Monologue

Choosing a college was more than just a decision. Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Princeton, St. Johns, Molloy, Baruch, Fordham. Name after name, letter after letter they come. There were so many to choose from. Names I have never heard of, to names that were familiar. Each letter sent all beginning similar: “ Dear Rachele.” Then they began to tell me all that they can offer. Using adjectives such as extraordinary and unique to describe their college or university. They tell me I can be the best that I can be by attending their school and sending that yearly tuition money. Some miles and miles away, others around the corner. So why you ask did I choose Baruch? Or how my friends from home pronounce it, “Barooch”. It’s because you love bearcats! said my neighbors’ son. But, if that was the case I could’ve went to Binghamton. I guess at the time I was a little perplexed. But I promise you, being here now I realized it was a decision I wouldn’t regret. This school is dynamic in its own ways. Through the people I’ve met, the location I have come to love and the opportunities at Baruch, I understand now why it’s the renowned college it is today. Its only my freshman year so I imagine it gets harder. But after the four or five years I’m here I believe I’ll still be proud to call it my alma mater.
