Go To Sleep

Every single morning

When I first started college a few months ago my expectation was that the workload would be very difficult.  I’m not saying that the amount of work is easy, but it is nothing to write home about.  However the work is very time consuming, much more so than I had expected.  Throughout high school I always did the bare minimum amount of work to get by.  Sure I could have done all the homework, but why would I when I could receive an acceptable grade without the effort?  However now that I’m in college I am constantly striving to do better and get higher marks on all my assignments.  In order to do this I must be able to sacrifice a lot of time, not only time spent with friends but also time spent sleeping?  Is it a good trade in my opinion?  No.  But I have to deal with it regardless.  I’m never so tired that I am unable to function, but there are many times in the afternoon when I feel like I could use a few extra hours of sleep.  Unfortunately this isn’t always possible.

Post 3 Experiences

The first three months at Baruch made me miss sleeping. I usually don’t get any sleep the night before an exam because I am up frantically studying, trying to memorize and understand everything. Writing all those papers take me forever and by the time I finish, it’s already around 4am. I can’t blame my lack of sleep entirely on Baruch though because I also have to work after class and on weekends. Although I have been stressed and missing precious hours of sleep, Baruch has given me many opportunities to meet different people and make new friends. Overall, the first three months were pretty good other than the fact that I have no time to sleep.

A Rollercoaster of Indiscriminate Compassion – David Zahl

My experience at Baruch had been like a roller coaster filled with up and downs. I have many highs, but I’ve also had a couple of lows. I started off the year doing the same thing I did in high school and saving all my work for last minute but I learned early on that I was going to do as well as i wanted if i kept doing that. With the new approach of not saving all my work for last minute and not procrastinating until the last possible second, Ive seen my grades go up. Time management has been the most important thing that i have learned so far here at Baruch. I’ve made a lot of new friends so far on my journey and i plan to make many more. At this point of the ride I am on way up and enjoying the ride.

So far, my experience at Baruch hasn’t been much of a change from my high school, so it was easy to adjust to. However, I enjoy the short days, the freedom to pick classes and the independence that comes along with going to college. With my three months of going to Baruch, I can tell that it has a lot to offer. There are many opportunities available for students to try and better themselves, something I really appreciate. I like all the clubs and school activities always going on because it shows the diversity and school pride at Baruch. I’m most looking forward to taking classes I have an interest in and finding something I really enjoy doing. The GIF I chose represents my start of the semester and what I think the end of it will be like. The beginning of the school year went by very smoothly and quickly for me. With upcoming finals though, I think I’ll have trouble managing my time to study for all my classes. The finals are the hardest part because students are forced to remember everything they learned, so the end of the year will definitely not be enjoyable for me.

New Experiences

This picture depicts my journey from the airport to Manhattan for the first time ever. Being this college experience is completely new to me and is understandably the same for my peers, I somewhat feel more bedazzled however as it is something I have never even imagined being a part of. My first 3 months in Baruch have been fairly manageable. This road leading to one of the most majestic cities in the world can compare to many experiences I have had in the past months such as the journey I have been on with the Baruch Soccer team. I sprained my ankle at the early stages of the season, which was a setback. This meant I had to sit out a number of games. However, I managed to regain my match fitness and helped the team go unbeaten in the conference and amazingly win the CUNYAC Championship Final. This personally equates to stepping into NYC for the first time. All the studying I have done also conveys the journey, and my goal is to reach great heights academically and athletically. If I carry on with this willingness to succeed, I will feel like I am on a road that leads to an amazing place.

My Golden Experience

I would describe my Baruch experience so far as being golden!  This can all be seen through several accomplishments such as: getting good grades in my classes, getting to know my fellow peers, being a member of several clubs, being offered internships, and most recent of all… providing the game winning assist in overtime to lead Baruch Men’s Soccer team to the 2013 Championship!  Being mid way though my first semester in Baruch College, i feel the possibilities are limitless.  With all I was able to accomplish in this time period, my future accomplishments seem endless.  I would have to credit my smooth transition due to my fellow teammates on the Baruch soccer team.  My college experience started before the first day of classes, it started in preseason on the soccer pitch.  Knowing the right people and having the right amount of good friends can be a determinate factor in ones college experience, luckily enough I was able to meet the right people.  All my classes have been with my good old friend from my High School, Nishant Shah, as well as my fellow teammate, Mohammed Alma.

So im supposed to pick a picture that describes my experience at Baruch thus far. Well as you can see above, i chose a roller coaster, not because Baruch is an amusement park but because i have had multiple feelings about it. well the thing i love about Baruch is that it is close to my home and the commute is fairly easy. The bad is that there is no campus because it is located in the city. Also academically i have done very well and i have messed up, more towards the good but there has been a drastic drop in a couple of my grades. i was riding the roller coaster on the high in the beginning and i experienced a sudden drop when i was in my business class. i threw up when i saw my grade but regained my composure when i took another math test and got my english paper so i am currently back on the rise and i hope to stay on the up and up. i have experienced good and bad friends and this trend continues. The good always comes with the bad, this ying yang logic has become my experience. I would prefer only the good, but im no fool and know that the world is a terrible place and i should feel grateful that im having any good feelings, so i will stay optimistic throughout my years and hope that good is coming, not winter. So i want to continue my ride uphill and eventually maintain a slope of zero.

Insight at Baruch!

The reason why I picked this photo is because the first thing about Baruch that caught my eye was the diversity of not only the people but also the opportunities. This is represented by the intense colors surrounding the eye. Baruch has such a large variety of opportunities to help their students grow and experience new things. The number of clubs available is exceedingly amazing, each offerring a different color of life to satisfy the individual interests of the students. On top of this, there are study abroad and internship opportunities that allow students to gain skills and have exposure to the real world. All of these things add color to Baruch, allowing it to overflow with variety and knowledgeablity. The picture of the eye also includes the pupil to be extremely colorful as well. This represents how I intend to grasp as much of these available experiences to broaden my horizons. With so much offered at Baruch, I don’t intend to waste any of my time while I am a student here. Instead, I hope to learn as much as possible in order to gain insight for the future.

My group, Here Comes Treble, choose to do our blog post about music. We chose music because its something that is in everyone’s life. Music is in everyone’s life all over the world. When we came up with our name we thought it would be funny to make it a play in words, that why we decided on “Here comes the treble.” Music is found all over the world. The articles I choose dealt with a legend in music, Bob Dylan, and why people enjoy music and how it affects their brains. Reading these articles about music was actually very interesting. I learned a lot about music, from the articles I chose and from the articles my group members chose.
