NY Times Team Sosa

My group decided to choose a topic relating to the financial issues in the United States and in the world. The group selected articles that related with finance within certain companies and finance in the world in general. There are so many things going on in the world that relates to finance so we felt that it would be an easy topic to find articles on. These articles were  helpful because I had very little knowledge in finance prior to this assignment.

Second Blog Post – NY Times

My group, Hiipower, chose violence as our theme of the year because it is an extremely serious issue occurring domestically and globally. There have been several important events this year that impact the lives of thousands of people, which is why we found this topic so compelling. I wrote my blog post about the situation in Syria, which has been a hot topic in the news. One article that I read stated that Syria’s first reaction to the aggressiveness of the United States was reluctant until Obama threatened to launch missiles if they did not cooperate. This shows that if Syria does not continue to cooperate, the United States may become involved in another war. If this were to happen, everyone’s lives in the U.S. could potentially be in danger.

My group decided to choose our subject regarding the financial standings in the world that are currently taking place. There is so many things that finance can tell about how an individual is doing or even how well the economy of the is doing. Picking this topic was to our advantage because it allowed us to explore in fields that we may encounter as Baruch students. Since Baruch College is a business school, Finance was a topic that many students can relate to. This topic interested us the most because we believe that it’s never too early to explore!  In other words, by starting off with a finance topic, we were able to learn about certain economic issues facing the United States and the rest of the world!

2nd Blog- NY Times Project

My group, HiiPower chose to cover articles relating to violence because this year, there has been many tragic events relating to weapons and terror occurring worldwide. This is an important topic because due to unnecessary violence, thousands of people have died in both the U.S. and overseas. Access to weapons and gun control laws have become a huge issue recently and new legislation might be imposed because of safety concerns. People should be aware of changes that might be made because it may affect their personal rights. Baruch is a school with a diverse student population, where students are from all different backgrounds. However, violence is a widespread problem that concerns everyone so it’s important to be informed about these situations on a global scale.

Group Just Do It decided that sports will be a good topic to write about. Students in Baruch can join several different types of sports and as a freshman, it’s a great way to get involved in school. Sports are a great way to obtain exercise to stay healthy while doing something that is fun. It is also an important aspect of life because in order to win a game, you must learn to adjust to your team members’ ways of playing and be able to have great chemistry as well as teamwork. In addition to teamwork, sports teaches you the discipline of practices and how it is important to train and make your skills better. Even if you lose a game, it will teach you a valuable lesson on how to improve next game. Sports is a physical activity that many enjoy playing but it also plays a role in academic learning because through sports you can have hands-on experience of learning things that books may not teach you.

We decided to do food as our topic because food is an essential part of life. Every aspect of life connects to food in a way. We felt that it is important to know about what is happening to our food supply and the current food issues at hand. Since it is our first semester, our group decided that it is important to know where to get free food at Baruch. Viva La Vida is one of the many club events at Baruch which include free food and we thought it would be good to let everyone know about it. Baruch is a very diverse school and so our blog reflects that by having a variety of different food articles.

We chose to do music as our topic because everyone listens to music. Music is something that is part of our everyday lives, even if we do not notice it. Music is just as important as conflicts happening in the United States or in other countries. Music is what brings people and cultures together and unite them as one. Music to other people may not seem important but it really is. Many important people have had music impact their lives. They played musical instruments before they held important positions in the government or in big corporations. Here in the US the first program to be cut of from schools is music. Blogging about music was something that my group wanted to do. Many students find music as an escape and develop a great talent for it. It is really important to think that something small as music can impact the way people think and act in the world.

Our group decided to pick food as our overall topic since we all thought food was a relevant issue regarding Baruch. Everyone needs food, clearly, and this year everyone is getting used to their new surroundings. We thought that food was an important issue for everyone in their new semester at Baruch since there are so many food places around school. Another factor in deciding food, was that there are so many different people with a very different take on food, therefore we decided to find a variety in the articles we selected.
