It’s not just songs… It’s a whole story

1.  If It Means A Lot To You – A Day To Remember

This song is my favorite since February 2013.  The song talks about a couple, that are far away from each other because of some reason (I think it’s the army), and the boy promises to the girl that is she could wait for him, then they will make it last. This song means so much to me because I met my true love on February of 2013 and he was in the army then (I am Greek and in my country army is  necessary for 9 months) and this was the first song he dedicated to me and when I heard it, I was surprised because it was just like it was written for us.

2. Do I Wanna Know? – Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys is my favorite band so far. This song talks about a person that we are in love or we like and we can’t get through him/her. The funny thing is that in the lyrics A.M. say ”there’s this tune I found that makes me think of you somehow” and every time the music of this song starts, I can’t stop thinking about that one person (which is my boyfriend, we are 9 months together) and I was listening to that song all summer long because I was feeling that I love him and I was so afraid of telling him ’cause I thought that it may be too early to say ”I love you” and I am not that type of romantic girls which falls in love with everyone. So every time I was listening to that song, I was automatically gaining courage to say things that I wanted to say to him.

3.  Best Of You – Foo Fighters

Most of people think that this song has to do with the ”failure-success” thing only because of the chorus and this is wrong. The song talks about a bitter break up and now he realizes how much the girl meant to him. I just love this song because all of us have had a bitter break up and we were trying to get over him/her and we were feeling that the world was falling and that the boy/girl that was with our crush now was so lucky (actually we were thinking about how to smack his/her face but doesn’t matter)

4. Start of something good – Daughtry

This song starts with the lyric ”You never know when you’re gonna meet someone and your whole wide world in a moment comes undone” and that’s exactly what happened to me with Jan (the guy I can’t stop talking about). He dedicated this song to me a week ago and I was so confused about the meaning because we are together all these months so there can’t be a ”start of something good”, it already started. Then when we where talking on Skype, he showed me the tickets that he booked to come and visit me all the way from Greece! I was so shocked! I had no words at all.. And it’s not only that he will visit me, but he actually wants to find a job here and move with me. And this was the shot down for me haha. So that’s what ”the start of something new” was about…

5. Last Resort – Papa Roach

That’s the song I used to listen to with my friends back in Greece, in our favorite rock bar that we used to go. Every time this song was playing, the barman was looking at us and serving us free beers while we were singing and head rolling like crazy haha (I used to have more boys as friends and most of them had long hair).

6. The Pretender – Foo Fighters

I used to listen to that song when I was getting hurt from people, not relationships, but friends! And that’s what hurts the most… And I hate when people are PRETENDING that they care about you and they PRETEND to be your friend and they PRETEND they are nice and in the end they show their REAL FACE.

7. Wonderwall – Oasis

Every time a had a fight with my father about my boyfriend, I was listening to that song because it was the only song that knew in what situation I was. This song was dedicated to me again from my boyfriend, because my dad always was trying to change my mind about Jan (my bf) because he is half turkish and we are greek… But those things are the most stupid reasons and thoughts to break up with someone, cause after all, we all are humans and the same and we all have feelings, needs, etc. So, dad, you’d better forget about it 😛

8. Pumped up Kicks – Foster the People

The song is saying about a boy that he rolled a cigaret, he found a gun at his dad garage and he started shooting other kids. And when his dad came home after work, he brought him a surprise and the boy said ”i think your hair is on fire” and shut his dad. And that’s exactly what happened in my cousin’s school 3 years ago. A boy started shooting the professors and the students and many of them died will others were seriously harmed. Thank God my cousin was fine.

9. Stop The World I Wanna Get Off With You – Arctic Monkeys

I can say that this is mine and my boyfriends anthem haha. We barely like new people, because everyone is pretending and trying to be something that its fake so we dislike almost everyone. And we want to runaway somewhere together or leave Earth if possible and go to a place that only the two of us will exist. Or at least to a place that people won’t act like the ones we know until now.

10. Safe and Sound – Capital Cities

That song always makes my mood 🙂 And the lyrics are meaningful when you meet the right person. So two points for the song :p

Malika Sampson (video) My Life in mins 0.o

My life in mins   <—-Link

my life in mins

^^^^^^^link to video hope it works

I put together a video but I can’t upload it I don’t know why. my video is comprised of all of my favorite things I couldn’t get all that I wanted to in there but I guess what I did get most of it has to do with the things associated with my everyday life. I used sound in the video in the form of violins and one of the best doctor sues narrations there is just to add some of the two things I love the most into the video.  I love that I’m starting this entirely new journey in Baruch and more things have gone right than have gone wrong so far and I’m hoping they stay that way. I come from a house hold where education is valued among all and my mother always pushes me to do my best while not pushing me too far. My friends keep me sane and centered and I love being with them whenever I have the time. I love my home country not only because I was born there but because of the culture. Everyone is so friendly and hardworking. I love poetry and started writing since I was probably about 8 years old and I fell in love with Dr.Seuss books. Green eggs and ham was my first dr. Seuss book but they first book I remember begging my mother to read to me every night is a book called one, two, flea. I have changed career choices many time and that’s because i am such an indecisive person. I wanted to be a pediatrician but something as simple as a trip to the circus would make me want to change professions. My most prominent choice now is to be an anesthesiologist but I don’t know if I’m willing to do what it takes to obtain this career. It’s very draining and requires a lot of dedication. I would love to find a job that allows me to work with kids and travel. I love children and the idea of being able to see all of the wonders of the world sounds amazing to me. I was involved in so many clubs during my high school career including Track and Field, Cross Country, Bowling, Poetry, Asian, Leadership, Student Council, Teens At Service, Skills USA, Glamour Gals, YES, Spark, National Technical Honor Society, Mouse Squad, and yearbook committee. I am the only child for my Mother Michelle and my father died when I was about 3 years old and there is not much that I can remember about him. I love to write not only poetry but anything that has to do with being creative and incorporating my ideas into a project.  I want to be a waitress as a part time job before I go onto my true career, I don’t know why being a waitress has always been a goal for me but I thought I would put that in there in case any of you know a place that’s hiring. This is the end of my introduction and it as very nice to meet you all.

The David Vainer experience

2-nyc-empire-nina-papiorek.jpgthis a picture of New york city. as unoriginal as this picture is i think it is important for everyone to know where they are and where they are from.  I’m also sure that everyone in the world thinks that their city is “the greatest city in the world” but there truly is no place like new york city. It is without a doubt THE greatest city in the world.

Istock-swimmer-032410.jpgThis is a picture of a man swimming. it is essential in my life because for as long as i can remember swimming has been a monumental part of my life. i started swimming when i was 7 and started competing when i was 12. My favorite strokes are the Butterfly and the breaststroke. when i was around 14 and i started high school i easily made the school swim team and was captain within a year of being on the team.

14.jpgthis is a picture of a Torah, which is the holy scroll of judaism. the reason it is a big part of my life is because i have been going to jewish private school for over a decade. the school has instilled in me values, and lessons that can’t be learnt anywhere else in the world. even as i leave high school judaism will always be a big part of my life.

jerusalem_israel.jpgthis is a picture of Israel. this is picture is probably the most crucial one to me and means the most. the state of israel is in the heart of every jew. jews have fought long and hard in order to receive own state and we now have one. with all the turmoil in the middle east right now i thought it was very important to post this.

poker_AA.jpg

now i would like to talk about the fun stuff that i like. poker is my favorite game to play with my friends. it is a high intense game that involves risk, critical thinking and math skills. the high adrenaline rush that i get during playing is what makes the game so great. the risk of losing and winning and going through the roller coaster ride of having everything and having nothing makes the game so great.

Louis-ck.jpgthis is a picture of Louis CK.  hie is by far one of my favorite comedians. his stands up are absolutely brilliant and genius. he is deffinitly one of my favorite people of all time. he arguably the best comedian out there right now.

15SIEGEL-blog480.jpg

This is a picture of a family. i thought that it was very important to mention that family is probably on everybody’s list but it is still very important to show. Everything that have ever accomplished and will accomplish in the future is because of my family. at the end of the day friends come and go but family is something that you are stuck with for life.

Official_Portrait_of_President_Reagan_1981.jpgThis is a picture of Ronald Reagan. in my eyes he one of the greatest presidents who ever lived. he stood for valor and hard work. he helped america through an economic ressecion and his humor and jokes were always appreciated by america and its citizens. he made the country into a better country than it was before hi and for that i respect him and place him at one of the best presidents this country has ever seen.

Ravi Musalin

1. Black Star – Respiration

Hip Hop is my favorite genre of music and Black Star was my favorite rap group while growing up.  There was no other song that gets me in a relaxed mood like “Respiration” does.

2. J. Dilla – Doughnuts

J. Dilla was a huge inspiration to me and this instrumental was one of the reasons that led me to start producing music as well.  What impresses me most about Dilla was his dedication to his music.  Despite being extremely sick he still produced music in the final year of his life.  This instrumental, as well as his last album was released three days before his death.  His dedication to his craft is something I admire and try to emulate, not only in music but in anything I do in life

3.  Nas – The World Is Yours

Whenever I am feeling a little down I always play this song.  That may seem a bit odd since this song may sound that uplifting to many people, however it meant the world to me growing up and it always managed to put me in a mellow mood.

4. Lauryn Hill – Superstar

This song is both uplifting and socially conscious.  Lauryn Hill sings and raps in this song and she does both equally as good.  This song always puts me in a good mood.

5.  The Fugees – Ready Or Not

http00s://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIXyKmElvv8

A large part of my family still lives in Trinidad and Tobago.  This includes many cousins, uncles and aunts.  We were always close because I would visit them every summer growing up.  I remember me and my cousins would always listen to The Fugees  when driving around at night.  This song always helps me to remember the good times I’ve shared with family.

6.  Joey Badass – Waves

I started listening to Joey Badass around the same time that Hurricane Sandy hit the shores of New York.  Although my home wasn’t effected too bad, my school sustained major flood damage(The school was located a couple blocks from Rockaway Beach) .  Me and my classmates were displaced and had to attend a different high school for about 2-3 months.  His “1999” mixtape and especially this song helped me get through those tough times.

7. Bob Marley- One Love

Bob Marley’s music was often played in my families household, in both Queens and Trinidad.  I listen to a lot of his music and this song is my favorite.

8. J. Cole – Sideline Story

The story J.Cole tells in this song is one that I, as well as many other high school and college students can relate too.  This song inspires me to chase dreams and to not waste opportunities that are presented to me.

9. Louis Armstrong – What A Wonderful World

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2VCwBzGdPM

This is one song that I listen to constantly.  Louis Armstrong is one of my favorite musicians and I doubt his music will ever get old.

10. Beastie Boys – The New Style

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcMdUKWidPY

The Beastie Boys always created music that was unique and creative.  They will never fail to entertain and put you in a good mood.

Here are a couple of songs that best describe me….

1. Happy by Pharrell

2. The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars

3. New York by Frank Sinatra

4. Dear Mama by Tupac

5. Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

6. Fly me to the Moon- Frank Sinatra

7. Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley

8. Let it be by The Beatles

9. The Motto by Drake

10. Empire State of Mind by Jay Z

My first song that I chose was Happy by Pharrell because this song perfectly describes my emotion everyday, happy. I am almost always happy and never sad. I try my best to not lose my temper because life is too short to be nothing but happy. The other song that I chose was The Lazy song by Bruno Mars. This song is a 100% description of myself because I am always lazy, especially in the morning. Whenever I get told to do something, I usually tell my sister to do it for me because I am always tired and exhausted. The third song I chose was New York by Frank Sinatra because its where I live. This song has a lot of meaning to me because my father used to play this a lot in the car when I was growing up. Apparently, this song just stuck to me and I grew to love it. My fourth song that I chose was Dear Mama by Tupac. This song is extremely deep and inspirational. It makes me feel appreciated of all the things that my mother does for me. Another song that I chose was Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. You might of heard this song in the movie Rocky. In fact, the reason I chose this song was because my favorite movie was Rocky. I probably watched Rocky over fifty times already. The next songs I chose was Fly me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra and Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley. Both of these songs are some of my favorite songs because once again, I grew up listening to them. These songs remind me of my childhood because I would hear it all the time around my house. Let it Be by the Beatles is a very inspirational song. It’s message is exactly what the title is, “let it be.” Basically, it is what it is. The Motto by Drake has a strong message as well, “you only live once.” I’d like to live by this because I would like to live my life to the fullest everyday. Last but not least, I chose Empire State of Mind because every time I hear this song, I think of the best city in the world.

These pictures describe who I am as a person.  I am a club promoter (the picture of my friends and I is of a yacht party I promoted for recently) who enjoys playing basketball (picture of me dunking), working out (picture of me working out on a pull-up bar in the park), spending time with his girlfriend(Picture of my girlfriend and I at our high school prom). I am a freshman here at Baruch (obviously) who plans on becoming a business major.  Because this summary of who I am is supposed to be 500 words, I will continue to expand upon these topics in great detail in this self centered, borderline narcissistic project.

I have been playing basketball since I was four years old, playing four years of varsity basketball for my high school.  I also enjoyed coaching a second grade youth team for a parish.  In addition to this, taking more of the business approach, I have successfully ran official basketball tournaments in which I took time to get permits for basketball courts in public parks, advertised in them, and successfully ran tournaments with up to 20 teams of 3 with top two teams receiving prizes.

While training for basketball in high school I found my passion for athletics and working out.  I particularly liked calisthenics (for those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s pushups,pull-ups, anything involving your own body weight), but recently I have developed an interest in working out with weights.  For a very short period of time I explored becoming a personal trainer before realizing that the money-making potential is very limited.

I also have always had a passion for music.  I’ve played piano since I was six or seven years old, and have performed in several concerts including in restaurants for tips, on stage for talent shows, and in school for concerts.  I have tutored peers in my high school music classes in learning beginning steps of reading music, finger positions, and posture.  My interest in music also expanded into the audio engineering field, where I interned for a group, “Sandblast Productions” who were post-audio engineers working with Showtime, Nickelodean, and Sesame Workshop (Sesame Street), just to name a few clients.

I also have recently started pursuing success in club promoting.  I promote parties such as the one in the picture which was on a 25 million dollar yacht that toured around the city.  I enjoy this job so far, and I hope to get better at it in the future (so if you ever want to go to an awesome party I’m the person to talk to!!)  Because I am an athlete, I don’t drink or smoke, making me excellent at my job.

Although everything I mentioned so far is a lot of fun and are passions of mine, my main focus right now, and most important aspect of my life, is my education in college.  I have dreams of making a lot  of money some day, and although it’s not impossible, graduating college with a low GPA will hurt my chances.  I know that at the end of the day, all of these hobbies and lifestyle choices can wait until college is over.  So I will end on this note as far is who I am… I am happy with where I am, but I will never be satisfied until I am successful.

Growing up my parents were always working so they couldn’t take care of me therefore I lived with my grandparents until the age of ten. They raised me since I was two weeks old and taught me everything I know. They sent me to private school since the age of three in order to get a good education. They’ve both had a major impact on me and made me who I am today and I miss them both very much.

Dance has been a major part of my life. Since the age of three I was enrolled in dance classes where I learned ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, and hip hop. I was never good at sports so dancing was a good way for me to stay active. When I was sixteen I took up bachata and meringue classes with some of my close friends and when i was seventeen I learned bollywood dancing. Dance is a good way to express myself and become stress-free.

Disney

Going to Disney World for my birthday has been a tradition since my fourth birthday. I always thought of it as the most magical place in the world. Growing up I loved watching Disney movies and Disney World was such a fun place for me to go to and let my imagination run wild. Now that I’m older I love going there because I can feel like a kid again and let all my troubles go away.

My freshman year of high school was a point in my life where I struggled with depression. It was so bad that I was put into a mental hospital, Zucker Hillside, for attempting to take my own life. During that time my friends weren’t allowed to visit me and neither was my brother because he was too young. My only escape was music and Eminem’s music spoke to me which gave me the strength to continue living.

During my sophomore year of high school I met my friend Alexa who loved makeup. I was never into makeup beforehand but she taught me all the basics and got me into it. Later I started watching makeup tutorials on youtube and started developing a real passion for it. Last year I enrolled in Gloria Francis Beauty School where I became a certified makeup artist which is my current job.

My best friend throughout my entire life would have to be Nick G. or as people like to call us Nicky G^2. As depicted in this picture he’s always making me smile and cheering me up when I’m upset. He listens to all my problems and is always there to lend a helping hand. He always has a positive attitude which balances my negative side and is overall a fun person to hangout with.

The LIRR has been a big part of my life now considering I commute to school four days a week. Sometimes it can be quiet and peaceful in order to catch up on some homework and sometimes it can be loud and hectic. Luckily my friend also commutes to go to school in the city so I’m not alone and we travel together.

New York City has always been my favorite place in the entire world. This was a major reason I chose to study at Baruch besides its reputation in business. The city has always fascinated me because it’s so full of life and color. There are people from all over the world as well as food from all over. You can never get bored because there’s always something to do and the opportunities are endless.

My Darkest Days – Still Worth Fighting For

So lets starts off with some rock! This song isn’t like every other rock song, its more on the soft side. It also has really sweet and touching lyrics (to me anyway). It has a lot of meaning to me, and there are thousands of memories tied to it.. During my sophomore year of High School I went out of states to Israel for a year due to my dad’s job. I met so many amazing people there, and I got really attached to some of them. One guy that I was really close to showed me this song after he had told me that he liked me but that he obviously knew it wouldn’t work because I wasn’t staying in Israel permanently. Now whenever I hear this song, the memories of everyone I befriended there come rushing back.

Philip Wesley – Dark Night of The Soul

Switchin’ it up to classical music. Let’s see.. I guess the main reason I like classical music at all is because I went to music school from 1st to 5th grade. I was taught to play numerous instruments (sadly I’d forgotten how to play since I didn’t take them seriously enough), but my favorite of all time is the piano. I really love how calming and ‘flowy’ Philip Wesley’s music can be.. It always paints some sort of picture or scene in my head (or maybe that’s just something I picked up from music class.. LOL.)

 Be With You – Aziatix

This song is just so upbeat and happy and I just love it~! It always helps me cheer up or get more energized when I’m tired/bored. It really doesn’t have any real meaning or significance to me except for the fact that it’s like my happy song. LOL.

Jung Yonghwa – Because I Miss You

KPOP YES~! <3 To those of you who aren’t familiar with this genre, its Korean Pop. This specific song is sung by a singer that I have adored for many years. He was the main lead in a Korean Drama called “Heartstrings” (If anyone is a fan of anything Korean, I definitely recommend watching this!), and this was a song he wrote and sang for the girl he liked when things got tough for her. His voice is what got me addicted to this song, but the Kdrama played a part in it too.

My Darkest Days – Can’t Forget You

Going back to My Darkest Days and the whole ordeal with me and Israel. I came across this song by accident a few months (close to half a year or so) after I had left Israel, and it really just got to me emotionally. The lyrics give away the meaning of the song, and yes, it is dedicated to someone. Even though that someone doesn’t mean nearly as much as he used to, this song still triggers memories and causes me to miss the old days..

Royal  Pirates – Drawing The Line

Yay, Kpop~ Okay, so there are 2 versions to this song; A Korean version and an English version. I’ll focus on the English version (even though the 2 versions have 2 completely different meanings, but OH WELL~) just to make things easier for you. The beat is addicting to me, and I love how the song is a mix of pop and rock <3 Just like “Be with you”, this song gets me happy, energized and hyped up. The Music Video for it is also very adorable which is what caught my eye in the first place.

EarlyRise – Wasteland

I stumbled upon this song by accident a while back, and the intro reallyyyy caught my attention (The guitar parts specifically). Then when the singer began to sing I was absolutely in love with her voice. The way I see it, this song is about our society and how we’re always judged and because of that we pretend to be someone we’re not; basically we follow rules that don’t even exist. The singer encourages us to break of that habit and to just be ourselves.

Kim Jaejoong – Mine

Okay so Kim Jaejoong has to be my all-time favorite Korean artist EVER. I’ve been a fan of his since.. 2009 I believe, when he was still in a group called TVXQ/DBSK. I’m so used to hearing upbeat KPop songs from him that when I stumbled upon this specific song I was completely shocked because I never thought he’d do KRock.. And after seeing the MV as well I was absolutely in love~! His voice is amazingggg and the music video is really really well made.. I also adore the fact it’s a rock song with bits of calming piano parts (Combination of my 2 favorite instruments ever; Piano and Guitar <3) I’ve become pretty much addicted to this song now and have been listening to it almost non-stop since I found it about 2 weeks ago.

J Rice – Afraid of Love

So I found out about this song on Pandora years ago. At the time, I was getting over a bad relationship so I could relate to this song pretty well.. But now, I just really like the beat of it and even though the lyrics don’t mean the same thing they did to me back then, I can still relate to this song to an extent. His voice is also very soothing and compliments the melody/beat.

Simple Plan – Save You

While I was in Israel I was introduced to this band, and this song was the first song I heard by them. It has a lot of meaning to me because it is on the topic of cancer and cancer survivors.. Both my grandfathers died of cancer when I was very young; one of them died when I was only 1 and the other died when I was 5 years old. I don’t have any memories of either one because 1. I was too young at the age of 1, and 2. I moved to Israel when I was 2 years old and left one of them behind.. Even though I don’t have memories of them this song still affects me because they were my parents’ parents and they had told me a lot about them throughout the years. If you watch the Music Video and listen to the lyrics you’ll also be emotionally affected one way or another (even if you never lost someone to cancer)

Drake- the motto

Drake-The ride

Yung Lean- Kyoto

Childish Gambino-Centipede

Childish Gambino- Yaphet Kotto

Childish Gambino- Shadows

Childish Gambino- Telegraph Ave

Childish Gambino-Urn

The Shins- New Slang

Nujabes- Arurian Dance

Drake’s Started from the bottom is probably the most inspirational song I have ever heard. Drake talks about how he started from nothing, from the bottom. He used to be this rapper that every hated and was a nobody. Now Drake is successful, his albums are top of the charts. Everybody knows who he is, he is famous. I aspire to be as successful as Drake is, he definitely worked hard to get to where he is today. Hey buddy we made it.

Drake’s The Motto. Drake brushes off his haters in this song.  I try to do this same thing. I also try to YOLO. After hearing this song I try to live life to the fullest. I do things I normally wouldn’t do, things that scare me. I try to step outside of my comfort zone. Anytime I’m feeling nervous I just put The Motto on and YOLO.

Drake’s The Ride. I love Drake because he’s not afraid to express how he feels. He talks about how hes been feeling about this girl.

Yung Lean Kyoto. I love Yung Lean  because he started out rapping and making videos out of his  basement. In his music video he is in this bodega with his friends. He’s just hanging out drinking Arizona green tea. Yung Lean isn’t afraid to show his emotions. I admire that. After listening to Yung Lean I feel more in touch with my emotions.

I first found out about Childish Gambino through the TV show Community. I loved him as an actor and I found out he was a rapper too. The first album I listened to was Because the Internet. He kept dropping teasers of songs. The first song I heard from him was Yaphet Kotto. This was back in senior year of highschool. One of my playlists used to just all Childish Gambino songs.

The Shins New Slang. I first heard this song when I was watching Zach Braffs movie Garden State.

Nujabes Arurian Dance. This is probably my favorite song of all time.  I can listen to this when I’m sad or happy or just trying to relax. One of my playlists is literally just Arurian Dance on repeat. I heard about this song through my friend who introduced me to Nujabes.

After looking through my playlist I realized a lot of these songs are about artist’s expressing their feelings and emotions. Music is such a powerful tool to really convey one’s emotions. I listen to all sorts of different songs and genres depending on the mood I’m in.
