This picture describes my experience at Baruch this semester. This is because I am always stressed and it seems like there is not a time when I am not. Oddly enough, stress is what keeps me going and pushes me to stay on top of all my assignments and responsibilities. Even though I am stressed, I am pretty excited for the rest of the college years to explore what I can before I have to start working.

After coming to Baruch, I have learned that time management is great tool to being successful because being able to balance school, sports and life is hard but it’s worth it when you plan ahead. Also, after coming here, I have learned that it is going to be hard work. But no matter, how hard it might get, you can get through it. I also have learned that Baruch was the right choice for me after all. In the beginning, I was not so sure if I was going to like it here, but after this semester, I have really come to like Baruch and am glad I chose to come here. It is a place to where there is a balance on getting educated, being a part of extracurricular activities and a place to build lifetime memories with new friends. I have learned a lot about myself over these past couple months.

My favorite memory in the FRO class was the class on academic success strategies. This is because in this class, we discussed the problems that we were all having in the same classes we are taking. We all seemed to have similar problems and it was good figuring out ways to overcome these problems and do better in these classes. It was also one of the only times that we, as a class, were able to work on a project together in groups because majority the time in our classes, even though we are in a block, we were always assigned individual assignments and did not get to know our classmates very well. I thought that it was good that we were able to work together and be able to try to get through our obstacles as freshmen together.

What I look forward to in my next semester are my new classes that I have chose and the schedule I picked out. I also look forward to trying to join a new club next semester. This is because now, I can pick out classes that work to my schedule. I picked classes that are earlier so I can get an easier commute before rush hour and also gives me time to do a lot of my studies before practice. Also, with my times I chose, I can give myself more free time to do other things. Also, I am looking forward to classes that are entering the field of my major like BUS 1000 and LAW 1001. I am excited to start learning about my intended major so I can start trying to get internships.

Jaclyn Thammakhoune’s Monologue

One of the biggest problems that most freshmen have at Baruch is time management. My biggest fear is not having enough time to do everything I want to do. Besides having a full time school schedule, I have basketball practice daily and am a vital part of my friends and families lives. These three things make up whom I am and even though it may seem like a lot, I would not trade it for the world. Right now, I feel like I have control of my college life and I am thankful I have friends and family who are always there to push me forward and pick me up when I fall. After going to all my classes, I head to basketball practice with a group of wonderful ladies that teach me the importance of teamwork on and off the court which then leads me to go home to my parents and friends for moral support.  I have learned that I am not alone when going through all of this. Throughout this beginning of the journey, I have learned a lot. There are sacrifices you must make but it is for what you want. The main thing in college and life is doing what is right for you and what makes you happy, not what someone wants you to do. I have stressed the thought of being able to handle everything but after some time I have learned to work through it and it really is not impossible when you manage your time well. There are so many experiences I will be open to later on in life and I cannot wait for the rest of my college years. I hope to one day grow up to work in the sports management industry and follow my hobby and career.

What I have created speaks to who I am in a way that describes my journey and what makes me thankful for my life.

It all starts in the heart of the biggest city. The idea of social structure and my upbringing in these busy and crowded surroundings makes who I am. Everything I am used to is at your fingertips.

One of my favorite things to do since I was a child is traveling. My mom and I would travel around the world to all different countries and continents to see the world in a whole other perspective. Traveling the world opened my mind as I saw the different cultures surrounding the atmosphere. One important lesson I learned from seeing all these different values were to never take anything for granted. I hope that as I grow up, I can continue this tradition and visit more places.

One of my qualities I have is that in the beginning I am shy. However, as I get to know people and become more comfortable, the shyness goes away.

The backbone to my life is my parents. Being the only child, my parents and I have developed a strong relationship. They are the reason to my success. My parents have always supported me with school, sports and life and I am grateful.

As I started my road to high school knowing no more than five people, I was opened to a whole new beginning. This was a time where I started to grow and learn who I was. Thankfully, I found where I belonged and that was on the basketball court with wonderful ladies who I still call friends today. I learned that I have a passion for sports. There and then was where I learn life long lessons such as confidence, and team work. Life is about your own individual choice but also relates to you work with other people. Those memories are ones I will cherish forever.

At the end of high school, I felt lost and unwilling to move onto the real world. I was very scared of the pressure and start to a whole new beginning. However, by the end of graduation, I was proud of my accomplishments in high school and slowly accepting the fact that college will be a fun experience.

Now, I am starting my time at Baruch and hoping it will guide me in the right direction to success. I cannot be more excited and nervous to start this journey where I will meet life long friends and get the right education.

As of right now, I intend to major in marketing which is the more general aspect but maybe I can major in sports management someday. I hope I do get a job in the sports industry with business aspects in the future. This job is a combination of my hobby and my dream.

So that is all about me, Jaclyn Thammakhoune.
