Music Through Me!
s.mesquita on Sep 15th 2014
Music has always defined me as a person. From when I was in elementary school up until this day, I have always looked to music to express myself in all kinds of ways. This playlist describes the person I am. I am a laid back fun person who always wants to just have a good time. My music ranges from a vast variety of genres depending on the mood I am in and the kind of emotion I am trying to portray. From “bumping” to just embodying the song, I take in everything the music has to offer me. Growing up in New York definitely defines the kind of person I am. I have let all kinds of cultures influence me into figuring out myself. I love taking in people’s energies and figuring out what kind of vivacious outcome it in tales for me. GOOD VIBES is definitely a motto I like to follow after learning so much about New York City cultures. Music has always been my gateway to exciting things in life. I hope it has had the same impact on you as well. I hope you enjoy the playlist!

Who Am I?
k.stluce on Sep 15th 2014
This is a collection of pictures that show who I am. The first picture is of Saint Lucia, which is where I was born. I came here when I was about one year old and I have not been back since. My entire family is from Saint Lucia. I plan to visit Saint Lucia some time next year. The second picture is of the color purple. Purple is my favorite color. My second favorite color is gold. The third picture is of someone shopping because I love to shop. Actually I love fashion and some day I hope to work in the fashion industry related to the business aspects of it. For example, marketing, merchandising, public relations, etc. I do not know exactly what I want to do yet. The fourth picture is of cameras because I like to take pictures. I was once in an advanced photography class in high school. The fifth picture is of vanilla ice cream because I love vanilla ice cream. (I hate chocolate ice cream)The sixth picture is of my piano. I started playing the piano when I was about 8 years old and I stopped going to classes around when I turned sixteen years old. I stopped going to my lessons because I did not have time to go to the them every week. The seventh picture has a sewing machine because I know how to sew. My mom taught me how to sew when I was about 9 years old. Since then I have taken many sewing classes at school and out of school. Also, I owned my own business in high school where I made and sold bows and other hair accessories at school and online. The seventh picture shows some of the accessories that I made. The last picture is of an app called Duolingo that I am using to learn French. (or was using before school started) I want to learn French because most of the adults in my family speak the language and I feel left out when they are speaking it. One day I would like to visit France and be able to fluently speak the language. http://kaylla-victoria.tumblr.com/post/97615929873

I’ve always been an avid sports fan whether its actually playing sports like volleyball or going to basketball games. My brother and I try to go to at least one basketball game a year. The picture I added was of the 2013 christmas day game. The tree at Rockefeller center is also something that my family visits every christmas and has somewhat become a new tradition. Traveling is also a big hobby of mine and this past summer I went to Macedonia for a couple of weeks. My parents have always thought that experiencing other cultures and life styles was very important. Ive always loved traveling especially to countries in Europe. And of course I love food. The best breakfast I believe anyone can have is a bacon egg and cheese.

Here is a slideshow expressing who I am to my classmates. This slideshow didn’t take me very long because I knew exactly where I wanted to go with it. Every picture I added in my slideshow represents a part of my life that I would like to share. First off, supermodel Naomi Campbell. Every since I was a young girl, I wanted to model and looked up to Naomi Campbell. Naomi was scouted at the age 15 which gave me motivation that if I want to do it, go for it. Naomi is a strong and beautiful African American model that I admire. I also used the wonderful and talented Lupita Nyong’o in my slideshow. She represents strength, talent, and inspiration. Lupita grew up as a tomboy and hated the way she looked. I can also relate to that. Now Lupita is called one of the worlds most beautiful women. The images in my slideshow that shows a model and the barbie dolls are also significant. Those images symbolize how much I love the skin I’m in. I am a person who admires when people know their beautiful and strong no matter what. Similar to Naomi Campbell and Lupita Nyong’o. Lastly, the majority of my slideshow, Beyonce Knowles Carter. I have looked up to Beyonce ever since I learned how to write my name. When I first looked at the assignment, I knew I had to add Beyonce. It was only right. Everyone who knows me, also knows how much I love Beyonce. I look up to Beyonce for several reasons, one being she is a very hard worker. Beyonce is motivated, ambitious, courageous, and more! Over the years, Beyonce has become more and more independent as she progresses in her career. Beyonce is truly an inspiration and icon. I know that as I get older, independence will become my best friend. Now being a freshmen in college, the independence is already kicking in. As I progress through college, I will take on more adventures and become more courageous. I wont doubt myself by any means. Beyonce also as an artist, is inspirational. Music is a major part of my life, everything I do I need music. Beyonce makes songs that can make you cry, laugh, and have a good time. Everyone has their own favorite artist or genre of music. In my world, Beyonce is the definition of music.

Below are just some of many song that I listen to everyday for motivation, to cheer me up when I am down, and something to show a little about me.
No Sleep Till Brooklyn, yes that where I’m from. Wiz Khalifa – When I’m Gone, something I listen to when I need to chill out and think about nothing. Led Zeppelin – Stairway To Heaven something I listen to before I am playing sports and need to transition from a relaxed mode to a more aggressive and hyper mood. Pokemon Theme Song, c’mon this is the definition of childhood. The Killers – Mr. Brightside, a solid band that helps me get in a good mood in the morning before taking one of the highest math classes available in Baruch, CSTM 0120. The Show by Lenka its from the Movie Moneyball when the little girl sings the song at the end. Matisyahu a regge Rabbi, from my home town in Jerusalem has plenty of good songs one in particular is One Day. Chemical Romance – “Welcome to the Black Parade”… alarm clock in morning. Queen bohemian rhapsody when I’m feeling really stupid and need to kill 8 minutes.
Honorable mentions; Mister Softee Song , Kings Of Leon – Use Somebody,Shinedown- second chance.

Music PLaylist

I picked the ten song playlist because i enjoy music and couldn’t find a better way to express myself in this assignment. I picked my songs to reference periods of my life are aspects of my personality which should help people understand me if they listen to the songs. I picked the “Audience of One” by Rise Against because I liked the pleasant theme in spite of the sad lyrics which talked about someone who had great friends but they left each other over time. My friends and I are still pretty close but we don’t hang out as much with college being a bit overbearing. I picked “Sail” because of the steady tempo and the nice beat which i feel is very calm yet intense and suits me well at times. Another of the songs I picked was “Trees”by Twenty One Pilots which is a song about someone who is shy which keeps them them communicating with others especially with the person they like. I have never been known as an extroverted person though I’ve gotten better an I really relate to this song more than any other: my phone even says its my most played song.
- Eminem- “‘Till I Collapse”
- Rise Against- “Rise Against”
- 10 Years- “Wasteland”
- Bastille- “Overjoyed’
- Bastille- “Things We Lost in the Fire”
- Twenty One Pilots- “Migraine”
- Allele- “Stitches”
- Twenty One Pilots- “Trees”
- Fall Out Boy- “Young Volcanoes”
- Awolnation- “Sail”

Who I am Through Photos

This is just a small, simple glimpse into my very complex life. I started off with a picture of me with shoe designer Manolo Blahnik. Manolo Blahnik is a major fashion icon, and I was so fortunate to have had the pleasure of meeting him and discussing his shoe line. I’ve been obsessed with fashion from an early age. Since I do not have any visual artistic ability, I utilize fashion and makeup to express my artistic side. I added a photo of me and my friends at senior prom. I have always been a very social, talkative person. The third picture is of me driving a boat in Newport, Rhode Island. I believe I am a very adventurous person. I like to go out there and experience it all. I am never scared of trying new things. I love embracing new cultures, getting out of my comfort zone, and traveling all over the world. The next two photos describe the performing side of me. I have been dancing since I was seven years old and still dance today. Dancing is one of my favorite hobbies, and it is another way of expressing myself artistically. Acting is another of my favorite hobbies. Although I haven’t done it as long as dancing, it is still a huge part of my life. In high school I was part of the most amazing drama club that became a second home for me and my fellow actors and stage crew members were a second family. Next is a picture of my job on Christmas Eve. I am a hard worker who does what it takes to get things done. Every major holiday I give up time with my family and deal with huge crowds from seven in the morning to late evenings. On the other hand one of my not-so-positive qualities is my lack of patience. That brings me to my next picture. I am a little short-tempered at times and can get annoyed easily. Last but not least, I believe I am an overall nice person. I always do what I can to help out. I have been donating blood for two years and gladly will keep doing it. Well, that’s me! 🙂

My Life in Photos

It took a long time to decide which photos to use for this – probably way too long. I find it difficult to describe myself without using just words, but here it goes. The first photos I was sure I was going to pick were the instrument photos – a photo of a guitar, and a photo of a piano. I’ve been playing both instruments since a very young age, and even though I’m not exceptional at either of them, it’s my favorite hobby. My love for music eventually turned into a love for songwriting, and eventually, novel writing, which is why I added a photo of a pen and paper. I often write novels just for fun. Sometimes, I include characters slightly based off of real people that either fascinated me or annoyed me. Essentially, I’m the Taylor Swift of novel writing. I also chose a photo of my favorite Broadway theater, the Circle in the Square. I saw one of my first Broadway shows there and I love it to pieces. I think it is absolutely gorgeous, and I could probably live in there. To go with my love of Broadway, I included a photo I took of the city from a ferry ride. New York City isn’t as amazing as everyone says – it’s mostly just a crowded place that reeks of hot garbage and urine, but it’s my crowded place that reeks of hot garbage and urine. I don’t think I could live anywhere else. I also added a photo of a green wristband that you will definitely see me wearing on a daily basis. I have worn it almost everyday since age fifteen. It reads, “This star won’t go out,” which is the name of a charity that helps families of children struggling with pediatric cancer. It was originally founded by the family of Esther Earl, a teen that passed from cancer, and it is a cause that is extremely close to my heart. Lastly, I added a photo of my dog, because I’m a total dog person and I like my dog more than most people. I will willingly argue with anyone that says pit bulls are vicious.
Upon looking over these photos, I think a sentence that perfectly describes me is, “Odd music-loving dog lady,” and I am perfectly okay with that.

my life through pictures

Someone once said “a pictures worth a thousand words,” and I have to admit I couldn’t agree more. Looking through my pictures on my phone and computer I found a few pictures that I believe describes who I am.
The first two pictures I posted are both my original paintings. I love painting! I have had a passion for art for as long as I can remember. If I am ever stressed or bored I always start drawing. For me drawing is an escape, a way to clear my mind. The next picture I posted is of my sister and I. My family and I are very close, we do everything together. My family is the most important thing in my life. I posted a picture of an Israel flag because I am jewish and was raised Jewish. My religion is very important to me and is a big part of who I am today. The next 3 pictures are pictures from my travels. I love traveling! seeing new things, meeting new people, and learning about new cultures excite me. The third picture is of me on a camel. This past summer I went on my first camel ride, and I have to say it was one of the coolest experiences. I am always in for an adventure.
The next picture is a picture of the B train. I live in Brooklyn and like many of the students at Baruch I do commute. The last two pictures show my love for reading, and my love of fashion. I have an obsession with clothes. Surprise surprise I work at a clothing store. I personally stalked this past fashion week.

The pieces of me

Who am I? At first this assignment seemed daunting. Truthfully I don’t think many of us know who we are. However, as I looked through the images on my phone I began to get a picture of who I am. The first picture I posted depicts the expressive side of me.I began playing the piano at the age of six and it is truly a part of who I am. Playing the piano allows me to express my feelings through music and is a fun way to help me unwind from the many stresses of life. Other ways I love to express myself is through hair styling and cooking. Next there is the empathetic side of me. The side that is able to understand another’s joy or sorrow and to feel as though I am experiencing it with them. This past year I was able to participate in a program called Witness Theater. Every wednesday I had the opportunity to meet with Holocaust survivors and listen to their stories. At the end of the year I performed a production about the survivor’s lives. This did not only impact the way I view the world. I also felt I’d experienced what the survivors had and felt a responsibility to share their stories with others. I’ve also been an active participant in community service organizations. (I posted pictures of me at the senior mentor program and with a cerebral palsy patient whom I’ve visited.) You’re probably wondering about the other two pictures I’ve posted. This is the side of me that loves to have fun and loves adventure. In high school I was the “party planner.” I would throw themed parties every week during class to celebrate what we were learning and make it enjoyable. I am also the first person you’d find bungee jumping, at the shooting range, or hijinking a friend. These are the many pieces of Chana Sitt.
