Hey my name’s Shumana Ashique but a lot of my friends just call me Shumi. If you look at my playlist, you can tell that it is kind of, sort of, just a little… all over the place. You’ll see that I prefer music from different languages and the genre of the music that i listen varies as well. I think that this diversity in my music taste actually represents who I am as a person. I would say that I am someone who can adapt to anything and everything and embrace all situations thrown at me, good or bad. I know that at this point i sound very optimistic, but that’s just because I am very optimistic, although my friends may disagree with me.

I was born to Bengali parents and am a first generation American. With that being said, I am not like other first generation Bengali- Americans, because i tend to embrace my culture a lot. Maybe even a little bit too much. Even though Punjabi and Hindi music is not really the same thing as Bengali music, it is pretty close. And hey I’m brown so people call me Indian anyways. One thing that should stick out, is probably the random Korean song just chilling in the middle of my playlist. So, I must confess that I am an avid K-pop listener and embrace Korean culture as much as I embrace my own.

Other genres of music on my playlist include rap, pop, r&b, and even rock. So, as you can see there is really no consistency with my taste in music. I’ll listen to anything that’s good. I see life the same way. It it is possible, I’ll give it a shot. I don’t like to be biased, although it might happen sometimes without me knowing. That’s why me entering Baruch has been a pleasant experience for me so far. the transitioning of high school life to college life has not brought me down either. I came in ready to embrace the entirety of what is college and Baruch, and I’d have to say that I am pretty content so far.
