority. Without either, life is meaningless. You can have all the money but can’t live a happy life with people around you that you care about that care about you. And last but not least, I’m a BIG BIG BIG adrenaline junkie. I like living life on the edge, my mom get’s scared when I tell her the things that are on my list to do. I love roller coasters, or anything that gets your blood pumping. This summer I checked the first thing off my bucket list, Skydiving. Next is bungee jumping… And no I’m not kidding.
