NO-CARD

Post 4 Julian Niemetz

Baruch has become a very big part of my life, despite me only been here for less than 3 months. These past few months have gone really quickly, and they have been a lot better than I expected. All of my classes and professors have caught my interest, I actually enjoy doing the homework and readings because it is all very thought provoking and nothing like high school. Even though I plan on studying accounting and I am not taking any business classes and I am taking mainly liberal arts classes, which is not my strong suit, they have all been really great though. All of my professors are deeply invested in what they are teaching and have been extremely helpful when I do not understand something. I thought that since I am a commuter I would immediately go home after class but I actually stay at the library and do my work there. The library is one of the best resources, since so many people are doing work it motivates myself to study. I do not mind spending a few Sundays at the library during the midterm season. Even though I have not joined any clubs yet, I am looking forward to joining clubs next semester and get more involved.

Enrichment Workshop

I thought that the enrichment workshop was very interesting, the people who presented did a very good job of giving unique examples of leaders, such as Abraham Lincoln and the architects of the Brooklyn Bridge.  Before the workshop I had a pretty clear idea of what a leader is, however after the workshop this idea was even more clear. It was a very engaging workshop in which they asked us (the audience) questions. The panel of the five leaders from their respective clubs put in great insight on life at Baruch.  The most important thing that they said is that your experience at Baruch is what you make of it.

Being a Freshman, I have not been really involved with Baruch. I have signed up to receive newsletters from clubs but I have yet to go to any of their meetings. I plan to go to one club meeting before the semester ends. This workshop inspired me to join clubs for next semester, I will be more open to trying them out since I feel that I have learned a lot about Baruch this semester.  Perhaps, I will join a Fraternity next semester or at least attend one of their meetings.

1. What was the “theme” your group selected for your front page, and how did you select it? How did the articles you selected fit within that theme?

The theme of our front page was food. We selected it because it is a topic that is very relevant and the New York Times has its own Dining section. We all chose articles from the required categories that somehow revolved around food.

2. What was your individual role in the group process working on the NYT project?

My task in the group process was to summarize an article about food in New York City. I chose the article about Balthazar as it was only published a few days ago and it is one of New York’s most famous restaurants.

3. How has your experience within this project influenced your understanding of “news literacy”?

This experience has taught me that reading the news is not only important but  it has many interesting topics for almost anyone.

Arsenal are my favorite soccer team and they have been since I was a little kid because  they are my dad’s favorite team. When I was young they were the always the best  team in England, they haven’t been nearly as good in the past nine or so years but I will always stay loyal and never change teams.

The Rolling Stones are one of my favorite bands and they have been since my older sister became obsessed with them when I was about 10 years old.  My favorite album is Exile on Main Street  because it is their most diverse and fun album.

I love all types of dogs but French Bulldogs are my favorite! I have a French Bulldog named Jazzy, who is three years old.

My favorite TV show is Mad Men because it takes place during a very interesting decade the 1960’s. The show revolves around advertising executives and during this time consumerism had a large impact on our culture and still does today.

My favorite food is Thai food because I love the flavors of the fresh ingredients they commonly use in their cooking, such as limes, chili peppers, and lemongrass. I also work at a Thai restaurant called Lovely Day.

I follow both NFL and College Football but for whatever reason I have always liked College Football more. On Saturdays when am ever I am not working I try to watch as many games as possible.

Kendrick Lamar is one of my favorite rappers of all time, his music is really different from other rap artists and I think in the future more rappers will try and sound like him.

Even though I don’t really play Xbox anymore, it had a large impact on my life when I was in Middle School and High School I would play countless hours of GTA and Fifa.
