Gif that describes me

That is the link to the gif that describes me, if you cannot see it, it is a picture of a footstep with words that say “Today I will concentrate on taking one step forward no matter how small”.  I like the idea of this Gif because I find that most of every job that needs to be completed, or that you want to be complete, most of the effort lies in taking the first steps. I learned this in a few areas of my life

When I came to college I told myself that I would do a set number of pushups every night before I go to sleep.  At first it was very difficult, there were a few times that I forgot and had to go to my room quickly or get out of bed to do them.  It was quite annoying at first.  After I took these first few steps though, I found that doing pushups before I go to sleep every night isn’t very hard.  So I have increased the number requirement for what I call, the “bed buy-out”, which is something that I have to do if I want to go to bed, and often times in the fitness world, working out is referred to as “getting money”.

Next, and probably most importantly, I find this is true with my education.  When I know I have a lot of work, or I think I have a lot of work, I find that it behooves me to just do it sometimes, because I am less nervous when I do.  For example, I could wait until the last minute because I know something is easy and I won’t stress over it, or if I find something will be challenging I will do it as soon as possible so that I don’t have to think about it.  It is important to take that first step though.  Especially when writing essays.  I find that when I don’t know what I am going to write about for an essay, the hardest part is to just start typing, and that getting the initial thought into words is the most challenging.  But if you take that first step, you may find that the rest of the five page paper perhaps is easily conquered.

I think when it comes to creating ourselves as individuals we all have to take the first steps.  We have to take these steps as part of defining ourselves, and branding ourself to pursue what we want to pursue.  It’s not something that we can necessarily find in school either, it may be something that we must learn to pursue on our own, through our own research, being around our own field, doing it because we want to for whatever reason.  This to me is how careers are built, success is made, and children mature into adulthood.  Its about how we become what we wish we were, and how we are will to change the world and ourselves in the process.

Success by Aubrey Canna

A man once told me that anytime I slept, ate, spent time with friends, did anything outside of what my purpose is, that someone else was practicing, studying, getting better, and getting ahead.

Obviously I came to college with a purpose. This is my whole life.  Every fiber of my being belongs here, and anything less than complete devotion is sub-par.  It’s a shortcoming, a regret destined to reach fruition in future years.

I can trade the pleasures of college for success. You can keep the good times, you can party, you can drink, waste time.  You can keep that.  I’ll take the opportunities, I’ll take the grades, that thing that you didn’t give a second look because your time was occupied with nonsense.

And I can live with not being intelligent enough.  I can deal with trying my absolute best and not reaching my goals.  But I plan on outlet-ing my time to different sources, seeking a spark on whatever can make me money, make me successful, give me a future.

I accept that this world has so many problems, and that if I can hold the solution to just one, just one small problem, I can be successful.  I can make money, serve a purpose, make the world better than it was before I existed.  But its not a want, its a need, like the need for oxygen in  drowning lungs.  And this opportunity is a chance to reach the surface of the water.  Anyone who doubts my abilities and wants to bet against me will lose, because I cut the deck and deal the cards.  I need to make the most of this opportunity, the present is here now but gone soon.  Just like all of us.  So the question is, what notes will history take about you?

These pictures describe who I am as a person.  I am a club promoter (the picture of my friends and I is of a yacht party I promoted for recently) who enjoys playing basketball (picture of me dunking), working out (picture of me working out on a pull-up bar in the park), spending time with his girlfriend(Picture of my girlfriend and I at our high school prom). I am a freshman here at Baruch (obviously) who plans on becoming a business major.  Because this summary of who I am is supposed to be 500 words, I will continue to expand upon these topics in great detail in this self centered, borderline narcissistic project.

I have been playing basketball since I was four years old, playing four years of varsity basketball for my high school.  I also enjoyed coaching a second grade youth team for a parish.  In addition to this, taking more of the business approach, I have successfully ran official basketball tournaments in which I took time to get permits for basketball courts in public parks, advertised in them, and successfully ran tournaments with up to 20 teams of 3 with top two teams receiving prizes.

While training for basketball in high school I found my passion for athletics and working out.  I particularly liked calisthenics (for those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s pushups,pull-ups, anything involving your own body weight), but recently I have developed an interest in working out with weights.  For a very short period of time I explored becoming a personal trainer before realizing that the money-making potential is very limited.

I also have always had a passion for music.  I’ve played piano since I was six or seven years old, and have performed in several concerts including in restaurants for tips, on stage for talent shows, and in school for concerts.  I have tutored peers in my high school music classes in learning beginning steps of reading music, finger positions, and posture.  My interest in music also expanded into the audio engineering field, where I interned for a group, “Sandblast Productions” who were post-audio engineers working with Showtime, Nickelodean, and Sesame Workshop (Sesame Street), just to name a few clients.

I also have recently started pursuing success in club promoting.  I promote parties such as the one in the picture which was on a 25 million dollar yacht that toured around the city.  I enjoy this job so far, and I hope to get better at it in the future (so if you ever want to go to an awesome party I’m the person to talk to!!)  Because I am an athlete, I don’t drink or smoke, making me excellent at my job.

Although everything I mentioned so far is a lot of fun and are passions of mine, my main focus right now, and most important aspect of my life, is my education in college.  I have dreams of making a lot  of money some day, and although it’s not impossible, graduating college with a low GPA will hurt my chances.  I know that at the end of the day, all of these hobbies and lifestyle choices can wait until college is over.  So I will end on this note as far is who I am… I am happy with where I am, but I will never be satisfied until I am successful.
