Post 2: Politics

My group chose politics as that theme for our NY Times project. Each of the articles we summarized in some way had to do with this theme. Some dealt with politics locally, some nationally and others internationally, so that we could get an idea of what is happening politically in our world at this time. My specific article applies to politics since it has to do with the election of a new mayor of New York City as well as how culture is affecting it. The abundance of diversity, especially in New York could lead to changes in how people are used to voting, specifically that voters might either need magnifying glasses to actually be able to read the names, or in the future, have a multiple-page ballot.

Politics have a big effect on our every day lives and as students of a city college, we could be particularly affected by this new mayor. This is why our theme and the articles we chose, in part, reflect some prominent issues and concerns during our first semester. We also wrote about the very last minute change in date for the Club Fair. As somewhat of a political issue regarding the college, those in charge of this decision evidently were not aware of the effects it could have on various students and clubs. This can often be found to happen in more general politics as well.
