I Can Be Appreciative.

I love art and all things aesthetically pleasing, but tend to enjoy more intense work like Salvador Dali, art that makes you think. I like touring museums every now and then, but having us attend one outside of class made the experience more of an inconvenience. I think I would have been able to take the time and enjoy it instead worrying about the time if it had been apart of class hours.

A Little Frantic.

I have to admit the first few months were a little hectic for me. Trying to juggle class and a full-time job has been a little difficult. Our pre-cal course demanded way more time outside of class than I had. I felt a bit stuck, traffic jam stuck. Like I was taking on more than I could handle. But it’s about making sure to make class my first priority and learning how to efficiently manage my time.

Bearcat Post #2

For the second bearcat event posting i decided to choose the Bearcat soccer game i attended earlier this semester. I attended the first playoff game versus Hunter. It was the first Baruch soccer game I attended, and i was very impressed by the skill within the team. I have played soccer for most of my life, and seeing the game made me regret not trying out for the soccer team over summer. However what it did do was motivate me to tryout next year. I was very happy that Baruch did win, since i know a few people who go to Hunter. I was also happy to see a few familiar faces paying on the team and representing the school. I enjoy attending a school with good sports teams because it allows students who aren’t on any particular teams to enjoy going to games. Moreover it also improves their dedication and general support of the schools community.

Bearcat Post #1

I attended the Theresa Bernstein gallery at the Sidney Mishkin art gallery earlier this month. I thought the gallery was very remarkable and showed a lot of difference in art throughout time. The name of the gallery, “A Century In Art Exhibition” was very literate. I enjoyed how the exhibition displayed art throughout the past century. Having such a dynamic and diverse selection of artwork not only made me take note of how art has changed, but also how society has impacted art to change. I have always been a fond admirer of art, and i thought this gallery was a lot more complete as opposed to the photography gallery we attended earlier in the semester. Though the photographs were quite dissimilar, there was not a large gap in time between the photographs like i noticed in Bernstein’s gallery.

Enrichment Workshop

The enrichment workshop I attended a few months ago has had a slight impact on my appreciation of art in general.  While I am not an avid fan of photography, this exhibit did stand out to me.  The fact that most (if not all) of the photos, or maybe just the ones I remember were all monochrome.  This has made me realize that you do not necessarily need to depict something with color, as is the case with most artwork.  In fact the lack of color creates a much somber tone, which conveys much more emotion compared to a regular photograph.  Being black and white also removes any possible distracts, leaving you to look at what the photographer intended.

Final Blog Post

I did not attend the Enrichment Workshop so my final blog post is a Bearcat Post.

Enriching my cultural horizons, i attended the Bollwood Jalwa, Pakistani Students Association (PSA), and the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) ‘s Desi Thumka event. Before going, i wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew that there would be a belly dancer, and that there would probably be Indian music, but i had never been to an event like this before so i was excited to experience something knew. There was indian food and indian music, as well as an Indian musician that played when the belly dancer wasn’t dancing. I learned a lot about how the dancing styles differ when dancing to Indian music and it was really fun to do something different. The food and music were also really enjoyable. I got to meet new people and learn new ways to dance and i found it to be a really rewarding experience. Attending Desi made me want to go to more events like it because it was a fun and interesting new cultural experience.

I thought the enrichment workshop was interesting. I thought  the set itself was very unique and well thought out. The lady who presented it did a good job in doing so however at times I feel like she dragged it out a little too much. At times the workshop seemed a little boring since the presenter was being fairly repetitive and monotone. For the future I would prefer changing the topic of workshops to maybe sports or something else other than I did find the art interesting however the form it was presented to us it’s came off as boring.

Art – An Insightful Expression

Art is a form of expression used to portray ones feelings and share it through beauty and hidden meanings.  During our tour of the art gallery for our enrichment workshop, my mind was constantly wondering the meaning of these works of art.  Being curious, I asked the tour guide to give his point of view and then I asked for the actual depiction and meaning of the work.  What I realized is that it can be perceived in many different of way based of who is examining it and the way they examine it.  It is amazing how an artwork can have so much meaning.  As they say “A picture is worth a thousand words“.  Through some works of art I was able to understand the time period it portrayed, as if I were there.  The emotions and meanings in art is powerful when closely examining it.  I wouldn’t mind staring at a portrait for hours and feeling as if I were watching a film.  Just as pictures which store memories, paintings have a similar purpose.  These works of art stimulated my mind while I was there and is a good form of seeing things through a different perspective.  Many people look at things in one way, some conform to others beliefs and some to society.  Through developing different perspectives one can see the world in many different ways and not one-sided.  The word is a beautiful place and these works of art establish such meaning.  In art there are many different forms and techniques used in order to portray several meanings.  The use of tone, shadow and other devices all serve a purpose of task.  Personally my favorite is when their are two different ideas contrasted in a piece of work, in other words, the element of juxtaposition is used.  It shows the difference between two ideas.  Through art work many people can learn about the history of ones society, country and the world.  Art has a tendency of changing and evolving.  The more modern forms of art I have noticed is the abstract form.  To some a painting may look as a splatter of random paint on a canvas, while to others it is an insightful expression.

Final Post

Agreeing with the majority, I feel that the enrichment workshop was extremely boring and a waste of my time. I learned nothing and it was depressing in there. Having taken AP art history, I’ve been to many art museums and none of them were as boring as this one. I appreciate all forms of art and I do like photography, but this display lacked diversity and attraction. Everything was so black and white and bleh. Nothing really stood out to me and everything looked pretty similar.

Final post

Well first of all the enrichment work shop was just like a requirement for the class iam sure most of us would not have attended if it was not required 😛  The worst part was that it was not during class time so its was a extra waste of time >.> and to top it off it was at a art gallery so it was like what are we doing there lol . In the end it was just well like i said before a waste of time 😮
