Blog Post 3- College So Far

College so far has been a little less than what I expected. I thought the classes would be a little more difficult. I thought that I would instantly get involved in clubs and campus life. I imagined more autonomy and freedom in the classes I chose to take. And I thought that the overall feeling would just be more.

But I’m not saying it’s been easy. Its been far from easy. Waking up is so hard, I have no idea how I got up at 7:00 am during high school because right now, waking up at 8:30 is a daunting task. Late nights are spent writing papers hours before they’re due. Staying out late and balancing my course load is definitely as hard as I thought it would be, its just that I thought the work would be more thought provoking, rather than just numerous. But college has made me think: How did I handle 8 periods of different classes a day, if I can’t handle 4 courses a week, taking only 2 classes a day?

However, college hasn’t been a total drag. I’ve met some really cool people and had lots of fun. I’m not looking forward to finals and I know I didn’t make this a perfect semester but hey “I tried, and therefore no one should criticize me”.

NY Times Blog Post- Aamer Alam

Let’s Get Down to Business

https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/naaaprojects/

So the theme of our group for the NY Times Project was Business. Since all the members of our group are eager to pursue careers in the field of Business, we saw it appropriate to build our blog post around our prospective field. All of our posts revolved around different aspects of business, whether they be stocks, investments, settlements , or finance. The New York Times was simply rife with information regarding the economy and finance, making the decision to choose business as our theme a no brainer.

Our editor, Abigail, divided the work evenly. My individual task was to post two articles in reference to our decided theme. The articles I chose were about the shift in investments since the recession from stocks to private equity and the recent landmark settlement JP Morgan Chase made with the Justice Department due to their dubious practices leading up to the recession. I chose to center my selected articles around the recession because it has directly shaped our current economy. There is so much we can learn from the mistakes prior to the recession, such as the loan practices Chase had employed, as well as analyzing how our market has changed post recession, such as the recent turn towards private equity and away from stocks and bonds.

News literacy is highly essential in today’s environment. Awareness of current events is crucial  for our lives moving forward. We need to be wary of whats going on around us in order to make informed decisions. Due to this project, the Newstand in my iPhone is no longer empty and at any given time my backpack is always housing a newspaper and an issue of Times Magazine.

First Post/Assignment 1 Post

Ok so as you can tell through my photos, I love food. Chipotle, Starbucks, Burgers, Waffels…. you name it I’ll eat it. Additionally I harbor a love of the TV series Suits and the game of tennis, me and my dad make it a point to attend the US Open at least every year. And the last thing you need to know about me is that I also dabble a bit in menswear. OH and the twitter screenshot is something I find both amusing and applicable.
