Blog Post #2: Homecoming

Snapchat-3164235113496003171 Last Thursday I went to Baruch’s own homecoming party, and as you can see the food was great! Although they had a mountain of lettuce, and a microgram of delicious macaroni, the food was still very nice! Inside of the building, they separated people 21 and over from the younger students in two rooms so they could drink, but both rooms still played the same music, which was mostly country music and Iggy Azalea. They also had free pumpkins, to wring out the Halloween spirit. Outside of the party, they played Hocus Pocus, a horror comedy movie in the plaza; you can see it in the picture as I’m standing behind the screen. For drinks, they had coffee and hot chocolate machines right outside the party. Also on the outside was a delicious popcorn machine. The most amazing feature of the party however, was the line to get in. I had arrived about an hour after the party started, since it’s good manners to be fashionably late, and the line was around 300 miles long. Even though there were around 100 people in the line, the actual party room was kind of empty, and once you left the party for any reason, you had to stand in the line again to get in. The only reason I had left was because I didn’t want to be the first person in history to Milly Rock to country music.

Blog Post #2 Club Fair

WBMB Studios

On Thursday October 1st 2015 I visited the club fair that took place during club hours, I showed up at the fair around 12:30. My original plan was not to show up at the club fair, but rather to play basketball, but when I arrived at the main gym I found the fair. As soon as I entered I encountered a young man who I had met earlier in the week in the locker room after playing basketball.  He was able to convince me to sign up for his club,  which was created for  young upcoming business majors. After that I walked around, learned about and signed up with several clubs including the WBMB Radio Station, which I later visited to record music. The audio recording room in the WBMB Radio Station is actually the place where I took the picture attached to this this post. Going to the club fair was a positive experience that has provided me with the opportunity to join clubs that will benefit me, and help me get more involved in Baruch.

Mastering the Job Interview

Last week I attended a workshop that was aimed to help its participants master the job interviewing process. This workshop was an advanced course and due to scheduling many were not able to participate in the preceding course “Mastering the Job Interview: Basic”. The instructor however made the workshop easy to understand whether you attended a previous course or not. While he had a Power Point presentation and gave out packets with more information, he also gave in depth details about what he was talking about and gave personal examples to further explain his point. The information he gave in his presentation was very helpful, and certain things were actually quite surprising. Overall,I am grateful that I attended and will definitely use this information to succeed in any job or internship interviews I may have in the future.

Blogpost #2: Career Fair

On Friday, October 2nd, I attended the Career Fair. First of all, I was not used to being on Baruch’s campus all day on a Friday, so that was strange. Not to mention, there were only a handful of freshmen who attended the Career Fair, me, Sabrina, and Deborah being the only ones in our block in attendance. As soon as I got to Baruch, I immediately noticed everyone was dressed to the nines in professional attire. So was I, but I just felt like I did not fit in. After spending 2 hours perfecting my resume in the library and printing out 10 copies, I finally got to the Career Fair. Right off the bat, I made the choice to not hold myself back and not be shy. I reminded myself I took the initiative, I was already there, so what did I have to lose? I went to almost every table in the 2 hours that I was there and talked and networked with all the business professionals and even ordinary salesmen. It surprised me how open and understanding some people were and how willing they were to answer all the questions I had. Others, on the other hand, for example Bloomberg, essentially laughed in my face for even considering coming to their table because they only accept applications from rising seniors. I was told I was ambitious for a freshman which was nice to hear. I even realized that I might want to go into the Peace Corps after graduation and I wouldn’t have figured that out if I hadn’t had a long conversation with the Peace Corps representative. Going to the Career Fair as a freshman opened my eyes to how many opportunities Baruch has for me in the future. I already put my email down and gave my resumes to various companies as well as held conversations with the representatives and exchanged contact information with them, so at least I know I left some kind of a lasting impression on them. It was intimidating, at first, but once you accepted the fact that everybody there is older and more qualified than you are, it is great. I am honestly so glad I went to the Career Fair as part of the Career Workshops.

Blog Post 2: Club Fair

Club fair

For my student life activity, I decided to go to the club fair on October 1st.  I went to check out the clubs that Baruch had to offer.  There was a variety of clubs that Baruch students could get involved in.  There were many types of clubs; like fraternities, music club, business clubs, and many cultural clubs.  I ended up signing up to get more information for many clubs like the Hong Kong Club, United Chinese Language Association, Finance Leaders, and Math Club.  The club fair was a great event because it gave a chance for all the clubs of Baruch to show their great qualities.  I attended the club fair hoping to join some clubs.  I think joining clubs are important to meet new people.  Joining clubs helps students make new friends and make connections.  I think the club fair helped me join some clubs and that will help me make connections.

Blog Post #2: Student Life

For the Student Life Enrichment Workshop, I attended the Club Fair on October 1. Once I walked in to the main gym, music was blasting and there was an assemblage of people everywhere. Although Baruch has over 160+ clubs, not all of the clubs were there. I was strolling down the club fair, checking out each club one by one to see which one interests me along with my friends. I put down my contact information for Phi Eta Sigma, Student Government, and VSA since these clubs interest me thusfar. VSA is a lot of fun;they always joke around and shouts “VSA ALL DAY.” I plan tog et involved by joining clubs to get more involved. I can meet new friends and find people with the same common interests. After I was down checking out the clubs, I went to the UCLA table and helped out. UCLA was the first club I joined since I was introduced to it during convocation. I was recruiting new members to UCLA and taking pictures with the instagram board.2015-10-06 00.09.55

Club Fair- Blog Post #2

Blog post 2

The Baruch Club Fair presents my Student Life objective. The fair showed many different clubs and organization that one can get involved with. I ended up signing up for four clubs; United Chinese Language Association, Math Society, Korea Campus Crusade for Christ and the Hong Kong Club.  It was impressive how diverse our student body is. Moreover, the fair gives new students the opportunity to get involved with something they support or even find interest in. Individuals are given a chance to be a part of something bigger than just going home and wasting a perfectly good day. It’s a place of fun and new interactions, which I would recommend to anyone.

Club Fair

For my Student Life event, I chose to go to the club fair. The fair had a ton of different clubs, and was a very engaging experience with all the members of different clubs trying to get you to join them. I saw many different clubs, though a lot of them did not interest me as much as others. One of the clubs I signed up for was the e-sports club because I love playing games and thought it was crazy that there was a club for almost everything that you could think of. With Michael, we went around different clubs and wrote down our contact information on the clubs that interested us. I believe that club life is important because it gives opportunities to students who have a hard time meeting people, and are able to meet new people with the same interests. Hopefully, by joining clubs I will be able to meet people who can expand my interests on certain topics and allow me to create connections that would not have been possible without the help of clubs.

For the Student Life Category, I chose my experience at the Club Fair that took place on October 2nd. This was a great event that displayed many of the college’s clubs and offered to students the opportunity to learn more about the groups and join. I recognize how important it is for college students to take their minds off work and relax, whether that is kicking back and getting some  sleep or hanging out with friends and participating in some engaging activity. Clubs provide the much needed break and succeed in engaging students with a common interest. The club fair showed me the diverse community of Baruch and the array of interests that exist within the student body. It truly has a place for everyone and that pushed me to consider new and help expand old interests. It was a fun event with entertaining activities and overall worthwhile.

The Club Fair – Blog Post #2

IMG_01252When I was choosing the right college Baruch boasted about its 160+ clubs on its website and I knew one oft hem had to be right for me. The club fair on October 1st marked the beginning of a new month and the beginning of my involvement at Baruch. Though the club fair did not have all 160 clubs, there were myriad of different clubs ranging from The Wall Street club to a League of Legends club. As I walked around the gym, I admit that I was not especially drawn to any particular club, however I still signed up for the Muslim Student Association and Phi Eta Sigma. I look forward to attend meetings and events for these clubs, meet new people and become more involved. The buzz of excitement from freshman, free candy and ton of clubs made the club fair a worthwhile experience.
