Peter Lewicki- Blog Post 3

So my first few weeks at Baruch seemed rather easy because there were no tests. Later when I started getting tests from every class at the same time, it got a little hectic. My first test was in calculus though and I wasn’t too worried about it. I ended up not studying and made some stupid mistakes on the test that I knew I shouldn’t have. In almost all my classes, with an exception of philosophy, I did pretty well on all my tests. I didn’t like that. It makes me think i’ll do just as well on the next test and if anything, make me study even less. Teachers shouldn’t make tests purposely easy and then make them harder as the semester progresses. Once I do well on the first test, I study less for the second. If I do well on the next one too, I don’t study anymore. This shouldn’t be a problem if I enjoy the class but I think once I start more difficult and new classes next semester, it could be a potential problem. Overall though, the tests seem more rigorous in college then they were in high school and rarely any extra credit as well. But its a nice new learning experience.

NY Times Blog Post 2-Peter Lewicki

So my groups theme was American Achievements. We came up with this theme because achievements can be made on every level. Achievements occur when we as people change. We are always changing in our lives, especially now that we all started college. We come to college to achieve and strive for success. We all picked articles that were important in history or to ourselves. Then our group administrator, Tonia Mathew, put all our articles onto one page and made it look as incredible as it does.

A few of the achievements we decided to focus on were some of the important ones throughout history. We talked about the Civil Rights Act, the Rover on Mars, Women’s rights, walking on the moon for the first time and New York passing a law allowing gay people to marry.

The article I picked was the one with New York passing the legislation to allow gay marriage. I picked this article because it really was a big deal. New York is now the biggest state to allow gay marriage. It’s incredible how far we as people have come. That being said, upstate New York is very conservative so I was surprised to see that this law was not only passed in New York City, but also the whole state of New York. This shows how we can change as a society. Not all people accept gay marriage, but in 100 years from now, people will look back and think it was so stupid that we argued about this.

“How to Email a Professor” Assignment-Peter Lewicki

So here is the email I would sent and had to post here.

Hey Professor Bennett,

My name is Peter Lewicki and I’m in your Philosophy 1500 class on Fridays. As you noticed, I was absent for last weeks midterm. I was wondering if I would be able to make it up because I had caught the flu last Thursday and Friday it had gotten so terrible, that I had to be taken to the hospital. Thank you and I’ll see you next week.

So the songs that I have picked are a mix of how I felt coming to Baruch at first and then how it changed in the brief time I was here. I’ll briefly explain those songs too. Also some songs are on there just because they’re plain awesome and I’ve liked since I was really young.

  1. High School Never Ends – Bowling for Soup
  2. Whole New World – (Aladdin)
  3. Over My Head- Sum 41
  4. In Too Deep-  Sum 41
  5. 99 Problems- Jay Z
  6. I’m Still Here- John Rzeznik (Treasure Planet)
  7. Hakuna Matata- (Lion King )
  8. Go the Distance- (Hercules)
  9. 1985- Bowling For soup
  10. Save Tonight- Eagle-Eye Cherry
  11. Beautiful Soul- Jesse McCartney

That’s the list of songs that I posted up if you don’t use Spotify. So the first song is High School Never Ends by Bowling for Soup. The reason that’s on the list first is because I know so many people from my old high school ended up going to Baruch. There’s a hand full of us in our own block. The second song is Whole New World from Aladdin. Baruch is a completely new experience because although there are a lot of people I know that go here, I made a lot of new friends and some teachers treat you differently than they would in high school. The next two songs are Over My Head and In Too Deep by Sum 41. The reason I picked these two songs was because the amount of work that we received in college is more than we did in high school and was a bit over whelming at first. The next song is 99 problems cause it’s a good song and we all have our own things to do but not enough time to do it. Also #foreveralone :’(
Then I started thinking about it and realized I can do everything I have to. The song I’m Still Here is from the Disney movie Treasure Planet which, if you haven’t seen and have time, I recommend. The next song is Go the Distance from the movie Hercules. That is one of the best animated movies ever and it describes me because if I push myself, I can achieve anything I put my mind to. The next song is Hakuna Matata from The Lion King. That was a great song and describes me because although I said I have 99 problems before, I don’t worry about them too much and try to relax. The song 1985 is just a great song I remember from when I was really young and still like it to this day. I also like to live in the past through movies that I watched as a kid because I’m still a little kid on the inside and in this song, they’re preoccupied with 1985. The next song is Save Tonight by Eagle-Eye Cherry. It’s a great song to me, and I’ve also been listening to it since forever. I picked this song because you should always cherish the good times as they happen because eventually, they just become good memories. The last song is Beautiful Soul because that’s my favorite song to sing even though I sing horribly.
So I didn’t really talk about myself but my names Peter Lewicki and I am quiet but once you get to know me, I become annoying quick. I was born in raised in Brooklyn but moved to Queens in 2004 and lived there since. I love Disney movies if you can’t tell and watch them at least once a month now.
