The first three months of Baruch in my experience has been hectic and busy, as I had expected from college. As shown from the image, the past three months of Baruch have simply been a struggle to manage time correctly. With constant 10 hour work shifts nearly every day without school, it’s been a constant effort to catch up on previously assigned assignments due relatively soon. College in general has been continuous role conflicts attempting to balance my college assignments with everything else. The class work load at Baruch is similar to my high school, which unfortunately is not a good thing. Having had no time for clubs or other activities due to work and other priorities, Baruch has merely been a location to interact with friends during lunch and class and receive more assignments to do. My experience of Baruch has not changed at all from the beginning of the term due to how limited time I had to explore the college activities. Although I’m currently trying to change this current cycle, this effectively describes my first three months at school as of yet.

The picture is a meme including an unknown work space with the actor Maria von Trapp (acting as Maria Rainer) from the musical The Sound of Music. The image itself was taken from http://www.humorcraze.com/look-at-all-this-work-i-havent-done-yet/

Email a Professor- Doyun Kim

This is prompt number 1:

Subject Line: Inquiry about  Homework- Doyun Kim

Hello professor, this is Doyun Kim from your Speech Communications class. I am emailing you because I’m not sure how to complete the How-To speech introduction assigned to us on Friday. The instructions seem unclear and unfortunately I’m unable to understand what the assignment is asking. What sort of format should I use for the introductory paragraph?
Thank you.

Our group theme was “American Achievements”. We chose to use this as our theme for the New York Times front page to highlight the positive aspects of America in the midst of various hardships. Furthermore, we are all attempting to achieve a huge accomplishment, and doing this theme shows what we must strive for. Baruch College will be a stepping stone in helping us accomplish this goal, and we realized the importance our college careers will be onward for our lives.

The first article I chose to use was about the Curiosity Rover. I selected this because the space race America was undergoing finally showed signs of a lead for America. With America’s successful launch of the Curiosity Rover drone, they are now able to collect minerals and specimens from the planet Mars, which has never been done before. This relates back to me because it showed how technologically innovative America could be. It provides knowledge to me knowing that the country provides resources such that anyone could do anything if they aspired to.

The second article I chose was the Bearcat article about the opening of the East 25th Plaza last December. This was clearly important because of how convenient and helpful this release was to me, and many other Baruch students. I cannot imagine how the other students must have felt before the opening of the plaza. The library would be much more dangerous to go to, and many students would have no where to go to hang out. Being a freshman, I was unaware of these hardships, and am glad I am not going to.

These are eight images that I think depict who I am.

My name is Doyun Kim; the first picture I used was the South Korean flag to show my nationality. I enjoy Korea’s culture and food, and being Korean also impacts me in a big way. The next picture I used is my main hobby; I’m a horticulturist or essentially a fancy word for a gardener. This was also my favorite job, and was a very enjoyable experience for me. I also got to meet Mike Bloomberg through the experience and plant herbs with him which was also cool. The third picture is a guitar; specifically, the model I presently have. I enjoy music in general and still am trying to learn to play guitar, although I also have experience playing the trumpet and saxophone from middle and high school. The next picture with a random girl is from my program where I was a Japanese ambassador; Japanese foreign exchange students visited and I was able to guide them through NYC and made close friends there. I am still a pen pal to the girl shown and it definitely impacted me in a huge way. It was there that I also got submerged into Japanese culture (and the next picture, showing sushi, my favorite food). The next picture is because I’m pretty geeky and play lots of video games and watch movies; it’s a picture of one of the more popular games I play. The two final pictures are to show that I like animals of all variety; the Bronx Zoo is probably my favorite place to go to in New York City. The last picture is my pet cat, Melody, who pesters me to this day.
