Drake’s Started from the bottom is probably the most inspirational song I have ever heard. Drake talks about how he started from nothing, from the bottom. He used to be this rapper that every hated and was a nobody. Now Drake is successful, his albums are top of the charts. Everybody knows who he is, he is famous. I aspire to be as successful as Drake is, he definitely worked hard to get to where he is today. Hey buddy we made it.

Drake’s The Motto. Drake brushes off his haters in this song.  I try to do this same thing. I also try to YOLO. After hearing this song I try to live life to the fullest. I do things I normally wouldn’t do, things that scare me. I try to step outside of my comfort zone. Anytime I’m feeling nervous I just put The Motto on and YOLO.

Drake’s The Ride. I love Drake because he’s not afraid to express how he feels. He talks about how hes been feeling about this girl.

Yung Lean Kyoto. I love Yung Lean  because he started out rapping and making videos out of his  basement. In his music video he is in this bodega with his friends. He’s just hanging out drinking Arizona green tea. Yung Lean isn’t afraid to show his emotions. I admire that. After listening to Yung Lean I feel more in touch with my emotions.

I first found out about Childish Gambino through the TV show Community. I loved him as an actor and I found out he was a rapper too. The first album I listened to was Because the Internet. He kept dropping teasers of songs. The first song I heard from him was Yaphet Kotto. This was back in senior year of highschool. One of my playlists used to just all Childish Gambino songs.

The Shins New Slang. I first heard this song when I was watching Zach Braffs movie Garden State.

Nujabes Arurian Dance. This is probably my favorite song of all time.  I can listen to this when I’m sad or happy or just trying to relax. One of my playlists is literally just Arurian Dance on repeat. I heard about this song through my friend who introduced me to Nujabes.

After looking through my playlist I realized a lot of these songs are about artist’s expressing their feelings and emotions. Music is such a powerful tool to really convey one’s emotions. I listen to all sorts of different songs and genres depending on the mood I’m in.

My life in 9 pictures

It was hard to choose specifically 8 pictures that describe my whole life. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I LOVE taking pictures, and I’m usually always ready to capture every moment.

The first picture is the one of my family. They are, without a doubt, the most important people in my life. We have always been inseparable, and we are trying to maintain this strong bond for as long as we can.

The next picture is a picture of the beautiful Tirana, my birthplace. I lived

there for the first 14 years of my life until my family decided to move to the United States. Although I knew my life, I always do and forever will miss the feeling of being in my mother land. Well I go back to visit every year, but it certainly is not the same.

My family was not always a family of five. Both grandparents from my dad’s side shown in this picture mean the world to me. My grandma lived with us for many years, and although my grandfather did not live long enough for me to actually know and remember him, I hold a special place in my heart for him.

My fourth picture consists of my cousins. Albanians have large families, which means, lots of cousins. Most of them live in the United Kingdom, one of my favorite places in the world. Ironically enough, after my family moved to New York City, they’re all jealous of us and cannot wait to come here.

The next picture is my “famous” selfie, the best one I have ever taken. Throughout high school, I always got involved by joining clubs and teams. During senior year, while everyone else couldnt wait for the bell to ring to go home, I would wait for the bell to ring so I can start planning all the senior events, due to the fact I was Senior Council President. At graduation, I was offered to speak in front of around 3000 people. It was awesome!

The sixth picture shows another very important part of my life, swimming. I learned how to swim competitively sophomore year of high school. From there, I learned to love swimming and swam for my high school swim team for 3 years. I love it so much that even the stories about how hard college is, did not scare me enough to stop me from joining the Baruch swim team. On the top picture is my orange family, the lifeguards I work with over the summer.

Ever since I was little, I always loved to draw and paint. These are only some of the art work I have completed throughout the years.

Throughout my life, I have met amazing people, and made great friends. I have many friends I left back in Albania with whom I am always in contact with, despite the time difference. But at the same time, I have friends here as well, the ones that I can actually see more often. This is a collage of my closest friends. I have a different and special bond with each one of these ladies. I know I can always trust them with everything.

The final picture is a picture of my new home, the greatest city in the world. (sorry, had to do 9, it was not going to happen with 8) This is what everyone in the world pictures in their head every time someone mentions America. I love living in New York City. Of course it was hard in the beginning, to start life all over again in a place completely different from what I was so used to, but as time has passed, I have learned to get used to everything here, and am now living the ‘American dream’, hoping that one day I will pay back my parents for sacrificing everything they had back home so that we can have a better life.

Hey! My name is Emily Ng.

10694944_292388070962705_1985290925_nI was born in Ecuador, a small 10668148_292392244295621_1378068631_ncountry in South America, which by the way has various breath taking sceneries that you could see in the different regions that it is divided into. What I mean is that you could go from an island to a beautiful beach to the highlands and also to the rain forest, also there are  cities in there so please do not think I live in the wild! But I’m telling the truth about being able to see different sides of the same country.

Okay, so onto the next thing. I couldn’t find a picture of my whole family in the moment I’m writing this so I just decided to use this one instead. In the photograph you can see my mom, dad, my sister and me —I guess I was five when they took that picture— but who is missing from that picture is my youngest sister who I also deeply love. I have to add up that; yes, I am from Ecuador, but my dad is from Hong Kong and my mom from mainland China hence why I look like an asian girl.

I am quite sure that I had a small class compared to most of the people who might be reading this. The people in the picture below are my classmates & friends, something interesting about that is that I’ve been with most of them my whole life. Yup, I’ve been with them since I was 3 years old, so I had people recently tell me how they somehow must be like a family to me which might be true in a way.
Okay, in my school I started to learn Spanish (first language) and English for the most part when I was in kindergarden, so I don’t really know if it was hard or not to learn them because I have no recollection of how I learnt them. But since English is my second language, I don’t have the best pronunciation and grammar but I must say thanks for understanding my situation and being so kind to me.

College started and here I am at Baruch! Since I’m an international student every single experience and sight is new to me which I find quite exciting. I really am enjoying my time here and even when there are times in which I miss my family and friends from back home, I understand that everything will be fine because it’s not like I lost them plus I still have their total support which helps me a lot. So I’m currently dorming and even if it’s kind of far from Baruch campus, I actually get a beautiful view everyday of the city which I was thankful for because I was wishing that it better not be a brick wall.

I joined a club called “Ascend” that helps you not only in a professional aspect but also in a social one. I might have to say that it is one of the best decisions I’ve made until now because its hard to meet people in a new environment and joining clubs truly helps you with that. And as far as I know, people here at Baruch are really nice and eager to help you — because as everyone always say: “They all went through the same”—.
That’s everything I had to say and so that concludes my first blog post.

Explore by Kashuks is one of the most inspirational songs I have ever listened to, and the funniest part of this is that there are literally no lyrics. It’s basically a long instrumental, but you can feel the highs and lows of the song, and there’s always a ton to think about when listening to it. I discovered this song watching a starcraft promotional video, which was perfectly in line with the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EForoZ0ves&index=37&list=LLNsah7t28-0hQ9M6d9VrMkQ .

Nagi no Asukara was the most beautiful anime I’ve watched, design and plotwise, so I have the opening theme song ingrained in my memory. I really liked this anime due to the focus on character development and scenery, PA Works (the producer) does a great job of emphasizing these things.

I remember singing Handlebars – Flobots all of my junior year with my friend Ashique, but I discovered it long before. Flobots, to me, was always an inspirational band, they sang about real issues through their music to raise awareness. It’s a funny thing how I was able to connect with people just by music.

I discovered Lithium Flower  while watching my favorite streamer Avilo online, and it stuck with me. Lithium Flower was part of Ghost in the Shell, which was also one of my favorite shows. It has a really classic vibe to it and I love that about the song. Avilo also exposed me to Nujabes, who made really relaxing music that calms me down every time I listen to it.

As I’m an avid watcher a ton of twitch streams, Darude – Sandstorm has to be on my playlist. Darude – Sandstorm is basically the anthem of twitch chat, every stream has that song, and every time it comes on the chat goes crazy. During a tournament break, Darude held a concert for this reason, and it was just an incredible experience, one that I won’t forget, even though it was just online.

Space Jam was probably my favorite movie growing up, the combination of the Looney Tunes and basketball was just amazing. I’ve probably watched this movie a hundred times along with Ice Age and Home Alone, those are the 3 movies my family enjoys watching together. Also, more recently, space jam has become more of a meme thing in games online, such as in league of legends, where if you have a champion who jumps or dunks on another, you’d just spam this in chat.

Finally, growing up, Linkin Park was by far my favorite band, and the song that stuck with me the most was ‘Somewhere I Belong’. Their Meteora and Hybrid Theory albums really stuck with me growing up. Linkin Park’s music always had a personal vibe that one could really connect with.

I found that a lot of the music I’ve listened to was influenced through online experiences, and I can attest to the internet’s importance in forming me as a person and my musical tastes, no matter how varied that may be. Music has done a great deal of my connecting with others, and I hope I can continue to connect with others via music. I hope you enjoyed my playlist.

Alexis Love’s Life in a Playlist

Given only ten songs to explain who I am was very challenging for me because I believe if anything has a good rhythm and/ or has a message behind it or if it is just a feel good song, it can become my new fav song, but I tried my best. I wanted you guys to get a closer look into who I am outside of the classroom. So I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do!

The Temptations- My Girl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IUG-9jZD-g

John Legend- You and I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi3bc9lS3rg&list=RDPi3bc9lS3rg

Kirk Franklin- I Smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8SPwT3nQZ8

Michael Jackson- Remember the Time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeiFF0gvqcc

Carlos Santana- Maria Maria http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPLV7lGbmT4

Selena- Dreaming of You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRU2qs82DAg

Michael Jackson- We are the World http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW_1YAYQK9g

Trey Songz- Fumble http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRY_5Fh4Lns

Bruno Mars- The Lazy Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLexgOxsZu0

Pharrell Williams- Happy  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM

To start off my playlist, I chose  “My Girl” by The Temptations. Ever since I could remember, my father would play this song every chance he got. He always use to say and  still until this day that when I was born, I was his sunshine, quoting one of the lines from the song “I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day.” This will forever be my all time favorite song, for the simple fact that it brings joy to my father’s eyes whenever it is played. Next, is John Legend’s song “You and I.” John Legend is up there on my top favorite artist. From his sweet voice, to his meaningful lyrics, this song just expresses how every woman should feel waking up, nothing but positive things. As we get down my playlist, I get a little bit more up tempo. Kirk Franklin’s”I Smile,” was actually introduced to me by my mother. I have to at least listen to this song once a day, if I am down in the dumps or just want something to bop my head to, you will definitely hear this playing on high in my room or Ipad. Michael Jackson is finally next. What’s a good [playlist without Michael Jackson on it. I love how Michael Jackson, always brought creativity, flavor, soul, and just himself to a song. “We are the World” just showed how ingenious he was and how only Michael could get people to come together and put their life aside for our fellow “men.” “Remember the Time” expresses how fun Michael was and hoe anywhere or anything he did was a good time. Carlos Santana, a man known for writing songs and getting different artists to sing them, but you will always find him playing his melodic. blues-based guitar in the music video. “Maria Maria” brings a certain spice and flavor to a song that is a key element in music. This song just has that smooth swagger to it that makes it number one for me. Selena, what can I say. Although, most of her songs are in Spanish, her angelic voice speaks volumes to me, in a way that I am able to understand what her music means.  “Dreaming of You” always gets to me, it is so easy to relate to. Anyone who truly knows me, knows that Trey Songz is my all time favorite artist. his song “Fumble,” is basically what every girl wants to hear, how sorry their significant other is when they have done them wrong, but sometimes its to late, its just amazing to hear him apologizing. The last two songs I picked, I bet truly get on some peoples nerves for the fact that it is always playing on the radio. “The Lazy Song,” by Bruno Mars basically explains how I feel every morning when I have to get up extra early for my 8:15 classes, this is why this song made it onto my playlist because it describes how I feel perfectly. Lastly, “Happy” is just a feel good song by Pharrell Williams, when I listen to this song, I truly do feel HAPPY. It’s awesome how Pharrel was able to paint this vivid in my message with a few simple words. I hope you guys enjoyed now I am going to relax and blast my music.

Me by Mohammad Chowdhury

Hello my name is Mohammad Chowdhury and im a freshman here at Baruch. Im from Bangladesh and was raised in NYC almost all my life and I love the city. I like to explore, am very adventurous, like to travel and meet new weird, exotic, and awesome people like myself. My hobbies and interests includes playing and watching basketball ( huge knicks/melo fan, hopefully they make playoffs this time!) soccer, track, football, i play a lot of video games on ps3 and plan on getting a ps4 (favorite game is kingdom hearts and GTA). Im a big movie fan, watch a lot of action and comedy and some tv shows like game of thrones. I plan on majoring somewhere in business.

Even though I haven’t traveled to other cities around the world, I feel like this is the best city in the world. You can find anything here from skyscrapers to parks to museums and meet people from any ethnicity. You can eat just about any kind of food in this city from all over the world. This city is apart of me now and im apart of this city. We can’t survive without each other lol. Im proud to be a New Yorker.

I really like watching basketball (the nba) and I believe its the most exciting thrilling sport there is. Watching my favorite team the Knicks gets me all riled up. Im a true Knicks fan even though they might suck right now. I also really like Carmelo Anthony not just as an athlete but as a person too. He’s a really cool guy and is extremely good in basketball. He’s very entertaining to watch and every time he scores a basket, I get really excited. Hopefully he leads his team to the playoffs and gets mvp and gives New York a championship.

In addition to watching basketball, I also play it and a wide variety to other sports like soccer, football, running, and thats it. I believe I’m very athletic and if i set my mind to it and practice everyday, I can become a professional athlete. But I cant do it because I got a lot of work to do.

I play a lot of video games from all types of games from rpgs to action. I enjoy playing video games during my spare time and it makes me feel relaxed. My favorite game of all time is Kingdom Hearts and its an action game that incorporates the characters and story of the disney universe and final fantasy. I played this game when I was a kid and it taught me a lot of things like friendship and to never give up. And when I think about the game, it brings up so many memories of not only the game but my childhood.

This game is also one of my favorite games as it taught me nothing. This game was just straight up fun even though it may be a violet game. The feeling I got booting the game up and playing it is unmatched. This game was pretty insane in terms of everything. The scope and potential of the game is huge. You can basically do whatever you want.

My favorite tv shows includes HIMYM and Game Of Thrones. I think game of thrones is an awesome show because of its medieval fantasy setting and the amount of deaths there is. A lot of those deaths are very surprising. This show taught me how cruel people can be and that you can die anytime and quickly if you’re not careful. My favorite movie is the first pirates of the caribbean movie because I really like pirates and how they are portrayed in this movie and also because of my favorite actor Johnny Depp. I thought he was amazing and very funny in this movie. This movie made me want to become an adventurer, not like a pirate but as a thrill seeking person. I want to see the exotic part of the world and meet new exciting people there.

Guys I chose these songs because they all really mean something to me. Starting off with “Everlasting Light” by The Black Keys, I first heard this song while I was camping upstate. I don’t know why but the rhythm of the song alone just makes me happy. This is the only song that doesn’t have any significance to me…yet. “19-2000” by Gorillaz is that song that i play when things are moving too fast. It’s a great college and adulthood song to me because its about how the world and your surroundings change frequently and you’re left scrambling to adjust to the change(s). Kind of like dealing with all the new responsibilities we have as “adults”. The Velvet Underground’s “Sunday Morning ” is just a relaxing song BUT with a dark tone as it makes you feel relaxed but the lyrics in it point to how sometimes you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders. “Fell in Love With a Girl” by White Stripes is just a great song. I personally feel that it recreates that hectic feeling of when you really love someone. However I always found this ironic because the song’s feeling is quite opposite to its lyrical meaning. I’ve been there, in that situation it describes. This makes it easy to lead into the next song, “No Buses” by The Arctic Monkeys which basically says that when you need something (like a bus or maybe someone’s affection) you’ll get nothing but when you don’t need it then there is more than enough to go around. I really love the next two songs which are by The Strokes. “Is This It” is that song i listen to when i feel empty and find myself disappointed by something. It strangely cheers me up because there is a sort of dark humor or apathy to it that i can relate very well to. “I Can’t Win” is that song that basically defines me. I some how always come up short in something that I really want to excel at. Some how some way I always screw up along the way and miss the mark. Close but no cigar. “In Transit” by Albert Hammond Jr. ,who is one of the guitarists in The Strokes,  basically describes how there are some people out there who will try to change you and much to their dismay; they fail. This is perfect for me because I won’t change for anyone unless I know its for the positive and I won’t do it until I want to. “My Way” by THE Mr. Frank Sinatra is a song I hold close to my heart because of its message. It states that despite my stumbles and shortcomings along the way to my ultimate goal, I’m proud that I lived my life my way and did all the things i wanted to do. It’s the ultimate “pave your own path” song. I’m finally at the end of this long winded post. The Final song is my very favorite because it brings to light that love hate relationship we have with the place we live and the way we go about things. It’s just like how I love New York City. Best city ever, but I really do hate it because it’s such a pain in the ass city to live in sometimes. “A Certain Romance” captures that perfectly.

Peter Lambrou

I think that this project explains a lot about me. First, due to my technological incapability’s and the fact that I did not know how to create the other two assignments I chose the slideshow. The first picture in my slideshow is family. That’s not my family by the way in case you guys see a resemblance. They come above all to me in life. Without them I don’t know where I would be in life and I thank god every day that I have them around. I’ve been blessed with parents that care about me and sacrifice everything just to make me happy and a brother who I am very close with. I really have not lost many people too close to me and I am very fortunate that I have had this type of luck. The next picture in the slideshow is school. It was a tough decision finding the right school, but I am happy that I chose Baruch. It has a great business reputation and its graduates are known to be highly successful. The next picture is the way I picture myself at work after college. The way to put it is dress to impress. I plan to be making deals and keeping it real. And the result of these deals are on the next page which is $$$$$. Making money is the reason why most people work and in my opinion making more money is better than making less money. The fact of making a lot of money and not having to worry about my financial status has always seemed very enticing to me. It’ll take hard work but due to my incredible work ethic, good looks and sharp mind I think I’ll get to a place of economic comfort ability quick after college. The next picture is in regard to my social qualities. I am not THE most social kid around, but I believe that being social and hanging out with friends regularly is very important. A good thing about staying home and commuting is that I get the best of both worlds in that I get to meet and socialize with people at Baruch, while still hanging out with my friends from long Island. The next two pictures are of my two favorite hobbies with fishing unfortunately not making the cut despite all the time I spend on the water. These two hobbies are golf and hockey. I started playing going in high school and fell in love with the game from there. I work at a golf course too and always look at it as getting paid to be around a game that I love. And although people think that golf is a great stress-free way to spend a day, it is not. I have not gotten any angrier than when I was on the golf course. It is the most stressful and aggravating game in the world in my opinion.  My other hobby that I enjoy a great deal is hockey. In a fair way of putting it hockey is my life from October through June. I am a huge Montreal Canadiens fan and I watch every game no matter when or where they are playing. I also play both ice and roller hockey and I plan on playing roller for Baruch this upcoming season. Hockey takes up a huge part of the way I think and I wouldn’t rather have it any other way. And the last picture is just happiness. I feel all of these pictures make me happy and I think that the quality of being happy is important. People who are usually happy are healthy and people who are healthy are happy. Hope you all enjoyed my project.  : ) Peter L

Jeremy Bock’s Awesome Playlist

http://grooveshark.com/playlist/Freshman+Seminar/100923966

This is my playlist

I decided to put a playlist as my post because I’m very into music and as you can tell by my playlist i am into a variety of different genres. Im also the type of person that can’t just sit around doing nothing and pretty much with everything that I’m doing, like working out, doing homework, to reading i need to be listening to music otherwise i can’t concentrate. The first song on my playlist is a personal favorite right now. I start every workout with this song and most people don’t know about it so your welcome. The next song on the playlist is a bit of a throwback song. Its from 2 or 3 years ago and its a great remix of an awesome song that got insanely overplayed when it came out, so this remix is a nice change of pace. In the summer camp i went to they would play this song 24/7 so it brings back some good camp memories. The next song is remix of radioactive by imagine dragons. I listened to imagine dragons non stop my entire senior year and now that I’m sick of most of their songs this remix is also a nice change of pace. So this next song is probably a personal favorite of mine being as that i believe that swedish house mafia was the best house group ever and them splitting up was one of my worst memories of high school (on the bright side I went to one of their last concerts at barclays center which was amazing). Invincible by bourgeois is a great song and i felt like a needed to put in a song sang by a girl so this was a good option. Now onto jay-z who is the man as everyone knows. This song brings me back to when austin powers came out and they made fun of this song in and it and it took me like 2 years after that to realize it was an actual song. Next up is Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover from the show community which is hilarious and everyone should watch it. He’s also a really good rapper and a genius when it comes to making up ridiculous lyrics. Next is a classic song by kid cudi, when he was still good (and evidently still smoking and drinking) called Soundtrack to my life which is very overshadowed by pursuit of happiness(another kid cudi song that is very popular) and i personally think that this song is better. Next is a throwback One republic song called secrets which is just a good song that i thought I would throw on because i like One republic and their old stuff is so much better than their new album. Next is Bleeding Out by imagine dragons which is my favorite imagine dragons song. The last song (yes i put 11) is a song in hebrew that was really popular in Israel the last few years although you guys probably don’t understand the lyrics its still a good song and for me it shows the mix between classic israeli culture and modern culture and how diverse israeli society is.

Eric Zhou

For my junior trip my class went to New England for an overnight whale watching trip.  It was a exactly how it sounded…we watched whales.  It was a four hour boat ride that became way too long and most of us fell asleep after the first hour.  It actually turned out to be a really fun trip that was definitely a great experience.

I just really like this picture.  It looks so artsy.  Some background: It’s an island in Hawaii where they filmed a lot of television shows and movies.  I had to travel to the side of a mountain to see this island, but I think it was worth it because I got this awesome picture.Great Wall of China

That’s the Great Wall of China.  I went to China about three years ago.  It was the most interesting trip I’ve ever been on.  The Great Wall of China is near Beijing which is the capital of China.  The flight from JFK to the Beijing airport took about fourteen hours and it was the longest amount of time I have ever been stuck on an airplane.  When we finally reached China everything was completely different.  For one, they only had Chinese signs, which I can’t read.  By the time we got to the Great Wall of China I had been there for about half a week so I felt like I knew how the country operated, somewhat.  Shanghai

I know I used China again, but before was Beijing and now it’s Shanghai; so it’s different.  I took this picture at one of the tallest buildings in the world; it’s also the tallest building in Shanghai.  Tourists mainly called this building the bottle opener because the top of the building had a square shaped hole in it.  The very tippy top of the building had a sky walk, which was where the “bottle opener” was seen.  The sky walk was crazy because it had a see through floor so you could just be staring down into the city’s rooftops.  Definitely not for the acrophobia.

I have some more pictures to upload but it’s not letting me because apparently my previous pictures took up too much space.   I will post this blog of my first four pictures and post the next pictures later.  Sorry if I’m confusing anyone.
