The Playlist

Just as the charts change, so does my music taste.

The one thing that will never change is my love for electronic music. Although my brohers raised me on gabber and progressive house, I adore happy hardcore and trap, such as “24/7” and “Yaow!” respectively. “Babylon” was thrown in since it reminds me most of my brother’s own style and helps me keep his memory alive.

“Meow” is a subtle nod to my obsession with video games and all things pixelated. Anamanaguchi’s upbeat vibe helps my inner 8-bit princess escape from this castle called reality.

While on the topic of guilty pleasures, no good playlist is complete without a little Gaga or Britney. Though the choice was hard, “Teeth” and “Toy Soldier” came out on top of my list of hidden beauties. There ain’t nothing wrong with getting down with your bad self.

I’m throwing in two songs by Kitty Pryde because I find her easy to relate to. We’re more or less seeing the same things, taking in the same scenery. Being eighteen and bumbling in NYC is uncomfortable.

“Tamale,” is in dedication to my prince’s video release. Tyler, you are my rock and my foundation. But in all seriousness, I greatly admire his boldness. Only certain people can get away with saying all the ironically ignorant things Ace spews.

The final song, “Wondering” acts as a palate cleanser after Tyler’s raunchy lyrics. Does This Offend You, Yeah? is known for their borderline cynical undertones that have been skillfully tucked under layers of dissonance. The underlying nature of the song speaks multitudes.

If you were having trouble guessing the theme of the playlist, it was “Deafman’s Delight.”
