Meme: Vincent Grieco

This meme relates to me because of my Math Professor. Now it is policy that if your professor is more than 15 minutes late you can assume class is cancelled and you are allowed to leave without penalty. I feel this can relate to my college experience because people always want to go home and not have to go to class. As the hope builds up that today just may be the day where he stops to tie his shoe or drops his books and is finally late for that last minute. But just like clockwork he ALWAYS shows up at 14 minutes late and never 15 minutes and you hear the gasp and energy drain out of the class as he walks through the door. Maybe today he might stop for a coffee and finally miss the class.

Vincent Grieco: Enrichment Workshop

The enrichment workshop was helpful to me because it illustrated the benefits of joining clubs. I feel that immersing ones’ self in Baruch’s diverse and rich culture can provide a student with a self of fulfillment and well being. I for one do not plan to join any clubs at the moment due to the fact that I commute to and from school every day and want to focus on my school work. I do not want to overwhelm myself with extracurricular activities which could possibly result in a decrease in my grades. Also when I get out of school at 4:30pm I must start a long and tedious commute back home. So for one thing I would not like to have to go to a club meeting or activity while I could be on the way home. Also if I shouldered anymore responsibility with school I would not be able to work my part-time job and support myself. That is why I feel an individual must first determine whether or not they are in a position to shoulder more responsibility  before making such a large commitment to a club.

Vincent Grieco: New York Times Quesitons

1.    What was the “theme” your group selected for your front page, and how did you select it? How did the articles you selected fit within that theme?

The theme my group selected for our front page was Sports; we selected it because we are red blooded American males who love watching sports. The articles I selected fit into our theme because the Giants are an American Football team based in New York City. Also Collegiate Athletics are a billion dollar industry in the United States and its players deserve to be paid.

2.    What was your individual role in the group process working on the NYT project?

My role was the administrator who had to setup our website for the blog. I also had to add our group members to the blog so that they could post their articles. I also assisted one of my team members in posting their articles.

3.    How has your experience within this project influenced your understanding of “news literacy”?

This project has influenced my understanding of “news literacy” because it has given me insight to how important it is to stay informed about local stories and issues which can have an impact on you and your environment.

Vincent Grieco: Music Playlist

The genres of music I like to listen are hip-hop and rap. The first rap artist whoi remember listening too religiously was Eminem. To me he was the epitome of rap and had very good music. It wasn’t only just the beats and flow to his songs but the lyrics which truly captivated my attention. Fans of his work would agree that his best work was his early songs which included some of his darker more explicit tracks. His songs were not only a form of expression but it was a story that he would tell which a little piece of his life was. Being given this insight into his own personal struggles and life made me feel close to him as artists who only made me appreciate his music that much more.

Growing up in New York City has always left me a soft spot for hip-hop. The type of songs which I like is those that tell a story of early struggles and later success. I am a very ambitious person so hearing these lyrics about artists who started from nothing and gradually ascended to super stardom gives me inspiration for future endeavors. Some of the hip-hop artists that I enjoy listening to are Drake, Big Sean, and Kayne West. These artists are also masters of word play and rhyming, so good in fact sometimes I see myself replaying verses and marveling at their puns. The most recent album I have been listening to is Drake’s “Nothing was the Same”, I enjoy this album due to that fact that these songs pay tribute to his early beginning and struggles.
