Human trafficking and the forced sexual exploitation of its victims has become a growing global epidemic. The victims, primarily young girls from poor rural areas in places like Nepal, are kidnapped, deceived, and/or coerced against their will to enter this illicit business. They are looked upon as property and nothing more than tools to raise profits. Through lack of nutrition, physical brutality and psychological torture, these victims are broken down and manipulated. Housed in underground brothels also known as safe houses, these women are forced to have intercourse multiple times a day. Fortunately, some women like Charimaya Tamang escape this tragic fate and go on to help address this issue publicly. Traffickers and all others linked may be caught in due time but there is only so much we can do. As the article states, the number of trafficked women continues to rise. The real challenge here is not only those leading this business but the ever so high and increasing demand for this business.
