The enrichment workshop/activity is when we were required to read certain nytimes articles and discuss about them during Freshmen Seminar. This activity was not particulary fun, but the articles were interesting and learn new things. One article example was the use of technology and how it was taking over human kind. After reading and watching the video for that article, I realized that I could use it to relate to my every day life; I see people using their cellphones when they are eating dinner. Another article that we talked about is Dartmouth and their drinking issue and I see how we can relate it to our school’s drinking policy. As a class, we try to see if drinking should be regulated or not, some said yes, while some disagree. It was a great experience to just sit down and to listen and talk about current issues that might affect our lives.

~3 months in Baruch College can not sum into one picture, so I pick two. Overall, my Baruch experience has been great; there are many ups and downs. The downs are having to give up my precious sleep to do homework or study for a test, having to wake up early and having to kill time during my breaks. However, the upside of my Baruch experience is the people (yes, you) and how convenient it is to grab coffee every morning. The first image describes how I feel 60% of the time. Sometimes my schedule is too packed because of my part time jobs and school work, therefore, I sometimes do think that I should forget about what I need to do and get some rest. Hopefully at the end of this semester, I would be able to just lay on the floor (just don’t you step on me). The 2nd picture is an encouragement quote that I tell myself when I am about to give up. College is new and I expect that there will be a lot more work and I would have to put more time and effort into things I do. When things are hard, I sometimes like to tell myself that things are never easy and it will be worth it in the end so work hard now and you will be rewarded later (hopefully). Summing things up, these two pictures explains that there are times when I want to give up, but there is something telling me not too because it will pay off in the end.

Blog Post #2 by Lauren Chai

My group, the orange gummy bears, was focusing on crime in the regional area. My NY Times articles that focused on crime was the motorcyclist case and the Baby Hope case. In the motorcyclist case, it was about a man named Alexian Lien who got beat up by a group of motorcyclists because of his reckless driving. According to the article, it stated that the driver of the S.U.V knocked down a motorcyclist and out of fear, he pushed the pedal and fled away. While he fled, he hit another motorcyclist. This made the other motorcyclists angry and they hopped on their motorcycles and chased the S.U.V down. When they caught up to the S.U.V, they grabbed the driver and beat him up. Many outsiders were angry and I was also angry, but I’m not sure who I was angry at. I felt that they both were at fault, and instead of talking things out, they resorted to violence. I believe that Alexian should have apologized when he hit the motorcyclist and offered his help. In addition, the motorcyclists should have taken Alexian to the police station.

My other article was about Baby Hope and after 22 years, the mystery of her death has been solved. Baby Hope’s real name was Anjelica Castillo, and she was born in Queens and died at the age of 4. Her body was found in 1991 in a picnic cooler near Henry Hudson Parkway. The killer was Conrado Juarez, her uncle, and his sister helped him. The uncle sexually harassed Anjelica and killed her. His sister suggested that they hide the dead body in the cooler and forget all about this. Fortunately, police never gave up and soon the clues began to pile up and they found the killer. This case made me angry because I could not believe that family can hurt family, not just hurt, but kill. However, even though this was a tragedy, it also showed that no one should give up and people should be more hopeful.

These crime events in the regional area show that we need to be more cautious and help others when we can.

Hello LC11, in case you don’t know who I am, my name is Lauren Chai. I created this small clip for you guys to see who I am when you really get to know me. I started the video with faces of myself; I make a lot of silly faces because I can’t take “nice” pictures. I love to smile and laugh. The 2nd picture shows my love for art; I like graphic design the most and I started graphic design since the beginning of high school, but then stopped because my photoshop got erased. The 3rd picture shows that I love to travel and I only been to only a few places. I plan to study abroad in the future college years. I love eating desserts because they make me happy whenever. I will love to travel around the world and eat dessert. I enjoy spending time with my friends and making memorable memories. I absolutely love super heroes movies (like the Avengers), comedy shows, drama shows and korean dramas. My brother and I love to play video games together. I am better at fighting games and my brother is better in sports games. In my room, there are pictures of my family members from New York, Canada, and China; I love them to death! Last, but not least, I love to shop. Even if I can’t afford the things, I feel semi-satisfied just looking at them. Well, that’s me. 🙂
