Blog Post 3 – Abil Abraham

599x2piThis has been a very interesting time in my life. It has been a huge adjusting process, not just for my education, but in my life as a whole. I am living away from my family and in an entirely new environment. I am taking on a lot more responsibility and taking control in managing my life. A lot of decisions are up to me now. This has been a learning experience as well, especially learning about myself.  This time spent so far has also given me a look into the future. Things have changed, but all in all I believe it has been for the better.

NY Times Blog Post 2 – Abil Abraham

Our group selected education as our theme for the New York Times Project. We decided to pick that theme because its obviously a very important subject. We are all here at Baruch for that reason, and its our role as students, to get an education. Its something that people often take for granted. We forget that not everyone is fortunate enough to get such a valuable resource.  Each of our articles were related to education in some way. The article “Students Accused of Cheating…” discusses the issue of academic integrity and makes readers think about the flaws in the education system. The article “The Charter School Fight”  discusses the role of education in politics, and how it is an important debate issue. The article “Top Test Scores From Shanghai Stun Educators” takes a look at education in a global view and how education varies from country to country. The article “Losing Is Good for You” discusses how it might be good to accept a loss sometimes which can also transfer over to education. The article “Overscheduled Children…” talks about the importance of balancing your life of education and your social life. The article “An Education in Equality” looks at the importance of equality in education and how very often it is doesn’t happen. My role in the group for the project was administrator. I assigned everyone’s readings and compiled everyone’s work on to the front page. From this project I learned how with every story there are multiple sides. You have to look at each point of view carefully before making any decisions or judgments, the real truth maybe hidden.

Blog Post 1

Hello, my name is Abil Abraham and this is my first blog post. My parents were born and raised in India, specifically the southern state of Kerala, but I was born here in the U.S. To be exact I was born in Queens but I’ve spent most of my life in the small town of Niskayuna in upstate New York. I don’t really know why but its always been a dream of mine to live in New York City. As for my interests I did crew for about three years and enjoy playing frisbee casually with friends. Music is a huge part of my life, I listen to a variety of different genres and can’t pick any favorite artists or songs because there are just too many. I’ve also dabbled in playing several instruments, including piano, drums, trumpet, and harmonica, but I never really stuck with any of them I just play them all every once in awhile. On my downtime I like to watch a variety of TV and movies, or just hang out with friends. I wouldn’t call myself much of an artist but I do like doodle here and there. Finally I hate trying to define myself. One belief I have is that it is impossible to completely define a single individual, there are simply too many factors that make up a person.
