In this meme, there are two girls pulling a big man from his seat at the beach. It looks like the girls are having a hard time and it reminds me of myself, trying to pull up my GPA.

This photo/meme perfectly describes my experience so far at Baruch College. Everyday, I have been trying to improve my GPA after careless mistakes I had made from the beginning of all my classes. I admit, at the beginning of the semester, I slacked off a lot and did not care about my grades as much as I hope I would. For the first few tests, I didn’t do so well and I knew that I could do better. At that time, I thought that I was still on vacation and college didn’t sink in yet. I didn’t feel like doing any work at all and I always thought that I can make it all up later in the semester just like I did back in Midwood (my old high school). I guess you can say that I was still in that high school mentality. In high school, if you fail a few tests in the beginning, you have so many opportunities to improve your grade for that class. Unfortunately, this does not apply to college and I learned that the hard way. In high school, you have longer semesters and you meet with your classes more often (five days a week.) But for college, the semesters are shorter and you only meet two times a week with each of your classes. This makes it even harder to make up your grade because you have less opportunity to do so.  If I can go back in time to change one thing, I would choose to study more and work harder at the beginning of the semester. It is so difficult to increase my GPA now. Now, I have to work ten times as hard just to pass a class. Just like Melissa said, college will sink in about a month. This is so true because during the first month of college, I did everything that a high school student would do. I would procrastinate, stay up late even though I had morning classes, and even wait until the last minute to do my homework. These habits are so bad but it is so hard to shake off. The last four years in high school, I have been trying my best. I know that college is a different ball game and I’ve come to realize this throughout the semester. College is much more important than high school. From now on, when a new semester comes around, I will work my butt off from the get-go and try my best on every test, homework, and school assignment.

In conclusion, this semester is a wake up call for me. College has finally hit me and now I’ve been trying to make up for all my mistakes so far. This first semester of college has taught me so much already, not only academics, but also about responsibility. All I need to do from this point on, is to stay on track.
