I think this meme accurately portrays my first semester here at Baruch. The course load for all of my classes has definitely not been easy and at times quite overwhelming. Coffee has definitely been a huge help in giving me the extra energy I need during the tight times. I feel that the first semester of Freshman year is definitely the toughest one to get accustomed to the tough culture of college life. So far I feel I have acclimated well but feel it will definitely take some more time to get up to the speed I want to. The toughest part in my perspective has been the amount of travel time each school day to and from Baruch. The commute from my home in Oceanside, Long Island to the school is a long one, and to be honest quite tiring. To get here I take the long island railroad. It takes around 10 minutes for me to leave my house get in my car park at the train station and get on the train. From the train station that I get on, it is about a 40 minute train ride from the Oceanside train station to Penn Station. From Penn Station it is a 20 minute walk to Baruch. And of course the same list of events going back home only backwards. For me it has been all about routine and being organized. In my senior year of high school I was late more quite often which was crazy considering I lived around 5 minutes from the school and had an 8:30 starting class. And so far at Baruch I have been late to my classes a shockingly low amount of times. I feel like in my first semester at Baruch I have really matured a lot. In high school there was a great amount of immaturity and childish actions among students and even teachers. Everyone in Baruch seems to have one objective in mind in my perspective. This objective is to be successful, which is exactly what I strive to be. One of my most enjoyable parts of this year has been Freshman seminar. Although no credits are received for the class and it is mandatory, it has really been a rewarding experience. It has definitely been a chance for all of the students in our block of classes to come together and get to know one another to a greater extent. I’m glad that all of the students in our block are such nice people and it’s been a pleasure so far this semester to be around them. As well, Melissa and Victoria have been great advisors and have been really helpful in making my experience a good one so far at Baruch. The greatest moment I had in this class is definitely from convocation. Realizing how good of friends I have became with some of these other students I did not know at just puts a smile on my face and reassures me that I made a great decision coming to Baruch. As I will be very sad that the first semester will be over soon, I am also very excited for the start of the new one. I am quite eager to meet new students and take new classes. Scheduling of classes online was a pain and very confusing for me. Academically I feel I will excel even more due to my knowledge of what I have to do to be successful. The routine of the commute here is getting easier everyday and by next semester I should be even more comfortable. I am definitely also looking forward to the winter recess as I will be able to catch up on some sleep so I don’t have to drink so much coffee.
