Blog Post #2

For the Student Life Enrichment Workshop section, I attended the Club Fair last Thursday. The Club Fair was held in the gymnasium which consisted majority of the available clubs at Baruch. Once I walked into the the gym,  I was overwhelmed with the variety of clubs that were present. Walking through the maze of people, it was difficult trying to navigate my way around because the overall outcome of students attending the fair was humongous. The atmosphere of the fair was very inviting because many recruiters encouraged me to join their club and explained what their was about though I wasn’t interested in their clubs. Initially, I was looking for a club related to Pre-Med or the medical field since that’s what I’m majoring in, but I couldn’t find anything. Although I couldn’t find the club I was particularly interested, I did join a lot of great clubs like Phi Eta Sigma, MSA, Alpha Iota Delta, and etc. Overall, the experience was quite refreshing and I hope to join more clubs as I continue my academic career at Baruch.

Blog Post #2 – V.A.R.K Quiz

VARK

Today I completed the “Vark Quiz.” The questionnaire provided me with more information about my learning preferences. There were 16 questions consisting of four choices, and to my knowledge, that had no wrong answers and that profiled you on the type of learner you were, In the quiz, I scored a 6 on visual, 12 on aural, 9 on reading/writing, and 15 on kinesthetic. Through those scores, I was classified as a multimodal learner, who is “keen to learn with several modes switched on to assist my learning, and I do require a long time to collect all of the information that I require to learn a new task or take on new skills.” Through this quiz, I was able to see the type of learner that I am and hopefully, feel I can now look back and recognise different learning styles at different times in my life.

Career Post – Career Fair

Hello Everyone!

This past Friday, October 2nd, I decided to check out the Career Fair. It was raining heavily but I still decided to get up out of bed on my day off and go through my hour and fifteen minute commute to see what it was all about. As a Freshman it was very intimidating for me to see all of these people in business suits, parading around with their resumes in hand. I mean, for an instant, I was one of them but they all seemed so much more experienced than I was. Most importantly, the employers seemed a bit intimidating as well. I walked up to each table and introduced myself and everyone was shocked that I was a Freshman already looking into a career. This event opened a lot of networking opportunities for me and I also applied for a few retail positions. My overall review of this event: intimidating but worthwhile.

Student Life: Club Fair

To be honest, The club fair felt rather underwhelming. It was held at the main gym and supposedly all the clubs were supposed to be there. You see frats, “enter race or religion here ” Club, “Enter business major” club. I was primarily looking for the archery and Absolute Adrenaline club. I did find other clubs I am interested in so it isn’t all in vain.
