I believe these songs describe who I am. They talk about falling down and getting back up. No matter the circumstance. Instead of sitting and focusing on what happened it is best to get back up and keep moving with life. When things get tough and hard to deal with, I don’t sit and do nothing about it. I use those failures and bad times to propel myself forward. I use my failures in life as motivation to do better.
- Over my Head, The Fray
- Speed of Sound, Coldplay
- Bruises, Train
- Open Your Eyes, Snow Patrol
- What About Now, Daughtry
- 100 Years, Five for Fighting
- Better Days, The Goo Goo Dolls
- Show me What I’m Looking For, Carolina Liar
- Move Along, All American Rejects

The first song I chose is Over my Head by the Fray. In the first few lines it talks about things everything coming down which is how we all feel at times but then it turns out he just in over his head. The next song is Speed of Sound by Coldplay. This song shows how we always keep climbing. Bruises by Train talks about our imperfections that make us who we are. Open Your Eyes by Snow Patrol shows that you don’t have to go through the tough times alone. The next song is what about now by Daughtry. This song shows us to not forget about what’s happening right before our eyes. The sixth song I chose is 100 years by Five for Fighting. This song reminds us that we have a limited amount of time in life and we have to make the most of it. The seventh song I picked was Better days by the goo goo dolls. This song reminds us that we could always start over with a fresh start. Show me what im looking for is just a song I like to listen to never put much thought into the lyrics. Move along is probably one of my favorite songs because the lyrics which talk about not focusing on the bad things but getting up and moving on, and the music. The last song is a classic Go the Distance from Hercules, which sums it all up that nothing can be achieved without putting in effort.

I love that outlook on life, and I think that failures are just setbacks and that you have to always keep going. I hope that in your time at Baruch you use these songs to motivate you if things get a little challenging. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Daniel,
I am familiar with many of the artists you mentioned (Finally!!). Definitely tough times are not forever and it’s always important to keep our heads up and focus on better days.
Best,
